What is that device? Seen a lot of gear in my life, but not that.
I liked to take the serrated edge of a coin and rotate it on a guitar string and play it through my Copicat mark IV ( the one made for Guild guitars). The preamp circuit in that unit was the best preamp signal I ever heard ( I think a couple of BC109's) and played every guitar through it even with it bypassed it added just the right edge to the signal. I highly recommend trying to 'copi' that circuit and put it into a pedal.
it remembers me at the time, i used to play my guitar with a screwdriver between the strings and then through a delay and many other effect pedals. it sounds almost the same (but was not my original idea - i once saw the legendary punk band 'The Ex' - the guitar player used to play in this way)
1) this is awesome and you pretty much sold me on shelling out the $430 bucks for it. 2) What are those sticks your friend is using? Also, can you use anything to play the springs? Or will certain materials damage them. Any info is greatly appreciated...

I love how a little bug runs out from under it and runs back in at 4:14
I made something much less interesting once that was decidedly non-electronic.
Still trying to figure out how best to do the pickups and contact mics...

whoops. the springs are played with cue tips, they are fragile but as long as you're careful you should be able to play them with just about anything
