hey bro...thanks for this..i was like, how do you get the lights like that! I like lights too..haha...thanks! learned about some of the different things i can do with this pedal! Blessings!
Also, don't forget to properly power this pedal. If you don't have a DC brick at least use a seperate one-spot or you will experience noise issues. Don't daisy chain it with other high drawing pedals. So many people dogged on this pedal as being noisy, it's one of the most quiet ones out there if properly powered.
So when you change the outputs, like A being dry and B being wet as an example, is that for the base setting for the pedal in general, or is it only whatever preset you're on?
I got mine directly from VoodooMan Switches on eBay. VoodooMan is a small operation and they make switches for just about anything (amps, etc.). Try them first. Remember, you're looking for a Boss FS-5U (unlatching) custom replacement.
is it ok to have both pedals? dd-20 and re-20 echo.. cause many people keep saying that the dd-20 has the can produce the same effects as re-20 pedal.. awesome video!
I certainly think it's okay to have both the DD-20 and RE-20! They both get an equal amount of use, but for different delay/echo effects. I made a video specifically showing the two side by side, look it up! "Boss DD-20 GigaDelay Vs. Boss RE-20 Space Echo".
I got this pedal really cheap 4 years ago as a package deal with my Mesa Boogie, and I have never used or understood all of the features (I wanted the DD3 but the store was out and they gave me this one for $125 w/ my amp). This video was awesome. I never knew about the LED settings. Those little lights get to be hard to see on stage, which sometimes leads me to be in the wrong program. I am going to change my settings now! Thanks for the awesome video
hey man, great vid by the way. youve helped me make up my mind on what to get, just one quick question, you talk about wet and dry signals, what are these?
Thanks for the awesome vid. You helped me choose this pedal, and now I refer back to this vid frequently for reminders of how to make behind-the-scenes changes. Great demo.
Thanks for the awesome vid. You helped me choose this pedal, and now I refer back to this vid frequently for reminders of how to make behind-the-scenes changes. Great demo.
I like setting the memory bank lights to turning more lights on so you can see which memory bank it's set on if you're in the dark and can't base one lights position off of anything.
I have had this pedal for a long time, I still am learning about it, lol.
The thing I love about the Line6 DL4 is the insane feedback/distortion "loop" type effects it can produce. I notice this pedal has a "tape delay" setting, can the Giga Delay make those kind of sounds as well? Thanks very much.
@penguinrock bahhh. well it still seems like a solid delay. awesome review by the way, i ordered my DD20 a few weeks ago and once i get it i will be referring back to this video constantly.
I have a question: do you think it's a good idea buying this pedal if I haven't had any delay pedal before? I'm really interested in exploring all its possibilities, but I'm afraid it may be "too much" for a begginer.
The more work you put into learning and tweaking it, the more enjoyment you're going to wind up getting out of it. The DD-20 truly is more complicated than a standard delay, but the only thing holding you back from mastering it is you.
I have a question: o you think it's a good idea to buy this thing if I haven't had any delay pedal before? I'm afraid this may be "too much" for a starter, but on the other hand I prefer to spend my money in something that will last maybe for a lifetime, instead of buying some "more simple" pedal which would force me to get something like the DD-20 somewhere in the future. Furthermore, this unit looks great to get some otherworldly sounds and experiment around. (excuse my poor English)
Hey, I have a question, for the DD-20, when for the four different memory slots...can they be different "modes"? Meaning, could memory 1 be a reverse effect and memory 2 be a slap-back effect?
I have another question.I found a DD-20 at a music store nearby me barley used thats been there since 11/22/08 for $170. Is that a good deal or should i not trust that it will work correctly. I will be able to try it but what do you think?
$170 is a good price since the DD-20 typically goes for $230 brand new. (You can find them a little bit lower on eBay, though.) If it's a Boss, you should know it's nearly indestructible so don't worry about that.
I've got another video called "Showcasing My Guitar And Pedalboard/Effects" which shows everything I've got, but I'm not playing a whole lot in it. I keep a notebook where I write down ideas for videos. Once I get a [Moog EP-2] expression pedal, I'll be able to get about three more videos done. I've slowed down a bit on making videos, but I'm not done yet!
i was thinkin about getting one of these but the twist and the warp mode are the most useless delay modes every inventied. i decided to go with the digitech timebender instead and it has served me greatly!
I'm using Twist (I've got a new trick up my sleeve with that function in conjunction with another of my pedals!), but I agree that the Warp function is impractical. I haven't played with the DigiTech TimeBender; glad it's working out for you.
i agree that the DD-20 is much better than the Line 6 DL4 in every aspect. and i find the DD-20 to be much more user friendly and somewhat easier to grasp than the Timebender.
For example, Memory 1 can be saved as quarter-note with the digital tempo shown in milliseconds, and Memory 2 can be saved as eighth-note with tempo shown in BPM, etc.
I love the sound, of a delay on max feedback, and messing with the rate to get space ship noises! The EHX Memory Man w/ Hazarai can't do that! It makes this stupid stuttering effect.....how well do you feel this emulates an analog pedal? And whilst in Loop mode, can you still use the delay modes? And one more if you wouldnt mind...You know on the DL4 you can record your loop reversed, then unreverse record etc? Can this do that?
Watch Part 2 of the video series I made, it shows the Analog mode of the pedal.
The Part 2 video also explains in detail how the Sound-On-Sound (looper) works. Yes, you can use a delay mode, but only after recording a loop. The SOS function cannot do reverse or half-time like the DL4.
Overall, I still think the bigger bang for the buck goes to the DD-20.
I did actually yesterday, think I'll just get individual delay/looper...Seymour Duncans Deja Vu looks interesting. I just love the sound of self oscillating delays and messing with the sample, slowing it down, speeding it up, and it seems only analog delays do that well. I've found the DL4 and the DD20 still sound too much like its emulating a delay.
bro trust me, the DD-20 doesnt emulate anything, I own one and it is hands down the most lush an ambient delay I've ever owned, extremely cheap for what it can do, nearly everything
1/4-inch stereo input/output. I'm mostly unfamiliar with DJ gear, I would assume you'd run the output from your mixer into this before sending it to an amp/board.
Quick question, what is that pedal that you are using for tap? I know Boss FS-5U is about $30 but I'm searching around for cheaper/smaller momentary footswitches. Just curious as to what you are using / where can it be found?
It's a custom FS-5U replacement by VoodooMan Switches, which I think is just a one-man operation. I got mine for something like 19 bucks on eBay (24 after shipping), but it runs for 30 on their ("his"?) website, look it up.
Hi , i have a questions about its looper mode(sos) 1st : I know that there is maximum 23sec of loop recording ... That means you can record only one layer if you use all 23 sec on this layer ?
2nd: When loop is playing can you switch to another mode and play over it using other delay modes ? I want to use live looping and delay , but dont have enough money to buy two separate effects , so im triying to find some pedal that can do both at the same time =)))
The DD-7, of course, will have less control features than the DD-20. The DD-7's Modulate mode doesn't let you change its parameters like the DD-20 does. The Analog and Reverse modes on both pedals seem to be the same. How much control do you need? How much space do you have on your pedalboard? Are you willing to shell out $230 for a DD-20, or $170 for the DD-7? These are things you'll have to consider on your own. Both are excellent.
You can toggle the memory mode lights to turn on consecutively (one light, then two lights, three lights, four), or you can have it set for individual lighting (#1, #2, etc.).
"True Bypass" means that, when the pedal is turned off, your guitar signal is not at all being affected by the electronics inside. This has to do with the kind of switch used; it is typically a TPDT (triple-pull, double-throw) that can do this. Boss pedals use FET's for switching, and are not true bypass. To test, simply unplug a pedal completely from its power source (AC adapter or battery), and see if the guitar signal will go through. There are advantages and disadvantages to each.
Rock on, dude! Eventually I will have demos for all of my gear done (I'm averaging one every week by now), so check back with my channel to see what's new! Thanks.
