I'm not originally from Florence, but I live here now and I always wondered what it used to look like and considering I wasn't even born in the time period this video gives me a great deal of perspective..I enjoy this alot.It seems so innocent and clean back then, when people actually talked to you even if they didn't know you!!haha.I'm a fan of this time period..
The building identified as Bruce Hospital at the 0:15 mark in the video was Saunders Memorial Hospital and stood across the street from McClenaghan High School (formerly Florence High School). Bruce Hospital was a one story building located beside the high school.
this town has gone down ever since i was a kid im only 23 years old but it depresses me now when I was a kid it still seemed better than it is now, skyview burned to the ground, downtown is ghetto as hell "of course thats all ive ever known it as" but its true CRIME FILTH AND TRASH.
@urbansmoke I'm only 25 and I'm originally from a small "oil" town in Pennsylvania it's actually called Oil City. That place was actually bombing until the oil ran dry and so did the business and people..Thats probably why when you grow up in OC,you move away!haha..So I unerstand how u feel about Florence changing.I've been here only for 7 years and already ALOT has changed already,I've been noticing them cutting down ALOT of trees on the east side of Florence, kinda gives me a sickening feeling.
Something I should add... The worst thing ever done to/in Florence was when they demolished the old court house building and built that ugly 12 story monstrosity that is there now. It was in the early 70s when nobody cared about anything but "new" and modern looking shit. And I do mean shit.
I was born there. It was at one time a pretty nice town. It changed in the early 70's when the shopping malls arrived and the old downtown area actually did go "ghetto".
Idk, I might have been on East Side b/c I was driving back from Myrtle Beach. But really its not that bad compared to the projects in Atlanta. I live in Buckhead (Midtown) and poverty is unbelievable here. The majority of the projects were demolished this year so this marks a new beginning for Atlanta, Georgia :). Florence looks like it needs some help though, a bit of cooperation from the community and im sure it'll be a better place in no time.
Yes time changes everything, Atlanta is now becoming a national city, you have people from all over the world here now. I remember back in the mid 90's this place was nothing but trees and now theres skyscrapers, shopping malls, etc everywhere. It really takes away that hometown feeling :/. Smog over the city and traffic is so bad to the point where you movie a mile in 10-15 mins on a bad day with alot of traffic. Im thinking about getting outta here and move out to the west.
Florence is nothing BUT ghetto. Whole fucking slums. Black whores selling themselves all over the place at night and black guys standing beside the road pretending to talk on their phones while they actually sell drugs.
You have an absolutely distorted viewpoint, and that's likely because you've never lived anywhere else. Florence absolutely sucks.
@WeThrowPie There are just as many if not more whites doing the shit as blacks. So don't just point out blacks like they are the one's just making Florence a bad place. I've seen the whites sell the drugs and come buy the drugs from the black's, so i don't what Florence you live in.
I am 31 and still remember a few of these places. I remember the air museum as a kid and my brother being a camera man for the air force and he took me there to donate alot of unused military photos for them to use. I still own a house outside Florence even though I have worked on the road since I was 18. Everytime I come home things seem to have changed and not always towards the good. I do however see alot of good coming I just hope it can cover up the bad.
Wow!!! Im from Florence but live in TN now and I remember pictures my mom used to show me of Florence. This reminded me of that. I miss that town but after the 90s it seems to have changed somewhat. I do miss that place sometimes....
wow florence was so beautiful and wholesome! something right out of the waltons!
