Do you think she'd just memorized what the letters meant or did she understand the words? My cousin, who has autism, started to read when he was a toddler too, but couldn't understand the context or meaning of sentences until he was well over twenty...
autisum can cause some sparks of brightness lets say if i said to a girl my birth date 1922(thats not my birth date) so i said to the atistic child november 16 1922 the autistic child would say i was born on a thurseday =)
I'm curious how it all started. My son has books and magazines all over the room. he is constantly flipping pages. I use to gry to control it but now i just let him grab newspaers or anything and it looks like he's so interested. did your child do this?
Jade was more interested in flashcards. We must have every set sold in Florida!
She really liked the Baby Einstein flashcards. They have real pictures, and the words are in bold print. Plus they are very sturdy cards.
Jaqde is mildly interested in books, and doesn't really pay any attention to magazines or newspapers.
Another thing Jade enjoys, is her magna-doodle. We write many words on this which she enjoys reading. It is a real boredom buster while waiting at Doctors offices, etc.
your baby is beautiful im 18 and have nothing to relate to autism but your daughter seems really cute and sweet i admire you 4 sharing this with everyone that likes to b informed.
i taught an autistic boy who was 4 and reading at a grade 8 level. teach your girl to interact with other children and to take transitions in stride. this is what she will struggle with. also make her accept variety- not always the same routines.
I would not have known she's autistic. What are the signs? She looks like any other 2 yr old. My daughter, now 3, did some comparably amazing things at 2.
hi my son of 4 years old also has aurtism but the amasing thing with him he can read now he can talk is fantastic on pc's and will be attending mainstream school i am so proud of him yoy little girl is amazing have you tryed words through singing and makaton sign it worked for us take care and just think one day your amazing girl could be the next bill gates x
It also looks as though she simply has trouble pronouncing certain letters and combinations of letters. Just something to consider. I could be wrong on both theories.
This is common for children with autism. When Jade hears the word repeated back to her by mom, the brain isn't processing the information correctly. Jade is saying the word exactly how her brain is interpreting it!
Jade acts exactly how my daughter did at this age! She was just diagnosed autistic this past year.
Actuall, it is due to articulation. Her articulation has greatl improved since. It was when we discovered that Jade could read, that we realized she had been talking, we just never understood what she was saying! Once we were able to pair her speech to written word, a giant door opened for Jade!
I was thinking that she can read better than she can speak! But that's not suprising; most 2yr olds can't speak that well. I love the way you phrased the above, kind of like a Hellen Kellar thing eh? Very cool Jade!

This comment has received too many negative votes show
She did not teach herself how to read. :/ come on now, stop trying to make it sound like she's special, and not dumb.

She does have problems with certain sounds, especially hard consenant sounds that begin words. Her speech therapist is helping us through this.

It seems to me that she often doesn't pronounce the first letters of the words. It seems as though she may be mostly ignoring the capital letters.
