A double 6 is used when you need an alternate tuning on a 6 string neck. Gibson has made a few of these as well.

To be honest I don't know that much about double necked guitars other than Jimmy Page had one. Everyone's saying that you need to have one 6 string and one 12 string neck . Can someone like just explain to me the point of a double necked guitar? :)

Well basically one of the necks can have 12 strings, and one can have six. So a scenario you would need a double neck in is when you're playing a song that normally would require both a six string guitar, as well as a 12 string guitar, then you could use a double neck and not have to switch between them. Double neck guitars don't always have to have one six and one twelve though. It can be whatever you want. I've heard of some that have one bass guitar and one regular guitar.

actually, fender specially made david gilmour from pink floyd a double neck strat. he rejected it though, because it was really heavy and uncomfortable to play. i read about it in the book about david gilmours black strat. look it up.
