First off, Christians Don't see Christianity as a religion, they see it as a relationship with God and Jesus. There are churches out there that have failed to feed the poor, so although you can say that catholic churches have succeeded, you can't they haven't failed as well. If Jesus really saved us, why do we need these "set rules" from Christianity in order for us to enter heaven? Is heaven some VIP club that sorts souls out by their definition of "good and evil" and, if heaven saves the souls of the lost, wouldn't letting the other souls that weren't saved in the first place are also lost souls condemned by heaven due to them SORTING OUT the souls?

Religion isn't liked in society, he is trying to break away from this disliked "religion" by saying Jesus is better (from a Christian perspective). It is beautiful and the Priest I heard was excellent. @neilcode3HEB Catholics ask the saints to pray FOR us to God. Just like you might ask your friend or your mom or dad to pray to God for you. It's not idolatry. We look up to them and are inspired by them because they have won the race and represent how God's grace can bring us to perfection.

What he speaks is 100% correct biblically. The catholic religion is possibly the most unbiblical religion as far as christianity goes. I have no doubt that many Catholics have a personal relationship with the Lord, and that is good, because that's what is going to get you into heaven, not being in church every week and following rules.
@catholicnetwork I agree, but the great thing about our God is that if we don't follow them, we are already forgiven; the Catholic church is not so forgiving. I'm not saying that God does not have rules for us that are set out for our well-being, just that it is not what he's about. If Catholics want to follow the rules of their church then that will not hinder there salvation, but it also will not bring them salvation. Salvation will come from the relationship, not following the rules.

As far as you quoting Matt 7:21, we are called to do His will. However, we will always fall short of the expectation of the perfection that God excepts from us. In this passage, Christ is setting an impossible standard that can only be overcome through faith (Rom 10:4). The idea of us "earning" salvation is literally impossible. With that being said, I do believe that doing good works will come with salvation because of our love for God. But still, our human nature will make it not enough.

We honor them (Mary as being the Mother of God and the saints for being examples of how Christians ought to live their lives) and we ask their intercession and their help (since they are in Heaven with Christ then who better to ask to pray on our behalf?) We do not worship them, however.

Bball1989" has valid points, but he simply misunderstands religion as a whole. Religion was created in order for people to have a guideline to become more oriented toward "good." However, this guideline is misunderstood in too frequently. (For example, people are slaves to a "moral law" and dont understand WHY they should act the way that they should.)
I do agree that we need a relationship with Jesus. However, it needs to be through religion, and we need to make sure we truly understand it.

Secondly, Jesus was the founder of the Catholic church (not Peter).Jesus always referred to Peter as his "rock" in scripture. When Jesus says "Peter, upon this rock I will build my church", Catholics understand that to mean that Peter was the rock.That being said, Peter WAS the first pope.Who was the first pope if Peter wasn't??

@neilcode3HEB Catholics ask the saints to pray FOR us to God. Just like you might ask your friend or your mom or dad to pray to God for you. It's not idolatry. We look up to them and are inspired by them because they have won the race and represent how God's grace can bring us to perfection.

So next time you ask your preacher/family to pray for you, remember that Catholics are doing the exact same thing when we ask the saints to pray for us.Catholics ask living people to pray for them too but honestl, the saints & Mary might have just a little more pull.I think I like my chances better with Mary (the Mother of Jesus) praying for me than those here on earth. We have photographs of loved ones,even those who have died, as reminders about who they were to us.That is why Catholics have statues of saints.The saints are people we try to remind ourselves of because of how they dedicated their lives to Christ. When I'm reminded, I think more about how much more I could be doing & how short I fall.

I can see how you see no fault in your own church but there are tons out there that don't feed the poor. My father was sick in the hospital dying and the church me and my sister attended for years said they dont make house calls. There's a lot of corrupt in the church whether you believe it or not and he was just speaking the truth. Don't be so quick to be defensive.. if your church is as perfect as you seem to believe you wouldn't have to defend it, would you?

It's ironic that a user named "catholic network" would be the one to post this response. Your criticism on bball1989 is based purely on the catholic religion. What he speaks is 100% correct biblically. The catholic religion is possibly the most unbiblical religion as far as christianity goes. I have no doubt that many Catholics have a personal relationship with the Lord, and that is good, because that's what is going to get you into heaven, not being in church every week and following rules.

@catholicnetwork I agree, but the great thing about our God is that if we don't follow them, we are already forgiven; the Catholic church is not so forgiving. I'm not saying that God does not have rules for us that are set out for our well-being, just that it is not what he's about. If Catholics want to follow the rules of their church then that will not hinder there salvation, but it also will not bring them salvation. Salvation will come from the relationship, not following the rules.

The catholic church has troughout history missused authority to get whealth and power (no i dont hate catholics or think they are as bad now as the where hundreds of years ago). I think What the other young man was saying , is that Religion has become a creation of men, to hid their flaws. And make rules and guidelines to fit their own standards. I mean think about it there are so many religions around today, Which religion is "right" . As far as you quoting Matt 7:21, we are called to do His will. However, we will always fall short of the expectation of the perfection that God excepts from us. In this passage, Christ is setting an impossible standard that can only be overcome through faith (Rom 10:4). The idea of us "earning" salvation is literally impossible. With that being said, I do believe that doing good works will come with salvation because of our love for God. But still, our human nature will make it not enough.

We honor them (Mary as being the Mother of God and the saints for being examples of how Christians ought to live their lives) and we ask their intercession and their help (since they are in Heaven with Christ then who better to ask to pray on our behalf?) We do not worship them, however.

Bball1989" has valid points, but he simply misunderstands religion as a whole. Religion was created in order for people to have a guideline to become more oriented toward "good." However, this guideline is misunderstood in too frequently. (For example, people are slaves to a "moral law" and dont understand WHY they should act the way that they should.)
I do agree that we need a relationship with Jesus. However, it needs to be through religion, and we need to make sure we truly understand it.

He is not making these remarks AT the church. But more at the people who show up and believe that being there, and being seen to be there, is how to gain salvation.

What the guy is saying is that, its not what we do that gains us salvation. We dont just show up to church on a sunday, sit through the service, and the thats our 'holy' act for the week. We have to have a personal relationship with Jesus.

@GetHerSideways First, read his title....It is self explanatory..he hates religion and second JESUS said " Not anyone who says lord lord will enter the kingdom of heaven but he who does the will of God.

Brennan Manning sums it up very well "The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians who acknowledge Jesus with their lips and walk out the door and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable." Forget the title, listen to what he actually says.

He is trying to say, instead of going to church and listen to self righteous men pray to Jesus, you should DO the same thing Jesus did, feed the hungry, love thy neighbor etc...

@catholicnetwork Do understand that every single church is not run the same. Can you honestly say that every single member of the Catholic Church is willing--and able--to help those less fortunate? Are there programs implemented in your church that is willing to help the members themselves? Because let us remember that although we may be in God, He may be putting us through storms for His purposes. Just because you do good deeds, that does not mean you are holy!
