  • im having this tomorrow at royal London hospital tomorow :/

  • is it possible to go to the swimming pool after having septal surgery

  • @jackrusse1947 Hello,

I would recommend refraining from swimming for at least 4 weeks, as strenuous activity may increase swelling and delay your healing time. If you are in the pool without going underwater or exerting yourself, it is ok after 2 weeks. Be sure to wear sunscreen on your nose if you are outdoors. Thank you for the message.

  • I have deviated septum but I think its genetic because two of my uncles also have this issue. My question is: could excessive bleeding in the brain occur if septoplasty is performed, if God forbid it does, what are the consequences?

    Thanks

    Mehru

  • @mehru2011 Hello,

When performed properly by a highly skilled surgeon, this is highly unlikely. Please feel free to contact my office any time and we would be happy to schedule you for a consult.

  • are there serious effects if deviated septum is not treated?

  • I like the fact you reply to people's comment seeking advice as recent as last week, despite the fact that this video is posted in 2009. Thank You good doctor.

  • is it possible that it is a mid vault collapse, the problem goes away when i flare my nostrils and pull up on the nose, another way that i get relief (and the problem is gone) is to again flair my nostrils and then using my left index finger push TOWARD the indentation on my nose which makes the left lateral wall of the nose sit on top of the septum more, does this sound like something you have come across, if so whats the probable cause and wut type of procedure should i go for , ty 4 ur time

  • hello dr nassif, quik question, i am having a hard time figuring out wuts wrong with my nose , i have been able to eliminate the sinuses or nasal polyps as the cause of my congestion(surgery has fixed that) also have been to doctors who have looked INTERNALLY with a camera (which i viewed as well) and have said "they dont see wuts wrong" the problem is i feel a contact point on the left side of the nose , at the same spot where i have an indentation that looks like a mid vault collapse

  • Oh god...RHEY HAMMERED HER NOSE!!!

  • when you do that to a patient .. do you give it sleeping gas so that he wont feel pain until he is awake???

  • @TheMutedVid its anesthesia , aka sleep gas and no way in hell would any body want to be awake during that

  • i had this surgery for the second time about 6 days ago after the first one failed, its horrible, i hate it, however after your nose is "vacuumed" you will fell profoundly better.

  • Hello I have surgery for a deviated septum about 10 days ago and i am doing ok but can you please tell me if it is healing properly as the left nostril seem to have heal but the right nostril is still sore to touch but there is like a red spot or lump near the septum at back which isn't really painful but was wondering if it infected or whether it will be better in the next few weeks don't have a follow up appointment to early january. how long will the stuffness last as it still there thanks

  • @chris10656 Hello,

It would be best to have an appointment with your surgeon, as he/she knows the extent of your surgery and exactly what was performed. Congestion should improve within two weeks. It sometimes takes longer depending on the patient. Thank you, and I hope this helps.

    Dr. Nassif

  • Good Afternoon, I was just told by my ENT i have a deviated septum, Which i will be having surgery to fix. What is the cause? Is it something you are born with or Does a injury to the face cause it? I had major face damage due to a tornado when i was 9, Now 44. Wondering if it just got worse as time went by... Thank Tou for your time. PS Wishing i lived in Beverly Hills i would love for you to be doing my surgery.

  • @Kmorgan8808

    Hello,

A deviated septum can be genetic or a result of trauma to the nose. It is difficult to determine the exact cause without additional information and performing an exam. Thank you for the kind words, and I wish you the best of luck with your procedure.

    Dr. Nassif

  • Your wife is awesome so down to earth. How would I know If i neaded this syrgery

    ? Ur cure

  • Hi, I am going to the surgery in a few days and can't wait to breath normally again. My only concern are blood clots forming. Should this even be a concern of mine at all? I have high blood pressure as well.

  • I had septoplasty done exactly 2 months ago. I have alot of stuffynuss which comes n goes. Deviated side is alot better but the other side get blocked at times but overall i am happy. I have a problem with my eyes tho..they constantly feel tired and tight and swollen and have huge bags. PLEASE tell me this goes away?

  • @cassielangelus Hello,

I would recommend speaking with your surgeon regarding any post-operative concerns, as he/she knows the extent of your surgery and exactly what was performed. Thank you for the question, and best of luck to you.

    Dr. Nassif

  • @drpaulnassif How much does this surgery cost?

  • @OSWNOSWNOSWN Hello,

Septoplasty alone can range from $5,000-$8,000. Thank you for the message, and please feel free to contact my office any time.

  • My nose changes the nostril that it allows me to breath from. Is this normal, or should it be corrected? I don't have allergies.

  • @Avensadora

    Hello,

Correcting a deviated septum or pinched nostrils can greatly enhance breathing. Thank you, and please feel free to ask me any specific questions about the surgery.

    Dr. Nassif

  • OMG, Is that what they have done to me yesterday, I was so scared when I saw the operating room and the doctors, the only thing I remember is this female doctor talking to me and then she put that mask on my mouth, after that I woke up in another room feeling all kind of pain in my nose, thank god they let me go home today.

  • im a male 16 years of age i was told i have a deviated septum by are ears nose throut people. but the thing is it fells as if i had a sinus infection for over a year now. ive had orange liquid drain out of my nose at times ive also blew out a huge white think snot and i still have this kinda snot today its seems really sticky and i just know theres alot of it stuck up my nose. Ive Takeing a CAT scan and they said nothing was backed up there im not understand...

  • @23099ty

    Hello,

A deviated septum can cause repeated sinus infections. I would really need to perform an examination to provide you with the best advice. Please feel free to contact my office any time. Thank you very much for the message.

    Dr. Nassif

  • My 14 yr. old son was just scheduled for a septoplasty for Nov. 1st. Both he and I are nervous wrecks. He was supposed to start wrestling in 2 weeks. But now I don't want him to with just having the surgery. What are your recommendations or do you have any tips for me to help him recover? Thank you!

  • @AprilLAOhio

    Hello,

I would recommend avoiding any strenuous activity for 4-5 weeks following surgery. If there is any cosmetic work performed, I would recommend refraining from participation in a contact sport such as wrestling where there is risk of injury to the nose for at least 6 months. Thank you and I hope this helps.

    Dr. Nassif

  • i had a septoplasty a week ago and in my case i had a very straight and nice nose but from underneath you could clearly see the middle bit of my nose curve making my right nostril significantly smaller, restricting air supply probably up to 70% though i never had any problems with it, i did it mainly for cosmetic reasons seeing as it was noticeable when i smile the skin on my septum sort off rolls and is a little more red than the rest so yea it was quite noticeable. insurance paid for it...

  • Ugh I have a deviated septum i want to get this done but I hear you can go blind. I'm only 15...

  • @Linokid666

    Hello,

This would not happen following surgery. Please feel free to view my video on YouTube titled "Safety and Risks of Nose Surgery," which will provide you with answers to any questions you have regarding the risks of surgery. The minimum recommended age to have rhinoplasty performed is 15 years of age for girls and 16 for boys. Please feel free to ask me any specific questions about the surgery and I would be happy to answer them for you. Thank you and I hope this helps.

  • Will my insurance cover any or part of the septoplasty if the ENT specialist deems it a 'medically necessary' procedure; e.g.: improving my breathing? What if my ENT recommends a 'rhinoplasty' combined with the septoplasty for necessary medical reasons? Is the rhinoplasty though then still considered 'cosmetic' ?

    Thank you for any advice.

  • @Mish1035

    Hello,

It depends on your insurance company. They will likely cover some or all of the functional portion of the surgery. Certain cosmetic modifications may be included in the coverage, as they may be necessary to help establish functional equilibrium. Thank you and I hope this helps.

    Dr. Nassif

  • i actually got this done and didnt pay a damn penny... i have medical card n it covered for the surgery i got. now my surgery wasnt cosmetic i had a nasal fracture and they just put ma bone bak into place but i was told that if i didnt have the medical card i would have to pay $7.500....

  • Hey I got a question. I'm only 14 and I'm going to have this done soon the doctor said it was rare for me to have it at that age what are the risks?

  • I had this surgery 1 week ago plus sinus removal and turinates reduction...wonderful.

  • To the docor that uploaded this video, what is your position on smoking marijuana daily after a deviated septum is repaired and polyps removed? Making sure no smoke effects the nose, breathing in through nose and mouth, out through mouth and then a deep breath (or two) in through the nose and out through the mouth.

    any feedback helps. thanks

  • @NerdRageTruckers

    Hello,

You will want to avoid smoking of any kind for at least 6 weeks before and 6 weeks after surgery. In general, you should limit the amount of smoking you do, especially during the healing process. Thank you for the question.

    Dr. Nassif

  • Comment removed

  • @drpaulnassif now, is that because of the smoke? or because of the way the pot effects your blood? I'm extra careful to not breathe smoke through my nose.

    thanks!

  • Dr Nassif, i am told by the doctor that i have DNS and it needs a surgery .Apart from that my nose fells and is swollen .i have lost my natural outer shape .now my question is Will i retain my orginal shape by doing a septoplasty.or will it need additional surgery for that .ie rhinoplasty etc..

    hope you reply

  • @tahamys Hello,

A septoplasty alone will not change the appearance of your nose. A procedure called a septorhinoplasty is often performed, where your surgeon may address any structural and functional issues that are present with your nose. The type of procedure necessary would depend on your individual circumstances. Thank you and I hope this helps.

    Dr. Nassif

  • @werbelloff

i am serious. I finally got my rods out of my face. The doctor takes out the rods which I found out were Pins. like the sharp skinny pins. They unscrew it with a scirossor half clip.and they unscrew the pins out of your face. you can be numbed up or you can have it with out medicine.

  • How much does this procedure coast? I have a huge wide nose I would Like to get contoured. slightly narrow it nothing to drastic? please help. People refer to my nose as a bell pepper.

  • @Jahmere113 Hello. Cost for a primary rhinoplasty ranges from $7000-$13,000 depending on your individual circumstances. Please feel free to send any photos to my office and I would be happy to evaluate them for you. Thank you for the question.

    Dr. Nassif

  • @werbelloff

i am very serious. The needle is as big as a medium needle.

  • @werbelloff

I am very Serious. i get my rods taken out july 5,2011. they are not huge rods they are as big a medium size needle.

  • @werbelloff

Your asleep so you don't feel anything. But what they don't tell you is. The doctor drills four rods in your face so your rib bones can fuse together. they drill two rods between your eyes vertically and they drill two rods above your upper gums. eating hurts like hell. you have to take pain killers an hour before you eat.

  • @werbelloff had this op done last year best thing ive ever done does not really hurt worst bit is when pacts are removed

  • had this op done last year best thing ive ever done

  • hi i just had septoplasty yesterday and i have tried to do nasal douche but when i try to do it on the right side of my nose it doesnt go in. is that a bad sign or it is meant to be blocked for few days because left side of my nose is clear and bleeding abit while right side is totally blocked please help :)

  • @TimothyPreap Hello,

A septoplasty will help open your airway and may help correct a nasal voice, but it really depends on your individual circumstances. A septoplasty ranges from $4000-$8000 depending on your individual needs. Thank you, and I hope this helps.

    Dr. Nassif

  • i just got this done last monday. june 6,2011

2 yearsa ago i had a terrible accident with my bike

i felt in the ground with my face and i lost feelings

can u help me doctor :(

  • @AnarchynewRepublic Hello,

Please feel free to send any photos to my office and I would be happy to evaluate them for you. You may also call the office to schedule a consultation any time. It is likely the issues you are experiencing are due to the trauma to your nose. Thank you, and I hope this helps.

    Dr. Nassif

  • @drpaulnassif well since i live soo far from your office i cant

you where very helpful and i kinda know that the trauma caused all of this

im a kind of doctor too :P

    thank you doc

  • Will this change the shape of my nose a lot? I just want to breathe better but not end up with an ugly nose. Will it make my nose fatter?

  • @sj1605 A septoplasty will not result in your nose appearing fatter. At the beginning, your nose may appear larger due to swelling, but the swelling will go down over time and the final result is then evident. In some cases, grafts may be placed inside a nose that was initially "pinched" to help improve breathing, and this may result in your nose having a slightly wider appearance. Thank you for the question.

  • I just had this surgery for the second time on Tuesday. It settled wrong the first time, and it "green stick fractured" as the doctor called it. But it is very painful, but once the bleeding stops it is tolerable!

  • Do you have a lot of swelling and pain after the presedure???

  • @Pitbuller956 Pain following surgeon is minimal, and painkillers are prescribed for any discomfort you may experience. You will be congested following surgery, which will improve after the first week and usually resolve after two weeks. Thank you, and I hope this helps.

    Dr. Nassif

  • @drpaulnassif Hi Dr Nassif. I have a very crooked nose and I am going to have a septoplasty soon. I am wondering, will the septoplasty make my nose straight?

  • @talo757 Hello,

The septoplasty will help your nose appear straighter. Depending on your individual circumstances, it may be necessary to perform a septorhinoplasty. Your surgeon will be able to provide you with the best advice. Please feel free to ask me any additional questions regarding the surgery. Thank you, and I hope this helps.

    Dr. Nassif

  • @drpaulnassif Hello, Dr and thank you for your answer. I just had my septoplasty. But I am wondering, If I want to do a cosmetic rhinoplasty , how long do I have to wait before getting the surgery?

  • @talo757 Hello,

The septoplasty will help your nose appear straighter. Depending on your individual circumstances, it may be necessary to perform a septorhinoplasty. Your surgeon will be able to provide you with the best advice. Please feel free to ask me any additional questions regarding the surgery. Thank you, and I hope this helps.

    Dr. Nassif

  • @TimothyPreap A septoplasty will greatly improve your breathing, and will likely help with a nasal voice. A septoplasty alone will range in price from $4000-$7000 depending on your individual circumstances. Thank you, and I hope this helps.

    Dr. Nassif

  • this is absolutely barbaric.

  • how much is the septoplasty?

  • @ShesAJoker2k8 Hello,

Septoplasty ranges in price from $4,000-$8,000 depending on your individual circumstances. Your insurance may cover some or all of this cost depending on the company. Thank you for the question.

  • So i am going to see a plastic surgen cause of the problems I have, I am trying to accomplish getting my sinus taking care off and taking that peace of cartilage that he put in there to keep my nose straight, So My question is they you think I need Rhinoplasty? Because once they remove that cartilage it will be a dent in that spot because my doctor told me that before I was going to take it out, so i didn't do it at the time, but now I really need to take care of this.

  • @BewarA714 Hello,

It is difficult to predict the outcome of how you will respond to the removal of cartilage as you describe. Please discuss any of these concerns with your surgeon. In the future, please feel free to contact me with photos or schedule a consultation with my office and I would be happy to provide you with advice. Thank you for the message.

    Dr. Nassif

  • @drpaulnassif I have not done anything yet to my nose. My problem is getting worse and every time i go see my emt doc. we would put me on drugs/spray so i turn that down. I told him thats all you seem to be doing is giving me drugs that is not helping me at all. So I told him i"ll pay for the surgery, I cant deal woth this problem anymore. His respond was no i will not doing anything to your nose, am not gonna touch it. I dont know why he said that. Any how I got a Septoplasty done a year ago...

  • @drpaulnassif for the same reason as you are doing here in this video..cant breath, cant sleep etc.. Ever since the surgery its been very difficult. I cant breath thro one my my nose hole, its either the left or right one everyday its like that. its switches very unconformable for me. The cartilage hurts me sometimes so I have to put press on it. Also sometimes I have to put press right in between my eye near the nasal bone, for the same reason. I've told all these to my surgeon but no answer

  • I had this surgery done Septoplasty to Correct a Deviated Septum. Its been a year now I still have trouble breathing, I cant sleep at night that good, My nose still hurts when I blow it, even if i sneeze. So my doctor put some cartilage in the middle of my nose to keep my nose straight when he perform the surgery. Now My nose is getting worse with that cartilage being there its like a big lump there, when i touch t it fucken hurt and I have very bad sinus affection.

  • I had septoplasty done last week. Doesn't hurt at all, it's just completely uncomfortable. While wearing stuffing in your nose you most probably won't be able to sleep at night, and remember to have water or some liquids by your side because your mouth get dry really quick because you have to breathe through them all the time. It's been 2 days since they removed my stuffing and everything's fine now except there is some dry blood left.

  • how much you have to spend tha money ?

  • Everyone has a deviated sectum

  • whats with her eyes?

  • I'm nervous about having this surgery but i need it done.

  • Im going to get this surgery this upcomming summer and I have a few questions. First off, I have a deviated septum and my nose physically looks a bit deviated- will there by any significant physical changes to my nose? Also, how painful are the post-surgery recovery days and about how many days of severe pain/swelling does recovery consist of? How will it effect my daily activities, such as eating, driving, school, sleeping, etc. Thank you so much for your time.

  • i had Septal Deviations/Turbinate Hypertrophy repair 1 year ago. now when i breath up one nasal canal closes more then the other nasal canal? is this because the deviation is still there or the turbinate was not completely removed on the side that does not closes completely??

  • @GetTheHook i agree with you....i had this surgery 3 days ago,the bleeding stoped but i cant sleep good and my head is killing me,i had an very strong septum deformation and the surgery duration was almost 2 hours!!!!! But it will be worth of it i hope!!!!

  • i'll have that sugery in one weak , im a little afraid though can anyone tell how it feels post surgery...

  • @MrAbhishekricky had it done 3 weeks ago and my breathing has improved a lot its painful the first week also i have stitches in my nose which is also a pain but it is worth it reply if you wanna no more info :)

  • @m0rningstretch Im going to get this surgery this upcomming summer and I have a few questions.

  • Her nose looks completely normal... and barely even needs a rhinoplasty... why would she get external done?? I'm gearing up for my second deviated septum surgery within ten years, I am 25 years old, and my ENT specialist says I have the worst case she has ever seen. It's 95% blocked and it swells up 12 months out of the year - anything can trigger it to swell to the point of 100% blockage. Therefore I end up having tons of sinus pressure. Too much pain!

  • hello evryone...i got na question about that septum surgery! How long is the duration of the surgery and how long is the duartion of the ansthesia? I will have this operation in a few days...so anyone have some good info pls =)

  • @DualerOne1 Septoplasty can usually be performed in under an hour, with the anesthesia areound the same amount of time. Thank you very much for the question.

    Dr. Nassif

  • @drpaulnassif wow this is scary lol

  • @DualerOne1

I had it done today. The anesthesia makes you fool horrible after surgery but it wore off within an hour or so. The surgery sucked badly and I'm still bleeding and recovering but hopefully it will be worth it.

QUESTION: can smoking electronic cigarettes after surgery be bad? They are vapor (not smoke) but contain nicotine. I've took a few puffs on mine. How bad is it?

  • @DualerOne1 i had this surgery a few hours ago, and it took 3 hours in the operation room and about 5 hours for the anesthesia to wear off. Goodluck, it is a painful surgery and anyone that has it done god be with you :]

  • @DualerOne1 yep i have had septoplasty, polypectomy, sigmoidectomy and they also made my turbinates smaller. By some doctor (not this guy) Overall it took 1 hour. Horrific pain post surgery lol cause i had so much done at the same time... took a long time to recover but with good pain medication i would have had no problems since codeine wasnt working for me.

  • @DualerOne1 hope u had good recover ^^

  • Hi Dr. Nassif. I just had a septoplasty with turbinate reduction surgery 3 days ago. I am wondering if lightly removing the excess dried up blood in your nose by picking it out lightly with your finger could possibly push the septum back to its original place? There was such a build-up of it in my nose that it began to hurt. I don't think that picking my nose gently would push it back, but I just want to make sure. I know your not supposed to, but I can't help it. Thanks!

  • UGHH IM HAVING THIS SURGERY TOMMOROW AND IM HAVING POLYPS REMOVED FML :(

  • I got it confirmed that my nose is deviated and I'm too young for this surgery (almost 16). But when I get this done will it reduce the size of my nose?

  • @LostLurre

Septoplasty alone will not reduce the size of your nose. If you wish, cosmetic work may be performed simultaneously that would reduce the size. Thank you for the question.

  • @drpaulnassif Thanks for the answer, while having the septoplasty can I reduce the price for rhinoplasty? I mean I'm already asleep and have most of it paid for.

  • @LostLurre i has this operation done yesterday. my doctor told me that i reached my full adult nose and that i didnt have to wait untill i was 18 to have this done. he said the younger i was the more quickley it would heal but i dont know what other surgeons think about me being 15 and getting this done.

  • Do i need to visit a doctor first and then they refer me to a ENT or do i go straight to the ENT? I have a very badly deviated septum thats been bothering me for 6 years. It affects my breathing and the only remedy for it is to us nasal sprays/not saline but things get worse after the medication stops working.

  • how long does your nose stay swollen couse i just had this done and my nose is huge now, how long will swelling last

  • Holy shit is that a screw driver

  • I'm interested in getting this done, although i'm only 16 and I don't think it's really all that noticable. My mom says it's only for comestic purposes though, is this true?

  • Im going to have mines coming up, guess its my christmas present :D, whats scary is i hear that when they put you to sleep, you could wake up during the surgey and feel the pain. is it true? :( hope i breathe better and smell ;D

  • I just got this done monday and I was wondering how long its going to drip, and if I still could get brusing. I know of a guy who had bruising appear only 10 days after surgery

  • @jokkal12 Hello,

Your nose will like drip for the first 2-3 days, which is normal. Depending on what you had performed, bruising may appear. It is likely to appear a bit more noticeable when you have osteotomies performed, (narrowing of the nasal bones) where your nasal bones are fractured. Thank you, and good luck.

    Dr. Nassif

  • @drpaulnassif Hi there. Did this patient just have a septo or was there rhino as well? Also, I have a minor dorsal hump on my nose but wondering if the septo might make the bump the tiniest bit smaller in anyway?

  • God I hope the canadian government will cover this. I really don't have 3 to 5 grand laying around.

  • I just got the Septoplasty done yesterday I didnt feel anything. I was actually dreaming while this was going on.

I can't wait til a week passes by so I could be healed and feeling better. (I could already feel the difference- but still bleeding and feeling like I have a cold) but I can't wait!!!

    *No pain

  • Comment removed

  • I had this exact operation 2 years ago and it is not painful at all. The most painful part is when they remove the bandages, and it's not painful it's just unpleasant.

  • Ok so I had my septum taken care of about 6 months ago but I still can't breathe properly at times and it's still as bad as it used to be. Anyone might know why? Pls help :)

  • I just had this done today. Good thing I waited until after the surgery to watch this..

  • I had this done a week ago today and just had my splints removed. OH MY GOD what a relief and the doc said im not even through healing. I still have better breathing to look forward too. I did have a turbinate reduction as well and was quite scared about the consequences (see empty nose syndrome) but my doc did the new method where the did a resection of the turbinate bone leaving the deliceate tissue intact. after 9 years of a deviated septum, this was the best decision I ever made!!!!

  • hi, i'm going to be having sinus surgery...and im worried about the pain of the removal of packing. Is there alot of pain with this?

  • Dear Sir, Your video is very informative. I am 35 years old, having frequent runny nose and terrible sneezing episodes for the past 10 years. I am having moderate septal deviation. Will a septoplasty resolve my issue of frequent cold/runny nose and sneezing ????

  • god damn it i can barely breathe through my left nostril

  • Hopefully when i'm 18 I will get this Op done !

  • I'm pretty positive I have this! I only recently found out what it was called. I've always known that I couldn't breathe through one nostril, and and night it's very difficult to sleep because the lack of air I'm able to get. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night gasping for air. When I was little, a TV fell on my head right above my nose, and there are stitches there, causing my nose to break so that's probably what caused it. I don't know, but I definitely can't breathe thru 1 nostril

  • I have a dorsal hump on my nose. Can that be the cause the my breathing problems? I breathe heavier through one nostril than the other and I also feel pressure inside my nose sometimes.

  • i go in for this procedure friday.....wish me luck lol

  • i have had a constant blocked nose for as long as I remember and the appearance of my nose is lets say prominent in comparison to others...would I need this and if so how long is the waiting time

  • While you do this do you put the patient to sleep?

I'm still young and it looks scary.

When I lift up my right nostril I can see the middle bone (thing) in popping out a bit.

  • @TheCyanDream

    Hello,

I perform septoplasty under general anesthesia, and the patient is not aware of the procedure as it is performed. Thank you, and best of luck to you.

    Dr. Nassif

  • @drpaulnassif can you fix a deviated septum without changing the appearance of the nose?

  • @drpaulnassif i have gross DNS on right side of nose i also have hyperthyroid, can i have surgery. Do i need packing in nose after operation and if yes how many days? I do a job... how much time do i require to get back to work.

Alos i didnt feel like i had DNS when ENT specialist told me 1 side is completely blocked. What are side effects if i dont get the operation done?

  • @TheCyanDream same i'm 16 right now, but i have to wait until i'm 18 to get this done, this is the first time I saw someone getting this done and it looked so scary how they hammered that metal thing straight into your face, i was so scared if it could slip and destroy the brain, ugghhh hopefully i wil get over it and i will be fine :/

  • @TheCyanDream i did and its painfull like hell suffering

  • good d.r

  • I'm having both of these procedures done. Is there anything the patient must do before having the surgeries? Can you go home that same day after the surgery? What pre-op procedures are done? How long do both surgeries take (if done during the same day)? Is there any pain that will be felt? Can I expect any bleeding, swelling or pain after the surgeries? What are any procedures or cautions I should take right after the surgery? Sorry for asking too much, I'm just so curious and scared!

  • One week ago from today I had a rhinoplasty, septoplasty, and turbinate reduction all i one (hell of a surgical cocktail!). My question is: Is it possible for the turbinate tissue to "re-grow" and if so, how likely and in what timeframe does this occur? Thanks.

  • Grrrrrrreat i have my OP in 6 days!!!!

  • I had this done.... I can breath so much better now...

  • i have a question, does it hurt (do they give anesthetics), how much is it, and would this help stop bloody noses? (my blood cells in my nose are too close to the skin)

  • Is it possible to have sleep apnea because of a deviated septum? Because as of right now, I have sleep apnea but I don't know if getting the septoplasty will rid me of that.

  • just got this done this morning

  • @revmcrhim

How was it, did you have abnormal swelling?

    was it painful?

  • will doing this surgery have any affect on the nose in terms of contact, I play flag football, do mixed martial arts and boxing, will this surgery make my nose more vulnerable to it braking or getting nose bleeds (which ive never had... Im 27)

  • Hullo my story is similar to tubedestroyer1111 ; I'm only at day 3 post op though. Completely stuffed in the nose (hardy any nasal breathing), and got floxacillin 2/d p.o. since temp went over 38dC yesterday. Can I count on being stuffed for a week w/o it signling bd side effects? How long is the nasal breathing perturbed post op (usually)? Any other signs/ side effects to watch out for?

  • I'm getting this in a few weeks what helps with the nerves before the surgery?

  • yea i remember my nose was smashed in and i had to have septoplasty surgery to fix my nose and its still somewhat crooked but not as bad and i remember how painful it was taking out the huge tampon looking packing aweek after it. crazy painful. haha

  • fuck.. i had a sinoplasty along with a rhino plasty in feburaury of 09. been wanting to see a video of how it was done but as soon as that fucker came out with the hammer i stopped the video and walked away.. never been able to breath right until that day they pulled out the packing a week later. my nose was fucked on both sides. im 22 and ive had this problem my whole life. it straightens ur nose. aint had a sinus headache till uve waken up from this surgery but its worth it.

  • How long does it take to recover?

  • @dianaloveschurros 3 days for me

  • hellow doctor, am planning to lift the tip of my nose, since it is drooping due to an accident. is it possible to lift the nose with closed rhinoplasty, and add some grafts if necessary?. this is not easy for me, but i have to do it. thanks in advance doctor.

  • hi, i had a septoplasy back in aug to correct my septum so i can breath better. It is april now and i still can not breath thru my left nostril. My doctor said the septum is straight now. He said it may be due to swollen membranes? I may be allergic to dust?..Any ideas/thoughts/help?! i still cant not breath thru my left nostril.

  • does this help the crookedness of the nose??? i will have a surgery on monday to improve that and also fix my broken nose. I was wondering if this straightens your nose as well?

  • @sera7ares

    Hello,

Depending on the severity of the septal deviation, it may give the nose a crooked appearance. It is likely that if the deviated septum is the cause of your crookedness, then straightening the septum will make your nose appear straighter. Thank you very much for the question and best of luck to you.

  • @drpaulnassif hi, what do u recommend for ppl with a deviated septum due to a disease called facial hemiatrophy where one side of the face and nose partly atrophy causing the nose to bend towards that side? would u use a standard procedure? will the disease interfere with healing?

  • My regular MD mentioned that they are starting to do more deviated surgeries with lasers and that packing and the inability to breathe through the nose during recovery is slowly becoming a thing of the past. Could you comment and inform me if this is true?

  • @stevedrums

    Hello,

A laser is for turbinoplasty. As of right now, after a septoplasty, you will still feel congested following surgery. There will also be nasal splints in place. It is not surrently possible to fix a deviated septum with a laser. Hope this helps answer your question. Thank you and best of luck to you.

  • i had a chronic headache around my forehead and eyes, and pain in my teeth for 4 yrs and partial obstruction of my airways and did this one to improve it a week ago, still not feeling better, how long does it take for a full recovery ?? to all the ENT doctors out there help, PLEASE !!!

  • Man I have had chronic sinus infections my whole life (25 years) and just now got it fixed (which is a whole other story, unfortunately- I'll just say it was not a speedy process/diagnosis)...it can do some terrible things to you...not many people realize and for me I don't think anyone could fully understand. Can cause more problems than you think to always have congestion (swelling/mucus) and infection. Give it a bit of time butbutbut very closely monitor for infection. (cont'd next post)

  • I ain't a doctor but no doctor (maybe one and still maybe not direct enough) ever communicated to me how bad it is to have an infection in there all the time. It can damage the lining of your sinus if you have very prolonged infection (this probably is years but my mom probably has this and it is no good) and I've found it to stress me and wear my body out in ways you would not guess. Look for yellow/green/brown/any coloured discharge, blood, extreme dryness (get saline solution and...(cont'd)

  • (cont'd)...keep it moist in there. If you just had surgery (I just had Septoplasty and polyp removal) they prob recomended Rhinaris spray...keep using that as needed. (saline solution spray) Moist is good...dry and congested and bloody and coloured discharge is bad. If you are hot that's another sign of infection. You may feel dopey, sluggish, weak if you have infection in there. If it lasts too long talk to your doctor it may be wise to go on an antibiotic. Don't let ppl scare you...(cont'd)

  • (cont'd)...either- pass it by your doc & see what they recommend. If that's prolonged antibiotics- use em. I was on 1 for 45 days once. It STILL didn't clear out- to give you an idea. (allergies/sensitivities- ESP. to smoke, perfume, other airborne things don't help)

If you have a moist nose, clear/white mucus, & postnasal drip it's prob. healing well.

7 days in ain't long but monitor for infection. Work with your doc but maintain some control & say what you need to- for your sake. Good luck!

  • @tubedestroyer1111

    Hello,

After a septoplasty, your breathing will improve between 1 and 2 weeks. It will be much better after two weeks, and keep improving from there. Hope this helps answer your question. Thank you and best of luck to you.

  • no clear view in smr operation

  • just got out off hospital yesterday from my septoplasy, and i dont have any pain like i thought it all went well and the only thing that hurts the most is my teeth but thats proberly from them leaning the tools on them soo all went well and nothing hurts after wards!!!!!!!!!

  • To smokeyJurntX:

As far as i know, septoplasty is run by ear nose and throat doctors, i m not too sure if a plastic surgeons do it too. I did mine a week ago, and no regrets at all..

If you go for a private surgery, i think private insurence covers the cost (coz its an operation from a health perspective, not because of the sick of the "beauty" and the look of your nose).. i think rhinoplasty is not covered by insurence but again check with the country you are coming from coz it may vary

  • Dear Youtubers,

I'm a little confused, do plastic surgeons do the septoplasty (not rhinoplasty) or do ear nose and throat Docs to the septoplasty?

Also does insurance cover the septoplasty, thanks

  • @SmokeyJurntX my doctor who made my septoplasty was both ent doc and plastic surgeon, i wanted to ask him that question too !!

  • I'm in Canada and didn't pay a dime...I seriously hope it is covered wherever you are. Esp. if it is contributing to infection in your sinuses.

  • im having the septoplasy surgery on the 12th of this month and im really exited about it cause i havent being able to breath out of it for at least 10 years and i only 14. so yea hopefully it works!!!!

  • I m a bit scared that my nose will never open again but the doctor said its expected to be closed for a week.. i dont know how some guys on here are saying they could breath perfectly a day after the surgery :s Dont be scared, its just the unconfi feeling that you gonna have after everything is over, but its not painfull.. Good luck!!

  • I agree it wasn't that bad. T3s cover the pain pretty easy. It is more uncomfortable than anything. (gause up your nose, swelling, blood, scabbing) Waking up from anesthetic I was sore in more than one place. But they helped that with demerol and morphine in the first few hours and I slept it off in the hospital. Getting the gause removed it not too comfy either...clench those fists and sing your favourite song, baby...lol...
