She went insane because well she finally just snapped and out came the insanity :D because of her friends and her mother and brother and katara and the avatar and maybe her father
Loved it, your timing with the clips at the beginning was amazing. On a side note I'm so happy with myself when I understood most of the spanish at the beginning (that college class finally paying off).
azula was fav girl in the show next to toph. azula brought that "fuck you pay me bitch" attitude..........untill she went insane and toph made being blind funny as hell
I think it's kinda sad what happened to Azula. I think she had mental problems beacuse of her mother thinking she was a cruel monster and liking Zuko better than her. Then her only real friends betrayed her. After Katara beat her she just had a full mental breakdown.
Azula wasn't a psychopath. Psychopathy is the inability to experience emotions. She was sad and angry about her mother and when she lost to Katara she flipped out instead of remaining indifferent. Clearly she had some other disorder, a much more daunting one.
I personally agree with thrillhouse007. She wasn't lost as a child. She had reasons for going mad. I think that she couldn't help it. She wasn't loved very much as a child. Well, she was loved, but it wasn't really expressed by her mother. Her father always pushed her to be better, bigger, badder. She was insane from pressure and jealousy. Pressure from her father, and jealously for her brother. Even though she was daddy's favorite, she still wanted motherly love.
I loved how she evolved during the series. It was actually nice to see one of the most manipulative and evil characters around her friends and when she was a child. Yeah, she has HUGE issues, but look at her family. I adored The Beach episode, and how she opened up just a LITTLE.
Azula is such a complex character. Not only is she sociopathetic/had anti-social disorder, she can fall under many of the subtypes of the disorder. She is malevolent antisocial (includes sadistic and/or paranoid features), covetous antisocial (feels that life has not given her, her due) and risk-taing antisocial (includes histrionic features). But in the end, I still couldn't resist by love the development of her character. Crazy suits her.

@Clouderous Oh, I thought you meant the part where she completely lost it. Yeah, she showed signs of craziness before the battle, but that didn't really affect her ability to fight (in fact, I'd say it made her even more fierce since emotion is what drives people).
damn azulas eyes could put you in the e.r lol did you know azula is the leading cause of death in stupid teenagers in the fire nation that try to gain power by sleeping with the fire lords daughter =D =] =/ DX
I really liked her character. It was probably one of the most developed, alongside Zuko's. She obviously had some sort of anti-social personality disorder, and abandonment issues from her mom. She also had this compulsive jealousy towards her brother and all the love and attention he always got. Then when her father didn't allow her to attack the Earth Kingdom with him, she saw that she was on equal grounds to Zuko in her father's eyes. Then she snapped.
The creators did a good job making her character and personalality. I don't think she was insane though just mad with power. She was on the brink of insanity when all the responsibility fell on her though.
Zuko was a reflection of Princess Ursa, his mother and by extension Avatar Roku. Azula was a reflection Fire Lord Ozai and by extension Fire Lord Sozin. I always felt that Zuko was in his own right an avatar of Roku and Azula was in her own right an avatar of Sozin.
Azula was one of the most interesting characters. She clearly had an Anti-social personality disorder.
I see a lot of comments blatantly making things up as to why she had it so bad. Looking at the facts; she was manipulative, ruthless, and cruel even as a child. She had been shown to be without empathy when she had taunted Zuko, saying "Dad's going to kill you."
Her real issues were what made her so interesting. There's no reason pretend she's just a lost little girl. That's boring.
@thrilhouse007 you don't get it she became evil bcuz of her father she was still to young that her father told her that she was prodigy she could destroy anyone and stuff like that anyone would become evil she is not innocent girl but she realized the truth when everyone betrayed her
@thrilhouse007 Either that, or her father took hold of her while she was very young, after all she was a prodigy firebender and he wouldn't want to lose that, and drained her of any emotion other then loyalty to her father, trying to live up to his expectations, and blatant hate to anything, or anyone, else, molding her into who he wanted her to be - manipulative, rutheless and cruel. If you notice, her father is the only one she never tries to manipulate.
@thrilhouse007 I agree but when her mother left and then when her friends left, I believe that is what made her go from mean to crazy...she obviously was a very disturbed child but those qualities were encouraged by her father. I believe she could have turned out to be a better person but she had no one who tried to help her
@thrilhouse007 No, it was more likely her up-bringing. Her Father loved her more than he loved his son, and her Mother seemed to love Zuko more. She was probably intensely trained, and failure probably wasn't an option for her. Remember when we first meet her in the series?
poor azula. I don't think she had too much power, I just think that everything suddenly came at her. Her mom left her, her dad, friends and brother betrayed her. She had no one, what happened to her is just the product of a lot of nasty consequences. I think she deserved better. If Zuko could change, then why didn't they give her teh same chance?
azula was one of my fav character (and still is )at first she was such a strong character and then bam she suddenly goes insane doesn't make sense just because her friends betrayed her and got daddy and mommy issues she goes insane to this day it still doesnt make sense to me the fight with the fire lord was so one-sided aang was so god like i actually feel sorry for the fire lord look like the comet can only powerup 50% while avatar mode powersup 100000000% :P
@trikillerx Your really wrong about the Sozin's comet fight. Aang was getting his butt whoop and was trying to avoid Ozai as much as possible. It wasn't until Aang was in the Avatar state to actually start fighting,
@trikillerx Azula was strong, yes, because her father designed her that way, and her friends (whom she decieved herself into believeing her her puppets) were her support. Her father raised her so that he would be a very large part of her, she would never betray him, never question him, blah blah, while Ty Lee and Mai were the only people she ever let close, or got close too. When her three biggest supports disappeared, at the same time, she had nothing left to stand on no time to heal and broke.
@CrunkAddict she murdered the previous FIre Lord, and as Ozai became firelord he banished her as his first act, since she was the only one who could pretty much get in his way. He punished her for something he blackmailed her into doing, because hes that big of an asshole.
@Bargainmang1992 While it is assumed (and most probably accurate) that Ursa killed the previous Fire Lord, she left for her and Zuko's protection, not necessarily because Ozai banished her, more likely to save her life, as if she had been caught she would have most likely been put to death, or at the very least imprisioned. He never blackmailed her, she did it so Ozai wouldn't kill Zuko.
@caballoalizeero dont worry about it lol its still a nice name, some friends of mine named one of their son's Anakin after seeing Star Wars episode 1 the day before, I didn't have the heart to tell them how that boy grew up to be
This show was great, in goes in depth with the characters which I love alot... I just wish it could have been more violent in the action scenes. Fucking Nickalodean :-|
I never really liked Azula, but i admit I felt kinda sorry for her.. I mean, her father ruled with fear she wanted his acceptance she became the same way he was, Her mother was practically afraid of her and gave most of her love to Zuko, her supposed friends betrayed her to defend her brother who she most likely hated because of the whole mother issue. Everyone was abandoning her, the world she built off power was crumbling and she snapped. Pity, the strong villain she was became pathetic.
@HJSDGCE really? remebmer that episode where fire lord ozai somewhat explain to zuko what happened to her? "your mother knew i wanted the throne." "she commited treasoneous things that night." he said those, so i think it's reffering to the fact that since she knew he wanted the throne she killed fire lord azulon in agreement that he wouldn't harm zuko. and fire lord ozai being fire lord ozai (and the fact that he didn't want his conspiracy getting out" he banished her.
She is a frightening villain. And her theme is chilling, one of the best in avatar. So cold, calculating, and confident. And powerful. But fear is how she controls people. In the end, people start standing up to her. They don't fear her anymore. She can't take it.
Azula is such an awesome character! She also made me the saddest, she had so much potential, and she applied it in the wrong direction her whole life. I guess she scared me the most as well.
thanks for actully good video about her.she is my favorite character and it is alittle hard to find a vid thats ..lets just say awsome compared to the rest of them
Azula was always so cool, calm, and collected. When she finally lost it, it was very gratifying, but still a little dissapointing (not to mention slightly scary, yeesh).
@meeluvsu12 i didn't feel bad for her at all. excuse my language, but she's a manipulative, slimy bitch. she had every opportunity to see what she had become, but she chose to ignore her conscience. she dug her own grave and buried herself alive.
@drumtesters Not really. The moment Ozai realized she was a prodigy, he began manipulated her and brainwashed her to use fear to control people and not care for anyone. Azula was always the victim, because no one showed her any love, and that was what she needed all along.
OMIGOSH!!!! THIS WAS AWESOME. Sorry for the all caps, I just loved this. Zuko is my favorite character, but Azula is my favorite villain. I wish I had the talent to make vids, but I don't so I enjoy everyone else's. 10/10
i think she should have been shown more love as a child... she's a genious and all but she needed attention, and never got it..so she made it happen for her. Then theres the pressure of a whole nation on her shoulders..it was just too much for her, i just wish we got to see exactly what happened to her:D
@Lidka44 how would that been a better ending dude lol i dont follow that logic at all, i think Avatar had probably one of the best anime endings that i've had the privilage of watching on TV
i dont blame Azula. first of all her own mother didnt even love her. All of azulas closest freinds betrayed her. The firelord left her in charge of an entire nation which was too much preesure that she couldnt handle it. and every boy she tryed to date was too afraid of her to even come close. It's a sad life realy if you think about it i feel sorry for her and when she got beat by her brother that didnt help at all ofcourse shes insane now sad story.
Blame Zuko for being such a sissy and always falling in his mother's hands whenever Azula, the smaller sister he should love and respect, tried to annoy him..
@silverbullet135 Azula's mom did love her, but she resisted being loved. She is a psychopath with no sense of empathy or any true emotional ties to anyone. Everyone she was close to was a tool to be used, and when they wouldn't let her pull their strings anymore she snapped and blamed everyone but herself. The main target was her mother, and not even Azula believed that was true. Her hallucination showed her mother saying she loved her, and Azula tried to erase it. She wants to be hated.
@Kikora21 I don't think she wants to be hated, but that she doesn't know how to let herself be loved. She's been fighting so long, she doesn't know anything else.
@Nicksbaby91 I have to agree with the top comment, Thrillhouse007. It's not that she got caught up in someone else's will and became this misunderstood soul who only knows how to fight... She pushed people away, or she callously used them. She had the chance at friends, at a loving family, at everything she claims she wanted, but decided they weren't important unless they suited her goals. Then when people pull away from her it's easier to say 'They hate me' than 'I was wrong'.
@Kikora21 She pushed people away, because she didn't know how to let them close, she used them because that's all she knew. She had the chance at friends, yes, but when did she ever have the chance at a loving family? Her mother loved Zuko, but gave up on Azula, and her father never loved her, she was a weapon he could control. She never said people hated her, she said they feared her, and she only cared about Mai and Ty Lee betraying her, because she let them close.
@Nicksbaby91 Again I have to say that her mother did love her. More than that Azula knew her mother loved her, that's why when she hallucinated her mother being there, it was only love and support she offered... And Azula threw it away. She is not an abused tortured soul seeking redemption... She is a woman who from early on denied any healthy relationships. Those were her decisions to make.
@Kikora21 But that's exactly it - she never knew her mother loved her, because it wasn't shown as obviously, and she saw how Zuko disappointed their father by failing, so she pushed herself harder, and with the pressure of being a prodigy made things even worse. She's not a woman, she's a 14 year old girl, who needs help. She denied healthy relationships, because that's all she saw, that's all she knew. How can you say they were her decisions, when she wasn't taught anything else?
@Nicksbaby91 Don't excuse it. :S Yes she knew her mother loved her, she always knew. As I said time and again that is why her own mind made that image of being comforted by her mother, and how did she react? Violently.
She is spoiled, manipulative, cold hearted, and cruel. She has never shown any kind of empathy for any other living creature, human or otherwise, not even in her own family. What she needs isn't a hug over how hard her life is, it's a kick in the butt.
@Kikora21 but then how do you explain that time she made zuko say he had visited his unkel in prison the only reason she said it herself was to look after him. she really carred for him in some demented way :D
@thuqchiqabrunette No. She wanted to keep him around to take the blame when it was discovered the Avatar was still alive. She needed someone to take the fall for it all, and she wanted to see Zuko fall hard. And think about how she looked when Zuko was mutilated by their father... She was absolutely ecstatic! The only time she ever showed any kind of love to Zuko was when she was leading him to the slaughter.
@silverbullet135 Never do we have the mother's own words that she didn't love her Azula. You got that from Azula's hallucination which is not a credible source. She may have been afraid of Azula, but only because Ozai saw potential in her to be a ruthless leader of the fire nation and raised her accordingly.
Azula saw Ty Lee and Mai as friends, but admitted to manipulating them through fear, the only reliable method to her. Her father, the fire lord, made her see all other men as inferior.
@PopeKurt On the beach you actually very briefly see a gentler side of her, but she hides it a few seconds later. Azula probably didn't start out bad, but her father was the main driving force for her ruthlessness. Looking for a parent's approval is one thing that can break some people apart.
@PopeKurt I don't belive Ursa was ever scared or afraid of Azula she just didnt understand what was going on with her "What is wrong with that child?" And although Azula led herself to believe that she manipulated Ty Lee and Mai through fear they were true friends. "Azula can shoot all the lightning she wants at me I'm not going down there." (sorry I cant remember the episodes for the quotes but I can find them later if you want) and it wasn't that men were inferior, she was taught everyone was.
@silverbullet135 Both Zuko and Azula have admitted to being jealous of the other, both wanting the affection of the other parent. Azula got the fathers attention and respect while Zuko got love and affection from the mother. You can pity her, but Zuko was in the right in defeating her and putting an end to his families war with the world. That's how I see it.
@silverbullet135 CORRECTION: What u said about her is right, but even when she was very little she had a disturbing personality. Also her mother (on a mirror) told her she loved Azula. All parents love their kids (usually). She was powerhungry from the very beginning and that w/ her antisocial disorder resulted in her demise. She could've been a good friend of Darwin if you know what I mean.
@silverbullet135 Her mom did love her but she just thought something was off, I thought that was apparent in the end. She just looked out for zuko which made azula more jealous and created a vicious cycle.
@silverbullet135 Her mother did love her. She was just afraid of her. Mei and Ty Lee were never really her friends because Azula wasn't capable of making any genuine human connection. Azula was cruel, calculating and manipulative. It made her a terrific villain, but a terrible friend. Her demise was sad though. To see her go crazy was even more jarring because she was always so in control. It makes you wonder where things went wrong for her as a child
@silverbullet135 She is the most fascinating character in the series for me. You could fear, admire and pity her all at the same time. She was one of the strongest characters mentally throughout the series, yet she is the one to go insane at the end. I thought she was done very well.
She went insane because well she finally just snapped and out came the insanity :D because of her friends and her mother and brother and katara and the avatar and maybe her father

Azula manipulate the other characters using the fear. She had fear of her dad, the avatar and losing the war.
She had the fear, but don't care about it, and put the fear into other characters, inclunding her friends.
She used this into other characters, because they care about their fear. The fear moved the war to her.

Isn't it obvious why Azula became this way?
Her father is the Firelord and she sees her brother...
Zuko wasn't like his father, he was weaker than Azula.
That made her angry. That's just Azula, if you are weaker than her she will crush you.
That's why she was always trying to be better than her brother, to be loved by her father.
Zuko was made angry
Azula was born angry

Azula was born with a scoial problem
Cruel, Cunning, Selfish, Attention-Seeking, Manipulative, Ruthless, Evil
She was by all means still sane until certain events happened.
The first one was probably when her "friends" ditched her for Zuko.
Next would be when her father left her alone in charge of the nation. Not only is she now away from her father, she is udner a lot of stress.
Seeing her mother in the mirror with a hard to believe message...
Being defeated by the "weakling" she hated...

good show but the ending blows
azula was one of my fav character (and still is )at first she was such a strong character and then bam she suddenly goes insane doesn't make sense just because her friends betrayed her and got daddy and mommy issues she goes insane to this day it still doesnt make sense to me the fight with the fire lord was so one-sided aang was so god like i actually feel sorry for the fire lord look like the comet can only powerup 50% while avatar mode powersup 100000000% :P
trikillerx 1 year ago
@trikillerx Your really wrong about the Sozin's comet fight. Aang was getting his butt whoop and was trying to avoid Ozai as much as possible. It wasn't until Aang was in the Avatar state to actually start fighting,
TokkaFan41 1 year ago
@trikillerx Azula was strong, yes, because her father designed her that way, and her friends (whom she decieved herself into believeing her her puppets) were her support. Her father raised her so that he would be a very large part of her, she would never betray him, never question him, blah blah, while Ty Lee and Mai were the only people she ever let close, or got close too. When her three biggest supports disappeared, at the same time, she had nothing left to stand on no time to heal and broke.
Nicksbaby91 1 year ago
@CrunkAddict she murdered the previous FIre Lord, and as Ozai became firelord he banished her as his first act, since she was the only one who could pretty much get in his way. He punished her for something he blackmailed her into doing, because hes that big of an asshole.
Bargainmang1992 1 year ago
@Bargainmang1992 While it is assumed (and most probably accurate) that Ursa killed the previous Fire Lord, she left for her and Zuko's protection, not necessarily because Ozai banished her, more likely to save her life, as if she had been caught she would have most likely been put to death, or at the very least imprisioned. He never blackmailed her, she did it so Ozai wouldn't kill Zuko.

HJSDGCE 1 year ago

@meeluvsu12 i didn't feel bad for her at all. excuse my language, but she's a manipulative, slimy bitch. she had every opportunity to see what she had become, but she chose to ignore her conscience. she dug her own grave and buried herself alive.
drumtesters 1 year ago
@drumtesters Not really. The moment Ozai realized she was a prodigy, he began manipulated her and brainwashed her to use fear to control people and not care for anyone. Azula was always the victim, because no one showed her any love, and that was what she needed all along.

i think she should have been shown more love as a child... she's a genious and all but she needed attention, and never got it..so she made it happen for her. Then theres the pressure of a whole nation on her shoulders..it was just too much for her, i just wish we got to see exactly what happened to her:D

Bargainmang1992 1 year ago
i dont blame Azula. first of all her own mother didnt even love her. All of azulas closest freinds betrayed her. The firelord left her in charge of an entire nation which was too much preesure that she couldnt handle it. and every boy she tryed to date was too afraid of her to even come close. It's a sad life realy if you think about it i feel sorry for her and when she got beat by her brother that didnt help at all ofcourse shes insane now sad story.
silverbullet135 1 year ago 9
Blame Zuko for being such a sissy and always falling in his mother's hands whenever Azula, the smaller sister he should love and respect, tried to annoy him..
sharinganx12 1 year ago
@silverbullet135 Azula's mom did love her, but she resisted being loved. She is a psychopath with no sense of empathy or any true emotional ties to anyone. Everyone she was close to was a tool to be used, and when they wouldn't let her pull their strings anymore she snapped and blamed everyone but herself. The main target was her mother, and not even Azula believed that was true. Her hallucination showed her mother saying she loved her, and Azula tried to erase it. She wants to be hated.
Kikora21 1 year ago
@Kikora21 I don't think she wants to be hated, but that she doesn't know how to let herself be loved. She's been fighting so long, she doesn't know anything else.
Nicksbaby91 1 year ago
@Nicksbaby91 I have to agree with the top comment, Thrillhouse007. It's not that she got caught up in someone else's will and became this misunderstood soul who only knows how to fight... She pushed people away, or she callously used them. She had the chance at friends, at a loving family, at everything she claims she wanted, but decided they weren't important unless they suited her goals. Then when people pull away from her it's easier to say 'They hate me' than 'I was wrong'.
Kikora21 8 months ago
@Kikora21 She pushed people away, because she didn't know how to let them close, she used them because that's all she knew. She had the chance at friends, yes, but when did she ever have the chance at a loving family? Her mother loved Zuko, but gave up on Azula, and her father never loved her, she was a weapon he could control. She never said people hated her, she said they feared her, and she only cared about Mai and Ty Lee betraying her, because she let them close.
Nicksbaby91 8 months ago
@Nicksbaby91 Again I have to say that her mother did love her. More than that Azula knew her mother loved her, that's why when she hallucinated her mother being there, it was only love and support she offered... And Azula threw it away. She is not an abused tortured soul seeking redemption... She is a woman who from early on denied any healthy relationships. Those were her decisions to make.
Kikora21 8 months ago
@Kikora21 But that's exactly it - she never knew her mother loved her, because it wasn't shown as obviously, and she saw how Zuko disappointed their father by failing, so she pushed herself harder, and with the pressure of being a prodigy made things even worse. She's not a woman, she's a 14 year old girl, who needs help. She denied healthy relationships, because that's all she saw, that's all she knew. How can you say they were her decisions, when she wasn't taught anything else?
Nicksbaby91 8 months ago
@Nicksbaby91 Don't excuse it. :S Yes she knew her mother loved her, she always knew. As I said time and again that is why her own mind made that image of being comforted by her mother, and how did she react? Violently.
She is spoiled, manipulative, cold hearted, and cruel. She has never shown any kind of empathy for any other living creature, human or otherwise, not even in her own family. What she needs isn't a hug over how hard her life is, it's a kick in the butt.
Kikora21 8 months ago
@Kikora21 but then how do you explain that time she made zuko say he had visited his unkel in prison the only reason she said it herself was to look after him. she really carred for him in some demented way :D
thuqchiqabrunette 7 months ago
@thuqchiqabrunette No. She wanted to keep him around to take the blame when it was discovered the Avatar was still alive. She needed someone to take the fall for it all, and she wanted to see Zuko fall hard. And think about how she looked when Zuko was mutilated by their father... She was absolutely ecstatic! The only time she ever showed any kind of love to Zuko was when she was leading him to the slaughter.
Kikora21 7 months ago
@silverbullet135 Never do we have the mother's own words that she didn't love her Azula. You got that from Azula's hallucination which is not a credible source. She may have been afraid of Azula, but only because Ozai saw potential in her to be a ruthless leader of the fire nation and raised her accordingly.
Azula saw Ty Lee and Mai as friends, but admitted to manipulating them through fear, the only reliable method to her. Her father, the fire lord, made her see all other men as inferior.
PopeKurt 1 year ago
@PopeKurt On the beach you actually very briefly see a gentler side of her, but she hides it a few seconds later. Azula probably didn't start out bad, but her father was the main driving force for her ruthlessness. Looking for a parent's approval is one thing that can break some people apart.
Ddangerdan 1 year ago
@Ddangerdan Especially when you're parents want you to be two completly different things.
Nicksbaby91 1 year ago
@PopeKurt I don't belive Ursa was ever scared or afraid of Azula she just didnt understand what was going on with her "What is wrong with that child?" And although Azula led herself to believe that she manipulated Ty Lee and Mai through fear they were true friends. "Azula can shoot all the lightning she wants at me I'm not going down there." (sorry I cant remember the episodes for the quotes but I can find them later if you want) and it wasn't that men were inferior, she was taught everyone was.
Nicksbaby91 1 year ago
@silverbullet135 Both Zuko and Azula have admitted to being jealous of the other, both wanting the affection of the other parent. Azula got the fathers attention and respect while Zuko got love and affection from the mother. You can pity her, but Zuko was in the right in defeating her and putting an end to his families war with the world. That's how I see it.
PopeKurt 1 year ago
@silverbullet135 CORRECTION: What u said about her is right, but even when she was very little she had a disturbing personality. Also her mother (on a mirror) told her she loved Azula. All parents love their kids (usually). She was powerhungry from the very beginning and that w/ her antisocial disorder resulted in her demise. She could've been a good friend of Darwin if you know what I mean.
mindsoulbody 1 year ago
@silverbullet135 Her mom did love her but she just thought something was off, I thought that was apparent in the end. She just looked out for zuko which made azula more jealous and created a vicious cycle.
XaldinX 1 year ago
@silverbullet135 Her mother did love her. She was just afraid of her. Mei and Ty Lee were never really her friends because Azula wasn't capable of making any genuine human connection. Azula was cruel, calculating and manipulative. It made her a terrific villain, but a terrible friend. Her demise was sad though. To see her go crazy was even more jarring because she was always so in control. It makes you wonder where things went wrong for her as a child
fong03 1 year ago
@silverbullet135 She is the most fascinating character in the series for me. You could fear, admire and pity her all at the same time. She was one of the strongest characters mentally throughout the series, yet she is the one to go insane at the end. I thought she was done very well.
