    (also,cool vid)

  • Great vid. I appreciate the sharing of skills and talent like this- great for ideas, but it is really really fast, man! Cool!

  • Hi, I'm from chile so excuse my English ... I'm learning to play harmonica and I really liked your video, I would like to know what scales you do at first, I have a harmonica in C and I would like to learn to play like you, greetings from South America

  • holy shit.

  • Super!

  • Well done , your vids are well put together and lots of info for harp players ,

  • huh?

  • I bought a honer Eb proffesional blues harp and im having trouble getting the scale down could you help me

  • wow! great , ur good

  • the police siren outside really helps

  • god damn it!!!!! that was fast

  • OMG. 6:13 for the win.

  • I watched this video a few weeks ago and after ther first time I watched it and went out and bought a blues harp. In my eyes you are better that pat. Please keep the videos coming. Im going to keep playing and I will post you a vid of me playing some of the riffs you are playing.

  • What the hell? YOU ARE GREAT!!! :-)

  • can you show in with hole to blow

  • awsome! I didn't understand a thing though...

  • great way of breaking it down for us.

It's never a good idea to approach a complex problem because you end up with a complex solution. Simplify the problem, get a simple solution.

    Thanks.

  • great..nice finale :)

  • Someone is knocking on your door ;)

  • due to watching you on youtube I started learning harp about 6 months ago and I'm loving it, can't thank you enough for the lessons, they're priceless. cheers

  • How often do you change your hair color dude? lol

  • Jason, when you talk about playing triplets, you said you were playing 2 draw, 2 draw bend (full step) followed by 1 draw. It sounds to me as if you're playing 2 draw, 2 blow, 1 draw. is this true? if not, are you actually bending the 2 draw down further that a whole step? It might just be what i'm hearing as well. thanks for the video

  • you fucking kick ass bro!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm a 35 year guitar player so I'm very discerning but your musicianship is stellar. And you have the one thing that can't be taught, SOUL!

    Keep it up!

  • that harmonica just lost it's virginity

  • Hey jason .. Amy here

if you cen still remember me , zeebra pants .. grandougher of truus from holland ..

  • MyGod... you are the Devil!

  • Brilliant. That was a fine example of not just how to play and teach harmonica well but how not to come off as a show off wanker. I got a great deal out of this one short video. Love to see you play live. Come and do a tour downunder soon please. Thanks, John Knowles, Sydney

  • great video and I will be watching it a lot to get that continuous flow-awesome thanks!

  • totally dug your video.. going to be listening to it a lot to get this stringing effect- GREAT

  • Man that sounds amazing!! great blower!!

  • u freakin awesome.

  • I didn't learn anything..but um...that's impressive..show off haha...I think I want learn now

  • It sounds great !!! a fantastic player !!!

  • the foot stomping makes a difference.

  • wow your really one of the best harmonica players around arent you?

    great lessons btw

  • dude....I haven't played my harp in years....you've inspired me to pick it back up for shits and giggles....I'm so glad I stumbled upon you!!!!!

  • nice man, hey, what key and type is that, and what would you recommend for me??? only been playing for a couple of weeks and bought a lee oskar 10 hole, c, diatonic, and I am having a bit of trouble playing, I can play short riffs and that but when it comes to fast or fastish playing with words I fall to peices, will keep watching these to see if they help

  • THANK YOU !

  • great! i hope to improve to play fast!

  • Jason I wish I had your talent. God bless and keep up the great work.

  • theres a guy jackin off out side his window

  • wow. that was amazing!

  • hahaha, les polices !

  • why an Eb harp cause i dont have one? the closest thing i have is a D.

  • hi jason!

I love you songs! I love the way you play! I've always thought that we had to choose between speed or tone. I have a nice tone, but I play too slow. You have both attributes! It's amazing! I have the same opinion. I dont like the players that play fast but not bluesy. Do you have these phrases/scales written? Can you send it to me? It's amazing!

  • ...deep, not depp. Well, maybe depp as well...

  • He makes it sound simple because it is so natural to him, but the thought put into the phrasing is depp, and this guy is a serious harp player by any standards. I am a guitarist with a degree in jazz composition, but am trying to delve more deeply into blues, and I just got schooled on putting phrases together. Great job!

  • hi, I have a M.Hohner Marine Band 365 C but i cant get this sound.i play it ameturly but i think i cant bend. how can we get this sound ? or my harmonica is different from yours ? thanks

  • You don't look like a harmonica player...

  • @WeedsOwnTanDitchAnts that's funny, as long as someone has a harmonica in their mouth they look like a harmonica player to me. Heck, I have a friend that looks like your standard issue jarhead marine that plays beatbox flute and he's damn good at it. Looks don't matter, having music in your heart is all that does.

  • hi jason, i respect you as a player. thanks for your videos. I am constantly learning and you have helped me even know you are much younger LOL. Thanks Craig

  • It just makes more sense every time I watch it.... Thank you so much from NZ!

  • Holy hell, you're amazing. And I really like your hair.

  • You are the coolest ever.

  • blind owl's harp in anything he did or johnny winter's rhythm, maybe in 'be careful of a fool', can share the soul of the blues with any musician in building depth in shredding that harp

you're very, very good and have the talent to be great

  • Very nice man

  • man this is RIDICULOUS ^_^

    respect.

  • awesome dude

  • You are awesome

  • you are sick

  • emo!

  • @psycho1516

    He's not.

And he kicks your fucking ass playing harp (if u even play it)

    Show respect, bastard.

  • hey I'm gunna buy a harmonica, what key should i buy it in and what make should i buy to start off with? i really don't know much about them..... thanks.

  • Sounding GOOD!

  • Awesome!

Now I need an Eb harp...

  • you are missing it dude

  • Farking phenomenal mate. I hope i can get there too.

  • i got wood

  • thanks man u play pretty cool

  • dang man...his face turns red wen he plays fast......awesome :o)

  • hello jason i am a begginer in harmonica wich tipe of harmonica do you recomend me to buy ? i would be really thankful to heard your advised

  • @mariosalmeron a golden melody key of g or c. and jason recommend to me a a suzuki fire breath and i tried it out and thats all i play. but that suzukis price is kinda expensive.

  • O_______________O !!!

    in-cre-i-bleee xddd (H)

  • (L)(o)(v)(e) IT!

  • I hope ALL harp players will remember Norton Buffalo..who passed away last month ...and IMHO..the most complete player ever!

    This guy is GREAT......

    Not ever to compare...but

    check out Norton Buffalo

  • Long live the Spirit of Snortin Nortin! A friend of mine.

  • I always learn something from a Jason Ricci YouTube video......without even trying.....I like the triplet practice idea. That is on my practice list for this week.

    Woody

  • i can play faster than myself?

  • Yes, in a manner of speaking just not well or the way I do play fast...nah I mean?

  • @lildude1122 I think he meant that he can play faster than lota ppl think he can :)) (those that probably ask him "how come you can play so fast?") :D

  • Awesome!

  • wooooah look at your hair!

i was like, hey is that Jasonricci?? it is!!

  • k guapo

  • Hi, Jason! Did you published harp methods???

    Regard from Brazil!!!

    QUIM

  • great lesson man

    very useful stuff

  • Comment removed

  • you watched the video and all you have to say is his hair sucks

    you are a douche.

  • I believe the idea here is the music. Douche

  • incredible man, I played in bands year ago and lost the love for a while, than I picked up my daughters toy harmonica and was hooked, now I have bought a cheap sousa band and cant stop playing although I havent got a clue what I am doing. If I become half as good palying those notes slow I will be happy, the blues is what life is all about and I am making music again after a sort, love your playing and it has made me want to play more..............

  • Hola soy Cardo. Thanks for playing blues, you're the best for me, you're a great blues harp in live concerts (lots of soul ... or a soul sold? jajajajajajaja

joking). I leave a bad record I hope you listen. I hope you make a comment. Thank you very much jason ricci.

    Cardo from Argentina.

  • magico!!!! ti ho messo subito su preferiti.

    saluti dalla sardegna

    ciaoooooooooo

  • cool man :D wish i could play it slow let alone fast!

  • are u like in a rock band

  • he's like: Jason Ricci and New Blood ;)check his website..if you look up at the top right..under 'more info' click on it, it will give you all the information you need to know.

I wish more people realized that's all they have to do to answer most or all of the questions they ask in the comments section...

  • Wow!

But guys, it isn´t the harmonica, it´s the guy playing it! I think I´d heard Jason in The Roadhouse (the finest blues you´ve never heard!)

Now, that harmonica sounds very good, usually you may feel some air leaking out somewhere, but I don´t think in this one.

The important thing from this video is that playing fast isn´t just playing fast, notes have been organized in a way that you do know what you´re doing, rather than choosing the next note right before playing it.

    Great playing!

  • dam...... u should play the solo from hook by blues travelers,i think it would be awesome, lol

  • you have a new fan.

  • what chord is this harmonica tuned??

  • Very beatifull. Thanks.

  • hi

thats amazzing! do you have calluses on your lips? my lips are really sore after i play harmonica hard for 20 min or so... did that happen to you as well?

  • I want you in my band.

  • could you please tell me what harmonica it is you are using as ilike the sound of this type and i am starting off and wanna learn on that one your playing.

  • i think all the harps he plays are customized. If your just starting out, most people will recommend a Hohner Special 20. Or a lower-price-range Hohner. The Blues Bender might be a good first one, but I haven't played it.

  • E flat

  • nice

  • omg he is class :)

his hair is cool too . . .

  • wait, so how do you play so fast?

  • You look like David Bowie.

    btw, thanks for the lesson

  • Amazing! Seriously.

Where do you start learning to play?

  • Get with someone in your town, watch these vids and others and listen to old blues records.

  • what old blues records do you recommend??

  • you almost make me want to stop trying to play this damn thing cause your too damn good! lol. seriously though I feel like I'm going no-where or should have started off with personal lessons instead of trying it myself. Any suggestions?

  • Sick!!!!

  • holy shit...

    it's fast

  • Jesus Christ that sounds insane...

  • harmonica has always been really tough for me to pick up. I'm naturally good at playing guitar and piano and even drums, but for some reason the harmonica is so foreign to me.

Do you use you tongue on the holes to control which ones get air going through them?

  • u make ur mouth reaaly small so only air goes into the holes u wanna play.... u can control the holes with you're tongue, but thats an advanced stkill....

  • lol hey yeah im god at piano guitar and drums and im having ago at harmonica and im ok but its way harder lol

  • what is the type of your harmonica? 24 holes?

  • 10 holes, goldenmelody

  • holy smokes. where do u find a 24-hole harmonica?

  • please acid head keep negative comments like that to yourself. Every person watching jason admires what he is giving away with his postings.... please take your negativity somewhere else. thanks

  • This IS a real instrument. Let me ask you something...... Do you like rock? Well, Blues spawned rock, and what helped create Blues was the Harmonica.

  • show off

  • Well....yeah....No shame here.

  • Great playing Your telented... very much so... !!!

  • AWESOME!!!.. REALLY GREAT!!

  • Awesome playing!

  • jason you are spectacular as you play the harmonica

I saw this video many many many times and I learned from memory. jaja

    excellent!!!!!!!!!!

  • u rule...but uh .. how do i make blues sound in harmonica?

  • Find some lessons on playing in "Cross Harp" or 2nd position. Then learn how to bend notes (In short) oh yeah but a bunch of blues records!

  • Thanks!!

  • Hey! We both play with our pinkys up. That makes us gentlemen! You're top-notch, dude!

  • Hey Ur really inspirational man idk if ya know it. I gotta a couple questions though....

    1. Where can i get a harmonica that has that blues sound to it?

    2. Is that a single or a double layer harmonica?

    3. Did you have a teacher or did you just learn youself??

    4. Are their notes to follow or do you just go by ear and memory??

  • Are all the people watching a video about (really good) harmonica playing and asking whether the player is gay...gay? Wow...

  • Excelent!!!! nothing to say,...only EXCELENT!!!

    Thanks for sharing it.

  • ahh.. insane, nice !

  • wow i hav no idea how the hell i came upon this vid but wutevr lol.

i have a question and plz do not take any offense by this. are you gay? its just kinda the impression i got. and i rlly mean no offense by it just wondering lolz

  • nobody gives a shit.

  • Who cares if he's gay or not. Worry about his ability to play harmonica!!!

  • haha yea ikand idk why it wuz just a random quesion geesh lol and he is pretty good ig idk tho cuz i dont really know anythig bout tht sorta stuffs :P

  • Just curious? (Why?) What fucking business is it of yours?

  • after using pan knife they would have a surface without wood finish. So these faces can absorb more saliva ? can swell more. Will be more ruined?

  • Agreed!

  • I directly asked it to Adam Gussow. Waiting for sensei's aswer :D

  • 1st: Thanks for doing this!

2nd: Is there any way you can do these tube lessons with a more common harp? I know Eb isn't *that* uncommon, and I sort of feel like I'm nitpicking, but it does make it easier to follow along if you use a more common major key.

and thanks again for doing these!

  • wow excellent

  • Really great!

What type/ make/ model harmonica are you using? Your right hand/ thumb frequently moves to a chromatic harmonica position - can you demo this type as well?

  • Hey. Sorry for my bad english. I have a marine band in key of c. Its wood is starting to swell from spit . I mean the wood parts that makes the holes started to sweelll and can be visible when looking my harp diretctly downwards or upwards. They swelled out about 2 3 mm. They hurts my lips. Is there something that i can do. Can they recover and go back where they used to be ^^ :(

  • adam gussow advises simpley to shave it off with a pen knife

  • im not very experienced yet so it's just a tip buy a harmonica with a plastic comb the plastic wont take your spit, they sound different though i prefer my Hohner special 20 :)

  • very nice man you give me something to look forward to, i can feel that music in my blood

  • what scale is that harmonica?

  • hey jason thats all good man,,,but can you play fast,,,hehehehehehe foookin awsome mate,,would love to hear you n dan gage jam together man,, ace from the uk

  • Pat and I sat in KClinger's one night telling stories, I remember him talking about meeting you for the first time and something about a VW bus if memory serves. He was definitely proud of his relationship with you and your success. Great guy, glad I got to see him play a couple times and hang out with him for a bit!

  • genius

  • sick

  • Cool iv always wanted to learn how to play. what should i do if i wanna start learning?

    Please write back

  • Hi Jason I am an argentinean harp player, and I dont have words to describe your talent!!, now a day I just play harmonica to myself, I work every day very hard (now I´m living in Brazil with my family) I don´t have enough time to practice with harmonica, but really I would like to know if you could to play that thing a little more slow...I would like to learn theses tips always that you can do it. thanks a lot!!

  • hook57 to play like that ugotta practice practice practice & practice more theres no short cuts

  • whos pat

  • ya dad

  • cool man! hope to play like you someday!

  • awesome mate

  • kinda a embarising question but what do you man by "pentatonic scale"?

  • NOT an embarsing question! A ver reasonable one and one I should have started this video by explaining. A pentatonic scale is a 5 note combination of note consisting of the 1,flat 3rd, 4, 5, and flat seven... OR... In harp terminology: The 2 draw, 3 draw bent a half step (One small bend) the 4 blow, 4 draw, 5 draw the the 6 blow or octave thats in cross harp it can be played in any position. Great question!
