WOW! My Husband was an apprentice painter there years ago - his brother was a painter. My Husband's nephew-in-law, Alan Cooper, was working there when it closed. He told us about the pension fund, and like stevieg8sblues' Father, has received nothing. Until recently, he and his wife lived in one of the row cottages above the mill on Heytop. He took us on a 'tour' of the outside. Thank You for sharing -very eerie.....
Thanks for sharing this video - its sad to see, I visited this site as a student from Bury Tec in the early 80`s I also work in the paper industry. I have heard all about the robbing Indians using the pension fund to feather their own nests
As stated previously, the pension fund was used to subsidise other buisness ventures in India to be payed back a zero percent interest, unfortunately trustees are still waiting today for their money to be payed back, which includes my father who worked there for 30+ years.Shame the land is still not been put to good use.I worked there for 8 years and left just before it shut.
The knockon effect was felt all over the local area. I drove HGV for a nearby haulage company that relied on Fletchers, Tanners and others all are gone now just fucking houses that nobody wants or can afford. WE ARE JUST SHIT ON.
Very sad, but brought back a lot of great memories - I was the Sales and Admin Manager there for some time before moving to Australia - the mill was filled with great people, usually sons, daughters, and grandchildren of many before them - a wonderful place to work. Does anyone know why it closed?
It was bought out by an Arab that ran off with the pension funds and thought he could sell the land for housing. ps One of my family worked there 44years!!!

Weird how everything was still there. The computers, the notes, the pictures on the walls. It's like it was just abandoned on the spot.

Why did it close? What's the truth? The power is still on which is very odd...makes you think the workers are coming back at any moment.
