thumbs up, man. trying to play this piece after miles and trane and post it usually makes me overthink my attitude to death penalty..:-) but ur sound really is an inspiration and helps me to get through my life as protenplayer without spending my brain to alk and depri. love it, thanks
The only words I can think of to describe this wonderful tune is "azure blue smooth jazz". I love the tenor sax--can't beat it for relaxing or contemplation.
Miles would be proud of you playing this you are a fantastic Tenor Saxophone player and you portray such emotion in this more Miles Davis tracks have you tryed "So What "or Freddie Freeloader ?
I can only tell one thing. Your playing inspired me after several years to unpack my horn and start blowin some tunes again. I even bought me a tenor sax, what always was one of my dreams. And now I can't stop playing, and when I'm not near my sax I whistle my tunes!!! :) By far I'm not as good as you, but the least I can do is try!!!!
to continue, I've been listening to quite a bit of modal jazz lately which has led me back to Miles, yours is the most evocative version I've heard of 'Blue in Green'. Beautifully played, Miles and Coltrane would've have understood you.
Beautiful.... I just wish I could find other SLOW songs like this. Seems what most people call slow jazz, I call smooth jazz. Do you know of any others that are this slow. Maybe I should search coma jazz.... lol I love this stuff. Just nice to sit back and let time pass with this music.
Nice job! Imagine sitting on the rooftop, watching the city skyline slow down in the middle of the night..with cool, crisp air surrounding you while listening to this.
Less is more, is the always the ticket....and you were very smart to do that on this tune. Most musicians tend to over play this song. Your Chet Baker-ish laid back style was nice......and the Blue Note lighting didn't hurt either.
Thanks for the feedback (redfaced). No I do not think about chord changes at all, just the melody. Sometimes I run through a tune 30-40 times until I find something I like. My brain does not work in chords, scales or even note names, just tunes. I try to get to the point where I can hear what note is coming next... does that make sense? I practice playing by ear a lot, so my fingers, note intervals and ears become "one". This is why I cannot play bebop :-)
crazy i play the same way and beebop isnt poeticle enough for me to play so i dont miss it or even listen to it,you have a great feel ,using your creative part of the brain is what jazz is about ,
hey i really loved it. It helped me think and relax while i draw what i love and thanks again for posting this vid great music man.Hope to hear more from you.
Very nice job (again). Slow tunes like this are much more difficult to play than they seem. Most people butcher them by trying to do too much. What you choose not to play is often more important than what you do play. Silence is golden...and all that...~L~
The coolness of this tune is mainly due to your economic playing - less is indeed more! And I think your sound/tone on tenor is getting better all the time.
Only there was not enough room! They are mainly west coast players from the 50's and 60's but I also love later east coast stuff. And Django on the guitar. I also love most trumpet players, Miles/Baker/Farmer because they choose nice notes..
So you've reached you blue period - like Coltrane and Miles and Picasso. SaintYared has already said everything. Apart from the music it is a delight to s e e you in this blue light: It's after hours, a lonesome figure on the stage
is still clinging to his thoughts... Great job, CDD!
Kind of Blue, one of the most brilliant jazz compositions by Miles Davis, singlehandedly turned me into jazz more than 15 years ago, and I haven't listened to anything else since then. Your interpretation of Coltrane's tenor is downright chilling, and it got me listening to the entire CD all over again. There's one refrain in Blue in Green (Trane's) I hoped to hear, but your overall approach is phenomenal.
Thanks SaintYared, I agree, I love Tranes solo on this tune, and I can play it.I tried to forget it though, because I would have sounded like a third rate imitator, instead of just a third rate player :-))
You're a first-rate player. The evidence of that is clear -- you have a dedicated following, especially those of us who blow into a twisted piece of brass and try to produce a decent sound.

I listen to this often. It's beautiful, and an inspiration...
For me Jazz has to have "feeling", which you got.
Thanks so much for sharing this expression...

It is easy to fall in love with your tone. You move through cord changes with such grace. Are you focusing on those chord changes?

yeah, you're playing is definently more melodic as compared to cats i know who just do 32 runs. really great job with the solo.
