As for his foreign policies: he has yet to yield any serious results due to his "engagement" policies and has only managed to give our competitors everything they want and the impetus to ask for me in exchange for nothing (save more delay tactics and political brinksmanship). While I agree engaging in Soft Power Diplomacy is important, when you fail to achieve ANY major foreign policy goals whilst giving the other side everything they wanted, you risk becoming an Appeaser.

He's reengaged the Muslim world in a dialog. Again, thats an accomplishment.
And he's on track to pull out troops in Iraq.
He's stepped away from unilateralism.
Putting smart pressure on Iran.
But the US is after all in two wars, in a recession and in great debt. Something have to give. Be realistic towards the goal post.

He cancelled the unessecary missle defense shield in Poland and you see how he's finally reigning in Isreal. Obama has also gotten Putin to allow passage to Afghanistan through the Siberian region, somehthing Bush attempted to force out of Putin for years with no headway.

@Linkster2o Yet so much of his work goes into validating not only Reagan's economic policies, but the policies of globalization -- which he states in "Post-American World" took off thanks to Reagan's supply-side policies in the 80s and the dismantling of the USSR. While I am no way stating Zakaria is an avowed Classical Economist, when one reads between the lines, one quickly realizes his sympathies lie with that school of economic thought more than any other.

While I am a critic of Supply Side Economics, I do agree with Zakaria and many others in their opposition to protectionism. I approve of some of Obama's economic policies, but his refusal to accept free-trade is irritating.
None the less, Obama is an appropriate figure in a "post-american world" at least in his stances on foreign policy.

Obama by definition is an inappropriate figure in the "Post-American World" since that world is dependent on a strong & vibrant global economy dominated by free trade. Obama has yet to give us this.

Fareed Zakaria says it for us. Already it's 8 yrs down the chute for Americans with Bush, imagine another 4 yrs with McCain or Sarah Palin for president. A mom with 5 kids, n one who needs special care, a teen daughter with child, ..that would be a lot of distractions. Like any working mom with kids, it can be stressful, and she's going to handle the world's economic issues, foreign policies, education, health plans ...

And all of this disqualifies her as being able to handle the countries issues? I think not ... I think this makes her more qualified because she UNDERSTANDS how it is to be a human being and she knows how it feels to struggle and have to worry about paying bills and all the things that happen in an everyday/normal life.

Palin shows a complete lack of comprehension on such issues as foreign policy, economy, diplomacy, law - but she "UNDERSTANDS 'how' it is to be a human being" (whatever that means) and "she knows how it feels to struggle", so that trumps everything?
With qualifications so low, why not go to a Wal-Mart and pick the first person you see. My guess is they won't be able to find Iraq on a map, but I bet they know how to be human and have experienced struggle. IDIOT!
