@THManchesterMoon Obama is a supporter, but is also trying to be fair to the Republicans. After all, since the Republicans control a good portion of Congress, Obama has to be as fair as possible on the gay issues so that he can get his other bills passed. This is my argument: Obama isn't struggling on whether gay marriage should be legal. He's struggling over how strongly he should politically back up gay rights.

@THManchesterMoon The thing is, everything he does has to be cleared by Congress. Every single thing he tries to get passed, it's ultimately up to them. At the end of the day, they're in charge, not him. I'm sure he would have made it legal long ago but there are so many steps to get through.

@THManchesterMoon Like you said, you don't live in the States, so the rules here are undoubtedly different than the ones from where you reside. Congress is, again, ultimately in charge of what passes and what doesn't. That's why our country is so fucked. Whomever is in office, the opposing party takes up most of Congress thus making it difficult to see eye to eye. Obama has already legalised same-sex marriage in eight states, I believe, and it can't be done all at once.

My opinion is different. I think the way the Republican candidates fight like children is ridiculous, the way they push their religious agenda down our throats is wrong and midieval, and they way they actually think gay marriage belongs in a discussion while we have REAL problems is absurd. However, I think think any of them is way better than Obama. Obama's followers believe in govt intervention way beyond what is right for this country, hence my reasoning.

I think you will find that explanation clearer. I am beyond frustrated, because I am a fiscal conservative and an advocate of limited government, but believe in personal choice and rights (i.e. Libertarian). I've always felt like there should be no issue in allowing to people (may they be gay or straight) into a legal union. We promote freedom in this country yet do do the opposite by denying people there rights because of some ideological belief.

@ramo50ful Religion does not have a monopoly on marriage. It is now and has always been a legal contract that we recently have begun to attach love to. Religions just administered them for a part of our history, just like they used to administer all forms of health care and education. That doesn't mean that the non-religious shouldn't learn or go to the doctor because those who used to ritualize these things disagree with something about us.

There's a tremendous difference between being black and being homosexual. One's ethnicity is not the same as one's sexuality. It's highly offensive to compare a form of sexual perversion to being black. If someone is a homosexual, they don't need to bring ethnicity into the debate. The two aren't even close...and there are other things more suitable to compare it to than to slander blacks with unwarranted comparisons.

Congress is, again, ultimately in charge of what passes and what doesn't. That's why our country is so fucked. Whomever is in office, the opposing party takes up most of Congress thus making it difficult to see eye to eye. I think the way the Republican candidates fight like children is ridiculous, the way they push their religious agenda down our throats is wrong and midieval, and they way they actually think gay marriage belongs in a discussion while we have REAL problems is absurd. However, I think think any of them is way better than Obama. Obama's followers believe in govt intervention way beyond what is right for this country, hence my reasoning.

I've always felt like there should be no issue in allowing to people (may they be gay or straight) into a legal union. We promote freedom in this country yet do do the opposite by denying people there rights because of some ideological belief.
In the matter of religous cermony, i believe it goes against there beliefs and we should respect that. I think the more we seperate church and state the better off we will be.

The irritating thing is that politicians make such an attempt to give no opinion at all and remain "on good, voting terms" with everyone that you're not really voting for a candidate anymore. "Your wives are a garment for you, and you are a garment for them." (2:187) So a husband and wife complete each other - each one takes on a new aspect of their humanity. "He himself created the pair, male and female." (Qur'an 53:45)...In Islam women are not considered immoral, there status is elevated compared to other religions.

Islam gave women rights with regards to marriage, divorce, civil rights, legal status, dress code, and education. Islam elevated the status of women and says they are equal to men. It might surprise you what the Quran says about women. In the Quran it says heaven lies at the feet of your mother.

@ramo50ful Religion does not have a monopoly on marriage. It is now and has always been a legal contract that we recently have begun to attach love to. Religions just administered them for a part of our history, just like they used to administer all forms of health care and education. That doesn't mean that the non-religious shouldn't learn or go to the doctor because those who used to ritualize these things disagree with something about us.

There's a tremendous difference between being black and being homosexual. One's ethnicity is not the same as one's sexuality. It's highly offensive to compare a form of sexual perversion to being black. If someone is a homosexual, they don't need to bring ethnicity into the debate. The two aren't even close...and there are other things more suitable to compare it to than to slander blacks with unwarranted comparisons.
