I am actually GLAD they made their music more accessible, more clear. It really lets you appreciate his vocals, not to mention the band in general.

Sure, fuzzymetal is good, but you cannot keep on sounding like your speakers are dying.

Besides, the poetic lyrical style goes superbly with this kind of refined shredding.

@CentraHOTable It was actually the intro speech that got me into this song, and it was this song in fact that got me into CoF. I was listening to Triple J's "The Racket" (full metal racket at the time). I was half asleep at the time and just heard "Sometimes i beheaded them with daggers, with puniards, with knives..." And i was just like "holy shit that's fucking evil." And i was hooked, after Darkness Incarnate and Death of Love, i bought the album.

Gilles wasn't taking revenge on anyone. He had a spending problem and single-handedly devoured his own bank account. Eventually when he was almost broke some nutcase told him to sacrifice children to some stupid demon to get his wealth back which only accomplished his own downfall.

He dabbled in the occult and Alchemy for a long time before going broke and also hired many conjurers and alchemists , having conjugal relations with some , before being smitten by Prelati. This is when he felt empowered and convinced he could find the "philosopher's stone" and started REALLY massacring children. His downfall came after making threats to other nobles , and the King of Spain .

The sacrifice was to appease Barron so that he would grant success to the practice of alchemy. But it mentions in the song that it didn't work. "So unique was the beat of his poisoned heart and it's sordid, morbid crack. No further atrocity could possibly surpass. Unrewarded, bored, he turned his back."
