You're absolutely right. Vai is God-like, but his playing lends itself to more creative accompaniment, where-as Guthrie fills the gaps, yet still leaves just enough breathing space...if ya know what I mean....I'm rambling aren't I?

i dont think so... i mean great players always blend good... plus their tones work nicely together. generally billy's tone matches the guitar sound in general...for rock/fusion/funk... he is the man in bass although he is not the classic bass player per se...and of course vai's music commands COMPLETE attention...!
