Both great cars. GT-R benchmark from beginning was to beat Porsche Turbo. They had a porsche turbo with them at all testing events. They did not release the car until they knew it could better the Porsche, especially tiptronic. Porsche was taken by surprise and brought their game back in 2010 with PDK, new awd, and more power. This was not a fair fight. Still,Both great cars, but regardless of track times, Porsche owners will remain with Porsche. GT-R owners... well, we will see in time.

Furthermore, the 997 can't make a smooth tight corner like the GT-R. As you can clearly see the 997 unable to make the tight corner at the same speed as the GT-R.
the Porsche is a far better car, the 997 turbo weighs far less than the GTR and has more power so either the cars arent stock or this isnt a 997 turbo because on the long straight the GTR pulled away which should not have happened
@mugengaia the only advantage the GTR has is it costs significantly less, the driver of the Porsche was horrible ive never seen anyone slide a Porsches rear end out like that unintentionally, in terms of quality the Porsche has it hands down, but i was referring to the straight away where both cars where traveling straight and the GTR continued to pull (which physically cant happen with these stock cars)

Since the GTR clearly won, does this mean Porsche should put the engine in the front since it did "powerslides"? If it did, maybe it would be worse off since it would just cost so much money in R&D. Anyway, it is certain that 997 turbo is slower than Nissan GT-R because Nissan GT-R is faster than Porsche's flagship Carerra GT at the Top Gear test track. As you know, Carerra GT has a V10 620ps engine. Incidentally, GT-R's lap time is 1.19.7; Carerra GT's is 1.19.8.
Because Nissan with the buy of the GT_R gives you a book with a set for some tracks like fuji and Nordschleife and Porsche tested it with no set (how it comes) and all sets in R mode

Just watch from 1:15- 1:25 , you can clearly see and hear how bad the 997 handles.
The 997 is skidding like crazy and you can hear the tires screaching.
Furthermore, the 997 can't make a smooth tight corner like the GT-R. As you can clearly see the 997 unable to make the tight corner at the same speed as the GT-R.

the Porsche is a far better car, the 997 turbo weighs far less than the GTR and has more power so either the cars arent stock or this isnt a 997 turbo because on the long straight the GTR pulled away which should not have happened

This isn't a drag race. This is on a circuit.
A car coming out of the corner faster will allow shorter clutching, thus a significant difference in overall speed.
Especially since the 997 Turbo vs. GT-R isn't the equivalent of a Veyron vs. GT-R.
GT-R and 997 Turbo are on a similar class.
But for the money, the GT-R is outstanding compared to the 997 Turbo.
Actually, for the money, there isn't a better car than the GT-R.

@mugengaia the only advantage the GTR has is it costs significantly less, the driver of the Porsche was horrible ive never seen anyone slide a Porsches rear end out like that unintentionally, in terms of quality the Porsche has it hands down, but i was referring to the straight away where both cars where traveling straight and the GTR continued to pull (which physically cant happen with these stock cars)

Making over 457hp of power and 444lbft of torque at the wheels the dyno estimated peak power at the engine was 520bhp @ 6617 rpm. This is extremely impressive considering that Nissan has rated the engine good for just 473hp

Firstly, the Nissan's driver is a Nissan test driver, and he knows the car like nobody, he help to make it! On the other hand, the other driver probably drive that Porsche for the first time on his life... Besides we can't know how much he has pushed the car... In fact the challenge is on a Japanese circuit, with Japanese drivers and a Japanese winner car... I don't say that the Gt-r is slower than the Porsche, but this challenge can't show the truth...

Since the GTR clearly won, does this mean Porsche should put the engine in the front since it did "powerslides"? If it did, maybe it would be worse off since it would just cost so much money in R&D. I guess this is why Porsche avoids massive changes in its 45 year-old basic "beetle" design and why it would rather have practical changes which improves performance overtime. This is what makes the Porsche a little more interesting, eventhough the GTR may be "more bang for the buck".

You're right. The program is not fair as opposed to Top Gear. Anyway, it is certain that 997 turbo is slower than Nissan GT-R because Nissan GT-R is faster than Porsche's flagship Carerra GT at the Top Gear test track. As you know, Carerra GT has a V10 620ps engine. Incidentally, GT-R's lap time is 1.19.7; Carerra GT's is 1.19.8.

I'd like to see a rematch with the latest 998 with PDK. Tiptronic was just not a good transmission match.
In any case, from what I've read, they're both superb driving machines with impeccable manners...you just can't go wrong with either.

I do love porsches but i'm impressed with GTR's performance.. both amazing cars! on the streets? really don't know, never had any of them! that thing you've said about the brake getting hot is something to consider, because the real world is nothing like a race track.. and I have to say that again: both are examples of amazing engineering ;)

You listen to too much things about old 911 and their particularity with the rear engine! For more than 10 years now, the minor problems have been canceled! The rear engine give better traction, a better braking, a very precise and light steering, less losing in the drivetrain....drive one a day ans speak AFTER!
