I seriously do not see the point in cross breeding lions with tigers when we're not even capable of taking care of the lions and tigers that we already have. They'll be gone before we know it and all we'll have left is this, which is not even sure to live long and be able to breed properly.

I wonder if they live shorter lives because of their size. I imagine that must be the reason they don't exist in the wild. The deceased wrestler Andre the giant got so big because of a condition that didn't allow him to stop growing and he only lived to be 44 because of it. His doctors had said 40. We also know with dogs that larger breeds don't live as long.

there's actually a diffrent between Liger and Tigon, tigon is when mom is the tiger and father is the lion (if not opposite, dont remember very well but please correct me if im wrong)

and when the mom is the lion and the father is the tiger its Liger

Yes, they are gorgeous, but nothing good can come from fucking around with nature and genetics. Many times a hybrid will inherit the worst traits of both lines, then man kills them because they have become too "dangerous". That's messed up and just wrong-

@rikohio1 from what i understand when it first happend it was an accident from having a lion male and a tiger female in the same incloser they didnt know it could happen and the liger was born and was fine just like any other big cat just really huge. and any big cat is dangerous. this one just happend to be created. but the first on came "naturaly" which is one reason there not found in the wild is these two animals simply aren't around each other so no gene manipulation :) no offense

@gqunit69 there were big cats of this variation in the past - where breeding sub-species of animals came together - but their development and competitive survivability was flawed. When I see a Liger I see a predator who is going to be hampered massively by its size. It's all-well-and-good having mass and powerful jaws etc but if he can't catch the food with the most sustaining protiens to sustain his giant appetite he'd die in the wild. Beautiful abbaration, sadly.

obviously the two offshoots of the big cat family (tigers and lions) are activating perhaps a dormant gene that happens to revert them back to their pre-evolved size as sabertooths. The fact is that relatively dormant or inactive genes can become activated if they have two pairs meet up during mating, so maybe the fact that tigers and lions when mating with their own species don't so much have a "size limiting gene" but rather an incomplete gene that happened to be beneficial (being smaller).
