i play oboe to its really broken down bcuz its a school oboe and ive been playing for like 6 months and im really hoping to learn the mario theme song. Great job and how long did it take to learn it plz right bak
@shmoo911 cause wer're ninja like that. thats why :) also our faces sometimes get reallllly red when we play, sigh maybe that's why we get selfconcious
nice jobbbbbb... but ya dude... never EVER leave the oboe standing with out a stand, especially with the reed... not too long ago i did that the day before a huge concert, my oboe fell and the reed broke. guess what i didnt get to play in?
I admit, you are decent on oboe. The only thing is...(I am looking at the music for this...) you dont hold some of the notes long enough, and others you hold waaay too long. Slow down a bit all of they way so that you dont have to slow down at only some parts. Otherwise, good job!
ive been playing my oboe for 2 months, and its makes me terrified to see you put your oboe on the ground because of how and expensive it is and the reed, but otherwise good job! Wish I could play it
I'm not jealous... I actually play both the clarinet and the oboe, but if anyone disses any instrument (including ones I don't play) it actually makes me angry.
not the best oboe sound but pretty good compared to all the other vids (and much better than me since this is my first day and I feel like my b is a #$%^ whore wreck so congratz on that '_'
@thedarkfairy707 Medium if you want to start somewhere a little less challenging. I usually use Medium and I sound pretty good.
The hardness of the reed, however, isn't what makes the instrument sound good. If anything, it just helps it stand up you your embouchure. An ideal oboe reed should actually give a bit, so you can adjust the pitch better.
@TofuJamOut I agree with you. Even though I've been playing the oboe for less than a year, the moment I saw that reed on that oboe, I freaked out. Seriously, thoses reeds are EXPENSIVE! Please don't do that again. It's just scary. And it's awesome! I'll try to do that one day :)
i play oboe for 4 years, and i really like it.. i can play all kinds of music, if you want i can record some and post them for you to watch.. i dont have a camera but a microphone so ill add some pics to make it interesting
wow people are so rude, you did great. I am one of two oboists at my school and you kicked some butt at that song. oboe is hard, so what if it wasnt in tune. playing in tune is ten times harder than just learning the songs and notes takes years and years.
All I can say is that it's good, but sit up straight with great posture, and do not buy store bought reeds, they sound horrible, and are made from machine (I found a crack in a couple of mine when I bought it) buy ones that someone hand makes, they sound wonderful.
so im assuming that you've only been playing for like.... 8 months? judging by tone quality and precision. and the fact that you left your oboe standing up leaning on the chair....with the reed in the oboe. so maybe even less than 8 months because of that. I play oboe too and im going into my 3rd year. please never ever do that. it frightens me so much when i see it. good job though. :)
@TofuJamOut I've played Oboe seven years, going on eight. And yeah, the best place for the reed really is in your mouth or in your reed cup. Those are expensive, you know.
im playing clarinet but i like te sound of oboe. Do you know what your instrument is tuned it? like Bb or E# or something like that? does your left pinky get assigned 3 keys and your right pinky 4 keys?
@waterwolf121 Well ok. If your horn is equipped with a left F key then you should most def use regular F and of course left F, the reason is forked F has a horrible tone and the tuning is almost always off. The only exception is on English horn - for some reason it sounds better. However, if you do not have a left F then you have no choice but to use Forked F. It is also good oboe technique to use reg and forked fingerings.
@MidnightKat5000 It's also very difficult to shift between the Forked F and some fingerings. I actually resent learning the Forked F as my primary F fingering because now it's messed me up and I can't use much else without forcing myself. :(
But yeah, if your oboe has the capability, USE THE LEFT OR RIGHT F. Which one you actually use depends on the key of the song and what note you're switching to.
@waterwolf121 I find Forked easier, but it would be to your benefit to learn the Left and Right Fs IF your oboe has the capability. Look at yours. Does it have a little key below the second key on the bottom? Press the upper three, first two on the bottom, and that little key for the Right F. Look at the cluster of keys next to the bottom-upper key. If there's another slender key over it, press first three top, bottom first two, and that slender key for a Left F.
Yeah, it can do it and I've learned it, I just always used Forked F when I was learning, so I kinda got used to it :P But when it's easier to use regular F, I do :)
its christmas so merry christmas and i got a brand new oboe and 5 reeds
its goin good so far

AHHH FORKED F?!? HAS THE WORLD GONE MAD!
Work on tone and what kind of reed do you use? soft? med. soft? if so you should use a harder reed it makes the quality (tone) sooo much better.
I used med. soft for 2 yrs. then i used hard and it got sooooooo much better
