  • Do you know how to do Time-Lapse Photography with this camera, or ANY camera?

It easy with this device: tempus.bymac.org

Go to the website, works with ALL cameras! :)

  • does anyone knows how much it cost

  • hello , very nice review!! i have the same cam,and i want to know if it has a "bulb " mode ... or how can have something similar to this? thanks

  • Hebe

    LOVE? (官方動畫版)

  • I have had my TZ5 for over a year now and I still can't figure out how to get good high speed pics of vehicles passing by at highway speeds and how to get good nightime photos of large trucks. If any of you can give me tips I would appreciate it.

  • Great review as always, where do you take your outside shots? It looks like a really nice location.

  • @jcardrosebud Queenstown, NZ.

  • beware of after sale service of this camera especially from courts dept store in singapore

the sale staff lie about the service, the refund dept has no refund authority and each dept pushes the blame to one another. he is head of dept but no where to be found and known only to flash his namecard everywhere promoting himself for a job elsewhere.

    why am i so bitter?

it is six months now and no one is responsible for a faulty camera i bought from them even after some ten e-mail exchanges.

  • Luxuriant panasonic digital camera, this model is very like

  • hey look its fea from Red hot chili peppers!!

  • I love this camera

  • can you do macro with it ???

  • i've used this camera for over a year now, it really is a great little machine. Shame it's burnt now :(

  • ive got one of these. amazing camera. good price. what else can you want?

  • my son have one

  • great review :-) Do you know if there's a waterproof casing available for this model?

  • Not sure about the TZ5, but the latest version, the TZ7 / ZS3 does have an optional underwater housing - see my review at cameralabs . com.

  • can you remove the lens or whatever to put on a FISHEYE LENS?

  • which is better fuji fx200exr or the tz5

  • i wannna recoed a video but it says motion picture

  • I puchased this from Camerabox...they sold me a non CE probably imported from Canada, so warranty no good in UK...BEWARE of Camerabox...

  • same with me dude

  • Are the video quality and the sound of the TZ5, same on the TZ6? I'm still doubting between those two...

  • What a great review of a great camera! I've had it for a year and a half, and guess what, this video just taught me a few things I'd never even tried. Dual play & multi aspect for example.

Main problems for me: I just wish the video format was something else than .mov and the audio quality could be a lot better. Maybe I'll have a look at the TZ7...

Any suggestions on a cheap video editor for movs? I still haven't found one that I really liked.

  • I am using Tz5 since 8 months, very practical for travel,ng , video quality is really good 720p ! but not for low light conditions..Manuel focus is really missing point, good battery life. Concerning video editing, after long unsuccessful researches one software made me happy : Wondershare video converter platinum!

  • yep awesome camera alright ill be taking mine to slayer & megadeth when they come to N.Z hd all the way. yeah

  • Excuse me for talking about the minor things but was that filmed in New Zealand near the Luge?

  • It was indeed - at the Queenstown Skyline.

  • Yeah. Absoulutly beautiful. Totally miss you kiwis!

    Such a calmful lifestyle

  • how do u record

  • Thanks, very helpful. Helped me make up my mind. Off to buy one now

  • You're very welcome! Please consider buying through the cameralabs . com website, as that's the only thing that pays for the reviews!

  • Thanks, agreat review that's helped make my mind up. I want one!

  • I love my lumix

  • Would this be the same as the DMC-TZ5S?

  • Yes, the S means silver and the K means black.

  • Ahh, got it! lol

    Thank you :)

  • thanks a million, that was unbelievably helpful

    5*

  • Probably the best 'point and shoot' camera out there for the price.

  • Its very impressive.

However, even with OS turned on, you still need a steady hand to get a clear image. But its pretty obvious that you'd expect that anyway.

Very nice camera indeed and well worth the £180 ish its going for now. Recommended.

  • I've just got one of these.

I have to say, the images it takes are great. Nice contrast, sharp.

The only thing i can compare it to is my Nikon d80 with the 18-135mm lense and i have to say, i'm still glad i own a decent SLR.

However, trying to compare the TZ5 to my d80 isnt a fair head to head. Suffice to say, i am very happy with the TZ5 even tho the HD video is still abit pants. And the mic is shite!

The ace card that this camera posses is obviously the 10x zoom.

  • total newb here! can you please tell me if the videos shot with this lumix TZ5 in 720p format can be opened with my PCs window movie maker software?

  • I may be wrong, but I don't think WMM can handle Quicktime MOV files. So you'd need to convert them into something else first before it would accept them.

  • so 720p is MOV eh? you are right! WMM does not open MOV. my current camera is a casio that shoots MOV. i had to buy a software (adobe prem elem) but still like the simplicity of WMM. a couple of times i've taken the mov videos and converted them to AVI iot open them with WMM but i think they lose some quality.

i was looking at the TZ5 b/c of the wide angle and big 10x zoom. i mountainbike and like to shoot short sections and then put them 2gether in one video. i was hoping 720p was not MOV.

  • just use WinFF to convert files, its free

  • comparing the DMC TZ5 to the Sonycyber shot T500....which is better?

  • DMC TZ5

  • Yesterday, I went to some shops and saw a Panasonic TZ6, and I know the TZ7 is coming out, it also said that it just arrived (as in just came out) I dont understand why Panasonic have made a TZ6 and TZ7, I had a look at it and it only had one microphone and I'm sure the TZ7 has two, please help me.

  • Hi moviesunrated, the TZ6 (ZS1) is a more basic version of the TZ7 (ZS3), but has the same 12x zoom. See my review of the TZ7 / ZS3 at cameralabs . com to find out the differences...

  • i have this and samsung's st10... my personal opinion st10 is a bit more functional

  • what is better for doing wonderful photos: Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 or Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ8 ????? IT'S VERY IMPORATANT TO ME! SO PLEASE ANSWER :)

  • Now, I don't know for certain...but I would assume the TZ8, only because it is newer, and is technically the successor to the TZ5.

  • well, i'm a tz5 owner. As far as i know and check, the video mode is 'eating' roughtly 200MB per minute of my 8GB kingston class 4 memory. The setting is: 30 fps, 16:9H. What is happening to me? when i starts a video record with the empty memory (just formated), the camera only let me record for almost 9 minutes...

Some advice or tip is welcome

  • Check my review of the TZ5 at cameralabs . com - I measured it at 3MB per second which would be approx 180MB per minute. So it's normal.

  • Can you tell me when you've made a review for the TZ-7 please, if you're too busy then I will be checking.

  • I Just posted a review of the TZ7 yesterday at cameralabs . com!

  • hello i wanna buy a camera.i need some help ppl..which one u think i should prefer:Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 , Fujifilm 100 fd, PowerShot SX 200 IS,PowerShot SX 110 IS or something else??pls give me some advise and ideas

  • Lumix DMC-TZ6

  • Thanks to Gordon for the influential review. Am a proud owner now. Check out my HD vids here on YouTube. They were all recorded using a TZ5. I have high hopes the ZS3 / TZ7 would be a lot better in terms of A&V quality.

  • Comment removed

  • hey Gordon! the TZ7 has just came out! Can ya do a review on it? real appreciate it!

  • I'll be testing it as soon as Panasonic get one to me.

  • Damn it, theres a new one i only just got this camera.

  • and when zooming during video mode is the zoom motor audible? thanks

  • how large is the HD video file when recording for 1 minute?

  • about 30mb in full resolution.

  • Sorry I gave you a wrong amount of memory for video.

In 16:9 High definition eats 190 mb each minute.

For 4:3 and QVGA is 30mb each minute, but is no good quality.

With a 8gb memory card you can get over 40 minutes of the best resolution from this camera.

  • wow thanks, with the 16 and even 32gb sdhc cards out there this could even replace my camcorder, but i doubt the battery would last that long :]

  • Didn't test yet the battery life, but I took some videos and pictures at my work during 2-3 days and I think you can get 30-40 min. of video with 1 charge. Panasonic say can take 300 pics but nothing about video. Don't forget some of the best of this camera: 3" display with 460000 pixels( that's amazing), 28mm lens, 10x optical zoom plus digital to16x, the zoom work smooth, not in steps as other cameras, easy to use, easy to move the files to your PC. I choose it instead of camcorder.

  • Comment removed

  • What country is that because its quit nice.

  • It's very nice! It's filmed in Queenstown in New Zealand...

  • How's the battery life on this camera?

  • Check the bottom of the design page on the review at cameralabs . com!

  • I was wondering if the video could play back on my PC with vista? cheers!

  • Goede review! Misschien wel 4*

Ik heb hem net gekocht, echt een toppertje hoor!

Kan bijna geen minpuntjes eraan vinden! Echt géweldig!

Waarom reageer ik in het Nederlands, en niet in het Engels? :D

  • Thank you - enjoyed the video here- This is a fantastic camera, especially when one knows how to use it, and how easy it is to great GREAT shots with - Cheers

  • I have this camera and buyed a 4gb card. And it shows only 15minutes of filming. Can it be? withouht card it was 1.30minutes of filming.

  • Can someone take professional acting portraits with this camera or the prodecessor?

  • Well you can obviously take photos of people with any camera, but their suitability depends on your own expectations. If you need a professional result, I'd recommend using a DSLR instead, even a budget model. See the best buys section at cameralabs . com for recommended models, and check dslrtips . com for advice on taking portraits.

  • 1. What did you expect with a build in flash of that size?? A hydrogen fusion light source??

    2. The iA is great for indoor shots wherein it tries to get more light inside to lighten up the darker regions.. Works EXCELLENT if you know where to use it.

    3. Use Neatimage and it will swipe them clean. I much prefer it over camera applied noise reductions.

    4. NO. Panasonic usually does not apply aggressive image sharpening like the Canons. GOOD for post processing.

  • 5. Vivid does a really nice job.

    6. DISAGREE.

    7. I hold the camera like I do my DSLR. Dont hold it like your mobile phone camera.

    8. get a better tripod. If your dog's collar don't fit, you get another collar, not a new dog.

    Enjoy your oldie.

  • I bought mine today from Comet. Ex display model for £149.99.

I did try to order one at the store for delivery but their computer came up that the product was discontinued. Hence i bought the ex display model.

I must say this is a mighty fine camera. Night time/dark room are very very impressive. Much better than my 8m Samsung S800 (onsale as we speak on Ebay) plug plug.

  • PS ...that a really good review. very well done and informative.

  • Nice review, 5*!

But one thing I haven't found out yet, is if the camera has an autofocus while recording a video? E.g. if you're filming an object and you move it closer to the camera, does the camera autofocus on this new situation? Or does it get blurred like with a fixed-focus video?

  • eheh i bought mine for 256€ with sdcard 4gigabites....thats a very god camera

  • got mine today! $298 with 4gb sdhc card. i love it! 10x optical zoom and a reasonable price! what can u ask for?! :)

  • Nice video!

  • Stiff british english is always a pleasure to hear.

  • It is- but this really isn't that stiff in my book.

  • Very helpful review! thanks very much!

  • io l' ho comprata per 220€!!! troppo bella!

all so nice! (exept the definition of the screen in the camera and the noise of zoom when "filming", but videos ook!!)

    wonderful! mega zoom!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This review is such a welcome relief compared to amateur videos we usually have to suffer through. You guys do a great job. Thanks!

  • Thanks! Don't forget the video here is only a small part of the full review at cameralabs . com!

  • hi! I've heared that I need a fast SD card to record HD videos... What's the ideal speed? Where can I buy one? What's the ideal length for recording 1 hour?

  • Thanks as always for the great, in-depth camera reviews! Just bought the TZ5 today on B&H. Keep up the good work, Gordon!

  • Thanks! Did you buy through our affiliate shopping page at cameralabs . com? If so, many thanks!

  • Since it records in HD and in 16:9, will this cameras footage be able to completely fit YouTubes new widescreen?

  • Yes it would! But earlier Panasonic models offered a standard definition widescreen option which would also fill the screen here...

  • hi, my friend bought this for me for $280 in NY, plus 4gig sdcard for $15, so i got this for $295.

  • Hey Gordon, do ya have a review for the Canon Powershot SX110 is?? Im too gonna get a compact camera, but im stuck between the Panasonic DMC-TZ15 and the Canon Powershot SX110 IS, any advice??

  • Nope, no review on the SX110 IS yet, sorry!

  • Hey Gordon, are there any firmware upgrade released for the TZ5? If there is, whats the address? cheers!~

  • I don't think so, but check the Panasonic website or the cameralabs forum...

  • hi, great review. Can you tell me, will a transcend 16gb sdhc card work ok with this.

    Thanks

Oh and before you ask, yes. i have checked your full review. :-)

  • Sorry, I don't know.

  • hi

i want a digital camera that would be good for recording videos at a concert, and one that would also have reasonable sound. would this camera be suitable.

i understand a video camera recorder is better but i need an actual camera

i would be soooo grateful if you could help me find a suitable camera.

    thank you

    matt

  • Hi I am looking to buy a compact camera. I am looking between the panasonic or canon. Which one would you recommend>?

  • I've just reviewed a few new Canon compacts at cameralabs . com and compared them against Panasonic models - have a look and see what you think!

  • Go to the Panasonic website for your country and they'll have contact details for local dealers.

  • Hmmm, I'd suggest contacting Panasonic or an authorised Panasonic dealer for a spare...

  • i got this today for my birthday!:D

  • I have this camera and give it a 3.5/5. Good things - 10x zoom, 3" lcd, widescreen shot, hd video. Bad things - a little bit bulky.

  • Youve listed some pretty good points there - and only a very minor bad point.

Can you tell me if there are any more bad points about it that make you give it 3.5/5?

  • i looked at the price, i found out it cheaper than the tz3.. hhmmm

  • If you want to see HD video by Lumix TZ5, I've made 12 of them on my videos (posted from the August 13, 2008) I've done some time lapse movies too

to see them, click on my name

  • hz1 vs tz5?

  • tee-zet-five.... zet. Oh, you are so proper! Wee say tee-zee hear in 'ol New Yawk.

  • zed not zet :) lol

  • how good is the flash on these? im thinking of getting one. anyone know?

  • This camera has incredible zoom! As far as my opinion is concerned it's not as good as Sony Cyber-shot T300 (what a stylish camera that is)

  • what about the sound ???? in movie mode

  • Yes it records sound, but like most still cameras, it's not great - and it's also easy to cover the mic with your finger. See the features page of our full review for more details.

  • thanks

  • i wanna buy this camera, gimme a tip!

'cuz i don't know if a should buy it or not.

i don't speak english very well but u understand me XD

    pls help me

  • i just dropped mine in the ocean last week---best non slr ive ever owned they are on back order all over america----i could just scream--1 month till they come in

  • Seems like a solid review I hope so I just boght one!

  • its good enough for me

  • I just wish Panasonic would put decent audio on these to go with the video.

The focus hunting problem I understand was fixed with s June Firmware upgrade

  • It always seems to be sunny at that view spot lol

  • hi what is the diferent betwen the TZ3, TZ4 and the TZ5??? all tree are the same size??

  • The tz 5 has a bigger screen, some new modes in the intelligent auto, and HD video capability

  • hi what is the diferent betwen the tz3, tz4 and tz5??? which one have a better quality??

  • Great review. One question though: On Panasonic's website it says that Lumix DMC-TZ5S can zoom up to 16.7X if you set it in 3MP mode. The camera stores linked from your website bring up TZ5K model. Can you tell if TZ5K has similar zoom capacity with lower resolution like in TZ5S? I plan to buy it through a link to dbuys from CameraLabs pricegrabber, thats the lowest I found. Great work!

  • Hi! The TZ5S and TZ5K are exactly the same other than their colour - S for silver and K for black. We should have prices for both models on the review at cameralabs.

  • a very good review.

    and a very good camera.

may consider buying it as im going to the Internation Motor Show this Friday!

ive heard from over reviews that some people have tacken the TZ5 back because the batter can get very hot or something like that?

    is this true?

    thank you.

  • I haven't experienced this issue.

  • its the hand grip that gets hot after a while. However it doesnt affect the camera in any way and it still functioins perfectly overall an awesome cam

  • 2.5fps is pretty good though, much better than the frustratingly slow 1 frame per 4seconds that my pentax optio s20 can do!

    Great review by the way.

  • How fast will it take photos, especially when you want to shoot continuously, is it slow between shots?

  • There's always a lag with non-DSLRs. For continuous shooting info, check the features page of the full review at cameralabs . com.

  • I was wondering if you had did any reviews on GE cameras.

  • Nope sorry! You can see what cameras I've reviewed by clicking on the reviews tab at cameralabs . com.

  • hi there, ive got this camera and ive read up on your website that if you put it above ISO 200 then there's noise. However i've dona that and its still the same. Does the noise refer to actual sound or is it something else??

  • It's noise in the picture - seen as visible speckles and smearing of fine detail as noise reduction tries to get rid of it. See our noise results and gallery pages to see what I mean.

  • best camera ever

  • nice review man, very complete and full, Nice view to take test pictures too!

  • I've heard mixed things about what the night time shots are like. I love the sound of the camera but im worried at how it would be in concerts as I'd like to get better photos in concerts? I'm not a professional but would like better photos.

  • Hello

Please help. I have problem with my TZ5 and video 16:9H, 30fps :(

Does anyone has a problem with video recording in full HD mode on cards 8gb class 6 PQI?

Interrupt recording and shows me a message that reads "Burn the film canceled because of restrictions on speed memory card."

    What's wrong?

The problem does not occur on slower cards (SD 2GB, 4GB)

    Strange!

  • Maybe it's an issue with 8GB cards or your particular model of 8GB card. I'm afraid I haven't used an 8GB card with this camera, so can't say.

  • Ok, thanks.

  • My 8GB SDHC class 6 Transcend performs great.

  • same here, I have the same card as yours and it performs flawlessly with the TZ5...

  • Some cameras wont support 8gb so stick with a 4gb

  • Hi i saw your review at cameralabs . com. I was just wondering how bad the mic is for recording videos. I know you mentioned that the sound on digital cameras in general arent good and the TZ5 was pretty ropey, but I was just wondering how bad it is in comparison to other digital cameras in general. I heard it was terrible from a few reviews and people also on here, but i just wanted to confirm with you. I was thinking of buying this particular modal because of the HD video.

  • The audio isn't great, but some of the problem is how you hold the camera as it's easy to accidentally cover the microphone. There's several owners of the TZ5 discussing this issue in the Panasonic section of the cameralabs forum...

  • can i have a job? a reviewers job anyway?

  • Sorry, it's a one man operation!

  • Nice Review!

  • whats this known as in Australia? did u say TZ15 or TZ50??

  • TZ15 - find out more in our full review at cameralabs . com.

  • you're looking at approximately 3MB per second of HD footage at 30fps. That would get you just over 11 minutes of 30fps HD with a 2GB file, although Panasonic quotes a maximum length of 15 minutes in any video mode.

that is 4 times the size of 848x480 video

  • how long battery time does it have

does the movies come in mov format?

    i undertand its quick time

i have casio extra slim it do very nice video in ws uhq

    10 min is 500 mb

how big will be the hd size of movie?

  • Hi, all your answers can be found in our full review at cameralabs . com - be sure to read the design and features pages.

  • this is the most intersing sigi cam i seen in long time

finaly with optical zoom hd a all

look like its my next camera

  • does it record in avi format??

    answer me please.

  • There's full details of the video recording on the Features page of our review at cameralabs . com.

  • I want this cameraaaaaaaaaa!!!

  • Great review, thank you very much! I also checked out your website. Impressed by the effort you've put into the review! I'm quite a photo amateur and not quite sure what "lack of manual control" really means in this matter. I'm interested in taking pictures at various motorsport events, still have a camera for the late night party and being discrete while travelling. I can't seem to find any other camera that fulfills my requirements. Is high-speed photos out of the question?

  • The problem with using a compact for action is shutter lag - the delay between pressing the button and the picture being taken. For fast response you really need a DSLR. Feel free to discuss this further on the cameralabs . com forums if you like...

  • I'm very much looking into getting one of these, is there any such modes like apeture or shutter priority? If not could you recommend a good compact camera that has also looking for raw file format!!

  • Weeell, if you want a Panasonic with manual control, check out the new FX500 which we've just tested at cameralabs . com. For RAW, you could go for the older LX2, but the best compact with RAW and manual controls is probably the Canon G9 - again, see our review at cameralabs.

  • I've weighed things up and may decide on the TZ5. Any idea what the maximum size SD card it can take is? I guess it is SDHC compatible?

I love the G9 (just selling my old G5) but have heard the reviews on the dust collection problems.

  • The TZ5 is SDHC compatible, but you'd have to check with Panasonic as to the maximum card size it will support. As for the G9, what dust problems are you referring to? If you currently use a G9, I think you might find the TZ5 a bit too automatic... and the image quality isn't as good. Feel free to discuss this further on the cameralabs forums...

  • Can you focus in movie mode and if you can , how exactly do you focus while in movie mode?
