I think this move is better than citizen kane. Sure Citizen kane has brilliant cinematography, but i think that is why people rate it so highly, because it was ahead of its time. So for me its overrated, infact i think strange love it better.
Me and Roxie LOVE this movie!! We watch it every day and love everything about it - from the dialogue to the lighting, the staging of the war room set and George C Scott in it, Sterling Hayden's close ups with cigar smoke, his awesome shooting skills with the gun and bullet belt he kept in his golf club bag, the terrific accent and attitude of Major Kong (Slim Pickens) all three roles Peter Sellers plays:Mandrake, the President and Dr Strangelove...This is my favorite black comedy of all time!!
The great part of this movie is that it might as well be a documentary. The only parody might have been that the pilot was wearing a cowboy hat, but I've seen equally outlandish things in my time on the other side. Now only 1% of the population serves in the military and even less that that in a direct role so much of what makes this movie great is lost on the audience.
There was this Twilight Zone episode where this woman could stop time. And she stops time when the Soviet Union shot a missle to us. And in the background you could see 'Dr.Strangelove' on a movie theatre sign. Wierd huh?
Look up in the sky it's Julien Assange being delivered to the USA a Dr Strangelove remake.Jules Strange Attractor are all in the physics dictionary S-drops up down physics stuff.
love this movie.it's awesome from start to finish.peter sellers, george c. scott and sterling hayden are great. i can watch this movie over and over again !
This is one of the weirdest movies I have seen (of which there are several) and this one is the best of the weird that I am proud to own. Despite all its weirdness, there was method (and in a weird way, sense) to it all. This trailer, though, does not do a good job of preparing people for the movie. Two totally different directions of comedy. It's like going to see Steven King's Children of a Lesser God (good movie, too) and expecting a horror movie (which it is absolutely not).
Kubrick = genius! The man was a class of his own, he made 90% of other film directors look like factory process workers who got behind a camera by mistake.
@straker2 I havent seen this movie ,but I loved A clockwork orange and Full Metal Jacket. If this and all his other movies are as good then he is undeniably the best director ever.
@BLACKSABBATH0HM I think the 8 movies he made after directing Spartacus for Kirk Douglas are all very good movies, brilliantly made and concieved with enormous care and attention to detail. There's a lot of different styles in them, but they all contain themes of humans undone by human folly, failure and obsessions. The last seven of the eight are so good, I'm hard pressed to say which one is better than the others. They all rock in their own ways. But 2001 amazes me most!
@straker2 Yeah ive heard of that one. He seems to have made a lot of famous movies that ive heard of but havent seen. Is 2001 like a sort of metaphorical type movie with symbolic imagery that brings a message?
@BLACKSABBATH0HM Well, yes, but only at the end, really. It starts off with a segment that takes place when humans were still like ape men. They're getting pwned by leopards and other apes and then a weird alien object appears and it changes them or affects them and they learn to use bones and weapons to kick ass. In 2001, the same alien object is found on the Moon and a space probe goes to find where it came from. When they find it, weird stuff happens. The FX and music are poetic in a way.
@straker2 Yeah I just found out its where that famous epic type tune came from. Sounds pretty badass for a G rated movie. Kinda reminds me of Fantastic Planet though I doubt theyre any bit alike lol.

@MrHyperPeanut dude I didn't get anything, all of a sudden that really though general starts talking about fluids... the german in the wheelchair in the end... dunno. the only funny thing was when that guy sat on the bomb
@Iamcola65 the "fluids" theme (and a lot of the film in general) you are talking about is a parody of cold war paranoia. the general is obessed by the idea that the russians are somehow affecting the purity of good natural american bodily fluids by fluoridating the water. if it's not your thing then it's not your thing, but personally this is my favourite comedy of all time.

The Idea of "what would happen if the wrong person were in charge of pushing the button" became very real when there was a chance Palin was going to be vice-president.

My cousin Mary Jo has pretty good taste in movies.. she likes good stuff like Waterworld, Battlefield Earth, The Seed of Chucky, etc.. so when I asked her for movie recommendations she told me to check out Dr. Strangelove. I was hesitant to watch this because it's so old but I decided to give it a shot. What a mistake!! People who pass this off as a "comedy" are ridiculous, as this movie was VERY unfunny. It wasn't even in colour, the characters were boring and there was way too much dialogue.
@robinzhooded Then why in the world are you even in here if you didn't like the movie? Why waste your time commenting? You wouldn't know a quality movie if it walked up to you and introduced itself as such. Go watch your cheap horror, and bathroom-humor movies. By the way, a movie doesn't have to be in color to be great.
FUCK YOU ARE THE REASON FILMS HAVE BECOME HOLLYWOOD!!!!!!!!!!! - filmwork used to be an art with such artistict and visonary iindividuals as stanley kubrick, but of course like every artwork, someone just wants to make money out of it, and than the birth of hollywood occured... the film industry will collapse because of this and out of these ashes will rise a new orson welles, but for now cinema is in ruins with only a handful of good films being made every now and again. fuck you
@PaulVonHindenberg hmmm well first you shoud study the traditional greek theatre as that forms the basis of the dramtic arts, than study the history of films, especially look at their progress and how they came to be. by now you will have a firm understanding of film history. now as for hollywood, i couldnt care less about reinventing it; i would prefer that film makers simply gain a greater understanding of films. but thankyou for your thoughts friend. :)
@riflemanftw Why not? it is, prehaps, the greatest comedy film of all time and one of Stanley Kubrick's greatest pictures. Though, most of his films are great.
It's sad that movies like this wouldn't do well these days. Most people need explosions to keep their interest. Well, technically this movie does have a lot of big explosions, but.... well you know what I mean!
I think this move is better than citizen kane. Sure Citizen kane has brilliant cinematography, but i think that is why people rate it so highly, because it was ahead of its time. So for me its overrated, infact i think strange love it better.

hgs777 1 year ago
@robinzhooded Then why in the world are you even in here if you didn't like the movie? Why waste your time commenting? You wouldn't know a quality movie if it walked up to you and introduced itself as such. Go watch your cheap horror, and bathroom-humor movies. By the way, a movie doesn't have to be in color to be great.

FUCK YOU ARE THE REASON FILMS HAVE BECOME HOLLYWOOD!!!!!!!!!!! - filmwork used to be an art with such artistict and visonary iindividuals as stanley kubrick, but of course like every artwork, someone just wants to make money out of it, and than the birth of hollywood occured... the film industry will collapse because of this and out of these ashes will rise a new orson welles, but for now cinema is in ruins with only a handful of good films being made every now and again. fuck you

Yes please teach us how to reinvent Hollywood oh great "Doggie-I use caps to make me sound smart bombom"
PaulVonHindenberg 1 year ago

I would love it if someone did a remake of this film. I know it wouldn't probably top the original, but still, it would be nice.
Gi1BrO 1 year ago
@Gi1BrO Why? If it wouldn't be as good as the original, why bother with a remake? Just watch the original.
hitchhikersguide2 1 year ago
@hitchhikersguide2 I watched it and I thought it was great. I just think it would be interesting if someone did a modern version of it

I red somewhere that it was the first voiceover job for legendary Don La Fontaine, the late voiceover master.

It's sad that movies like this wouldn't do well these days. Most people need explosions to keep their interest. Well, technically this movie does have a lot of big explosions, but.... well you know what I mean!
