  • God, I love this girl!!!

  • Imagine being a 13 year old boy and seeing her perform this while standing just in front of the stage... She was really powerful as a performer back then and the most memorable act that night.

  • I don't think it was specifically written for Jackie.

  • здорово

  • bruceeee

  • Written By Sonny Bono And Jack Nitche

I might not have spelled Jack's Name

The Man was the best at his job.

Now and Sonny are working with God's Music in Heaven.

    Great listing.

Jackie Thank you for Walk in this Room

and that night on The last days of KRLA 1100am

  • Ramones forever!!!!!!!!!!!

  • YEAH HAHA AWEOMSe!!

  • Are you sure about that?

  • 5 stars now

  • I voted three times, but still no 5 stars.

  • @doru001

No, I am sure that the first version I heard was the Searchers. And it was written by Sonny Bono and Jack Nitzsche. Later he had his wife Cher record a version of this which I have on my Cher solo album. There

is also a version of Cher doing it on youtube.

  • awesome. great long lost vid. they had fun

  • this is ancient!

  • I was in the 8th grade in this time frame. 1966, summer of, dick clark show, LA CA.

Just great to listen and even watch........those were the good times when life was completely different, and laid back.

  • so, this songs appears at the beggining of some megadeth song, does any body know what thats about?

  • the searchers' version appears on the song "use the man" by megadeth, in their 1997 cryptic writings album.

  • what year was this played???? dick clark show???

  • It aired in 1966.

  • Quem é a mocinha que canta isso ?

    Muito bom,só conhecia com ramones.

  • Absolute Classic ! Thanks for the post !

  • uiaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa massa brasil.

  • From the TV show "Here the Action Is".

  • WoW

  • Nossa, joey ramone tava gata.

  • the searchers did not write this song they also did not release the first version it was jackie deshannon in fact it was written for her so now you know

  • Not only was this song written for Jackie and sung by her, but the other big hit for the Searchers "When you walk in the room" was written by Jackie Deshannon and again first sung by her.

    Regards.

  • wonderful .......thanks

  • my dad always played this song when I was a kid, it's now one of my favorites. even though I'm 28, the music from this is the best.

  • This song was written for Jackie De Shannon, no-one recorded it before her. She was the original and still the best.

  • thanks i didnt know if it was her or the searchers

  • who was the original

  • I also i wish i were there XD

  • Jackie is a gr8 songwriter and performer...

gr8 version of this Sonny Bono tune...Jackie wrote 'Walk in the room'...never knew she sang 2 songs that The Searchers also covered, as well as writing one of them..very underrated performer.

  • She is pretty terrific.

She also wrote 'Bette Davis Eyes' No.1 hit for Kim Carnes, as well as many others.

    A formidable lady!

  • Wish I were there!!! Bandis!

  • The video is from a show called "Where the action is" that ran from 1965 to 1967. It aired in the afternoons. By '66 it was decidedly behind the times. Jackie DeShannon is lip-syncing, not live.

  • hha fuckin unbelievable heh the picture is poor but the experience is very very goooooooooooood nice job

  • how old is this video?

  • This video is probably from 1966. The actual single was a minor hit for Jackie DeShannon in 1963.

  • i like all the versions of this song i have heard, obviously the ramones dug her and that's why they covered it... let it just be what it is! not everything has to be compared to who had the #1 hit ,jeeeeesssshh

  • This was only blunt...it would be more funny if all the girls ran on the scene with guitars and the boys sat and clapped their hands.

  • Fuckin hell this vid aged a bit fast hasn`t it.

  • who wrote this song? I've heard it done by the ramones

  • I dedicate this song to Caprice Bourett. Or should I say Maxinne Carrprice?

  • ce fripta!

  • How cute.

  • God i love it, great video

  • When i look these oldies videos I often wonder if the people who are around the singer are still alive, don't you?

Anyway I prefer the Del Shannon version.

  • hey-ho lets go!

  • OMG I adore her! Notice how dead pan so many other wbite female singers are in their live performances compared to the perky and upbeat Jackie. LOVE HER! Thanks for the post!

  • i want to go back to the 60's !

  • cher's version is on imperial records "all i really want to do". i have an emi compilation "the best of cher" (1990).

  • i have cher's take on this with sonny offering advice. cher is adequate, without spirit.

  • OMG, this is so cute.

    I can remember those days.

As I was watching this I was thinking how today everything is so slick and over produced.

    It was very different then.

    (I must be getting old.)

  • del shannon also has a nice version.and lets not forget the ramones

  • Searchers and Jackie DeShannon recorded this (her first); never by Sonny and Cher! :) Thanks.

  • Sonny Bono and Jack Nitzsche did write Needles and Pins Ms. DeShannon recorded it in 1963. Sonny and Cher never recorded it. DeShannon's version was heard by Cliff Bennet & the Rebel Rousers (a British band) and then The Searchers reinvented it and the rest is history. Great song!

  • It was recorded by Cher, I have heard it. However, I'm not sure if it was released at the time. Before Cher starts to sing, you can hear Sonny going ...badada-dada... Maybe it was just a demo.

  • Jackie rules!

  • the searchers version was MUCH better

  • Really got to disagree with you there. The Searchers version misses the point of the song - the big emotional punch at the end of the bridge - that moment's silence before "Because I saw him today"

  • Ijameiovs. It is strange how different opinions can be. I personally think that Jackie puts hardly any emotion into this joking, dancing and handclapping version.

  • Well in this clip she is lip-sincing to the record, not actually singing - so yes she is goofing around, clapping her hands and smiling and not really selling the song. But (in my opinion) if you compare the two recorded versions she sings the hell out of the thing - makes the Searchers version seem kind of pale in comparison.

  • I disagree. The Searchers' original 1964 version carries the most emotional impact. And to prove my point: who had the biggest hit with the song? The Searchers of course. #1 in the UK, #13 USA.

  • We'll have to disagree on that. But the Searchers' version is not the original. The song was written by Jack Nitzsche & Sonny Bono and Jackie's version was out earlier in 1964. Jackie co-wrote When You Walk in the Room. & the fact that the Searchers sold more doesn't prove they were better now does it?

  • Yeah, yeah, yeah. The Searchers' hit No. 1 with "Needles and Pins". Nobody else did.

  • so what? many people would regard the ramones version as the one that most affected my generation. charts don't mean a thing. a song like this that is done over and over by so many artists means that it's a good song- and each version is relevant as long as someone enjoys it.

  • so what? many people would regard the ramones version as the one that most affected my generation. charts don't mean a thing. a song like this that is done over and over by so many artists means that it's a good song- and each version is relevant as long as someone enjoys it. to me, the searchers version is very pop, whereas the smokie & ramones versions much grittier, more rock n roll. i prefer the latter.

  • Even bringing in Phil Spector couldn't give The Ramones a hit. Why? The singer didn't have a radio friendly voice, simple as that. Too rough around the edges.

  • Totally agree! This is one of the best songs I know but the Ramones srewed it. A pitty that they coverd this song. I also prefer the version of the searchers, the song played by smokie is the seccond best.

  • Sonny Bono was a song writer in the Brill Building before Snny and Cher

  • great footage first time ive seen it thanks for it

  • A true classic. Very cool..

  • This is my absolute favorite version of this song-Jackie's just so adorable. Though, I'm pretty sure that this wasn't performed live. I don't think any of the performers on "Where the Action Is!" sang live.

  • Great memories for the song but never saw the video before - great

  • Wow. This is my first time to hear the original verion of "Needles and pins". It was great!

  • The original was Sonny & Cher. The song was written by Sonny Bono and Jack Nitzsche.

  • As a Jackie DeShannon expert could I please inform that she was the original recording artist of this song. In fact Jack Nitzsche wrote it for her.
