Tutorial: Convert videos to edit in iMovie on iPad 2

Thanks for this tutorial! This really helped me out and now I'm editing away in iMovie with videos I took on a Sony Bloggie. Only trade off is I recorded in 1080p and to edit in iMovie it goes down to 720p.

hmm, i too followed all the steps and could not get the video to show up on the camera roll. I am currently re-doing everything again to see if i get it this second time around.

@OriginalJayree - i always see people stating they have used HandBrake to do this on their mac but i cannot confirm.. also saw someone talking about one called VideoMonkey.. again I cannot confirm.. Good Luck..

I used your U Tube Video to convert a video from my Panasonic Lumix Camera. I was able to get the video to show up and play correctly in the Ipad 2 VIDEO APP but it did not appear in the IMOVIE APP. Only videos that appeared there were one taken with the Ipad camera??? BOB

@joandonshaw - not sure if you missed a step or not.. did you shutdown your iPad and then restart? i too use a panasonic lumix camera.. 2 of them.. and i have used this to convert videos from each to work in iMovie.. give it another try with a small video to test.. good luck.

Simple solution is to upload video on YouTube, download the mp4, and then sync with iPad. This will work also for iMovie

Hi,

i was able to take my videos from my camcorder, convert it using the software, sync it to itune then edit it using imovies.....no problem.

few days later, when i went to sync more converted videos to itune...i get this error message:

"itune has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. window will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." one day it's working beautifully now it's not!! any idea?

@bvaldez98 - I haven't seen that error before with iTunes.. but. i did a quick search and what they say is to remove Quicktime and then reinstall.. checkout apple's forums and search for that error + itunes.. you will see dozens of threads.. good luck..

update, I did get it to work. found it with the videos. I was looking under the photos. But under the photos tab where the new ipad video folder we created is all my photo are now not there. any ideas?

@jmat0690 - just read both of your comments.. im not sure what happened.. if you had pictures on there before you did this then make sure in itunes you still have your picture folder shared.. if you remove it then sync.. it will remove your pictures.. try and see and let me know.. thanks for watching..

It didn't work for me. I tried it twice to make sure all the setting were right. my original format is mov files. not sure this makes a differences. I see the folder in my ipad but when i click on it there is no video there. help?

I am wondering if there is another setting besides the ones shown. My Canon PowerShot SD1400IS videos won't work. I am forced to drop the .MOV file into library and then make an Apple TV version. After that move to photo folder works. Any ideas?

Hey Dave, how do you remove the original audio for your voice over videos? Can you do this in imovie for ipad 2 or do you have to do this somewhere else first?

@tehKettyBear - you can do this directly in iMovie.. just turn the audio down to 0.. then you can record your own voice over like i always do using iMovie.. you can also move it around.. shorten it.. etc.. just like you would a video clip.. works great..

@LK0124 - Ok.. try a video again.. just one.. and make sure you have the settings exactly like I do.. I have done this with a bunch of videos.. if you look at my Ipad treegloo, portenzo, portenzo 23.5, all were done just like this and edited in iMovie on iPad.

For some reason I could not get it to work. I put converted video in in my photos, did the sync with the ipad which went fine with no errors but when I go to camera roll there no new video there. Any sugestions?

@Mason5464 - first off double check your settings.. if those are correct.. make sure to close iMovie then turn off your iPad and restart it.. sometimes i have to restart my iPad before they appear in camera roll.. I am still using this method and if you look at my videos.. the last 3 Moleskine reviews were edited in iMovie on my iPad..

@skinvig - make sure to close iMovie and then restart your ipad and then check again.. every one i did thats what i did if it didnt appear in there.. if not double check the settings.

oh my holy gosh! lol I just tried it for the first time at it WORKS! I honestly cant believe it. I feel like i owe u money and a dinner. lol. Thats how gratefull i am.
