"At Fillmore East" was certainly a game-changer album --- along with bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd and other Southern rhythm and blues/rock and roll groups --- music has never been the same. The Allman Brothers Band's sound was a perfect fit for the era.
"Two Guns-Balls Out" was another talented band in the 70's that was signed to Capricorn Records. Check out their music on youtube it is a sound of its own and considered a southern rock n roll classic!!!
....listenin' to this for 40 years now. Believe it or not, Dickey's solo is smoother and more more musical through the chord changes. There, I said it.....
Hey, I work for the (and it's government). Have been to at least 10 AAB concerts over the last 30 years. Play my American made Gibson Les Paul everyday. And go to church on Sunday. Go start your shit somewhere else fuck.
How can Gaga get like two million hits and this classic only a quarter of that. someone needs to let those little girls know what will really get their panties wet. one of the greatest songs ever.....
I do think the British ruled the 70's with bands like Yes,King Crimson,Led Zep,Jethro Tull,Pink Floyd,Early Genesis and they also kicked ass on the blues rock scene. The Allman Bro's were not quite as good as the prog rock gods but they where as good as the blues rock Brits.Prog rock took the musicianship to another level and was a British art form with the exception of Rush,Kansas and Happy the Man.
This song could go on for 2 hours and I would still be in a state of southern blues roots nirvana! Gregg, Berry, Jaimoe, Butch, Dickie and the impossibly brilliant Duane...my favorite Allman Bros performance of all time. And one of many heartfelt Duane solos that are technically difficult, but even more soulfully astonishing...The Allman Brothers in the flower of their youth and at the peak of their incredible and gifted musicianship.
@lateforthesky61 your absolutely right brother.stormy monday is 1 of the greatest songs of all time.another song ya might wanna give a listen to is still got the blues by the late gary moore,i garantee you will approve.take care jim
One of my favorite non progressive rock songs of all time.By far the best American rock of the 70's with the posible exception of early Blue Oyster Cult and Kansas.
This may be the most under rated and under appreciated band of all time... Only 24 years old, Duane I wish you were still here my friend, your influence goes beyond any other guitar player. Simply the greatest... Wail on in heaven bother
@67goldtops Your damn right they are underrated... You can't buy a drug to make you feel the way these boys can make you feel. Beatles? Rolling Stones?.... pfft ive heard all the top bands ranked by these lame magazines.... ABB was light years ahead of them all
can you hear the passion and soul this brother was talking to the whole world music next to God is the elixar sprinkled with a little love that can heal.
Having listened to this for nigh on forty years, it's safe to say I'll never tire of it. Can't think of anything else to say that hasn't been said already.
@TheTMAN321 To compare Dickey to Duane is pure insanity. Duane Allman was a rock god. I love Dickey's solo work. I like his sound. They had a splended sound together but Sky dog will always be remembered as pure magic man.
Saw them when they played all over the south.. BEST southern rock/blues band ever... was at a BBQ where they played just guitars and smoked for hours!!!
holy fuckin shit ive had this page on by it self since noon n jus replied down there 7 mins ago the view was at430,000 or somethin and now it says 473,739 holy fuck thats FAST
My older brother had this on vinyl when it was new (40 years ago) when I was about 12. I used to move the furniture around in my parent's house, turn it up to 9 (didn't want to blow dad's speakers, right), and watch for incoming family out the window of our house. Later in life I had a friend who, after hearing it on my system, would say "play it." And I would. This is the most influential song (regarding my tastes in music) I've heard. It still gives me the chills.
at 2:49 Duane does 7 notes that goes so deep and shows why he was the greatest blues guitarist ever.. keep it simple and soulfull..And too his solo, the first guitarsolo if anyone should be in doubt, is strong, heartbound and calm and exciting in the same time.. technically superior, and no need to show fastness or anything else indifferent
just listened to the lee michaels version and......nah! its the whole band, man, that makes them great. in the background, listen to the way the keyboard compliments the solo out front. no one does this better than the ALLMAN BROTHERS. there, i said it. yup thats at 6;59. sorry

I liked Duane's quote when he was asked what he was doing about the revolution, and he said: " There ain't no revolution, it's evolution, but every time I'm in Georgia, I eat a peach for peace " This quote led The Allman Brothers dedicating the album " Eat a Peach " to his honor. He was not killed on his motorcycle hitting a peach truck, but a lumber truck.
I love the Allman Brothers and all will evey since I became a fan in the 70's. This is probably my favorite song by them. But Sweet Melissa and In Memory of Elizabeth Reed are right there close behind. An awesome band that will never leave my heart.
well considering Duane and Dicky laid this down in 1971 and the rest got to hear their (in my oppinion best ever) version to learn from LOL you can't really even compare them, that old 1953 goldtop les paul sounded awesume in Duanes hands
Would you mind explaining the entire body of work? See where most of the influence comes from, also I think I did mention that "there is so much diversity to each artist and/or band."
@purplecloud191702 The Allman Brothers are a BLUES BAND at the core and foundation. I hate ignorant people always labeling older artists into the "classic rock" genre when there is so much diversity to each artist and/or band, but you keep labeling them as the media tells you to do so
Cleartwater here, at 2:53 in the song he plays a 3 second rift. At 3:40 Duane starts playing his sweet guitar you can here all the clear notes distinctly. It is almost talking to you. If you listen close to where he stretches the notes it sounds like it is talking whinning dog sound. Only the Skyman could make a guitar sound like that. Dickey Betts does a good job on the simple parts but Duane take the lead and reaches for the sky.

hey viccifarris, i feel ya, man. loved the leemichaels classic,do-ya-know...WHAT-i -MEAN ? AND, I LOVE ME SOME BOBBY-BLUE. NOW THEN, props said.but, and let me raise but to capital BUT, there is no comparing anybody, anything at ANYTIME, to this ABB -blues-persoNIFIcation...NOTHING.and you know what else? if your ears are playing that sort of trick on your brain, and making you ,confused-like, well I would definitely check with both an audiologist and...a psychologist.
@chef4cook Hey! Was that you, "hanging" down at Dupont Circle? You would have found me, on M St. selling flowers to the tourists! Little "hippie" that I was. And those memories would not be complete without "The Allman Bros."

This one is smooth, with a kick, like Kentucky bourbon

@jimi2142 What an excellent way to say that jimi2142! :)
Not enough "O"s in smoooth to describe this version. Lee Michaels was the champ, of course, but there is everything right about this version!
Skydog certainly deserves big kudos for his work here.

I saw them do this in 71' at the old RFK Stadium in DC. That show rocked with 70,000 peeps!

@chef4cook Hey! Was that you, "hanging" down at Dupont Circle? You would have found me, on M St. selling flowers to the tourists! Little "hippie" that I was. And those memories would not be complete without "The Allman Bros."
