  • I bought a small amount of "Red wriggler" worms from an online store I found in a quick web search, and they quickly multiplied into thousands. They seem to self regulate the population. I havesince learnt that a neighbor up the street had a worm bin and would have given me a few to start mine. What makes the red wriggler breed so good is that they group well and naturally work near the surface, unlike our Alberta worms which live independantly, and work deep in soil for winter.

  • how does someone start a worm compost?

  • @meeknquiet Sorry for the slow response, but I have been away from my youtube page for sometime now. To start my bins, I just drilled small holes in the top and bottom of the worm bin to allow water to drain and air to get in. Then placed that bin inside a 2nd bin with no holes in it to catch any exess water. filled with torn up news paper and cardboard, as well as used coffe grinds and vegetable trimmings from the kitchen scraps, then added a little regular dirt, and sprinkled water on it.
