I'm so glad to see a positive review! I put off buying this device because of so many negative reviews, but now that I own it, I have to say that it is great! It's reliable and the sound quality is awesome!
For those who have trouble, it must be one of 4 things... slow computer, malware on computer, poor internet connection, or not enough power from usb port. You should get 5 volts from your usb port. If not, you can use an AC powered usb hub, but NEVER use a non powered usb hub with this!
@sadmancho pros and cons to both. Some of the features that come free with magic jack are at an additional cost with ooma. Also, the initial cost of ooma is is like 10X that of Magic Jack. With ooma, you still have to pay $12 a year for taxes. It's $20 a year with magic Jack. But because of the much larger initial investment with ooma, it would take you like 35 years to break even. I dont use the phone much so Im satisfied with my magicjack thus far. Ive had it for 3 weeks.
It's good for portability, but it's not a good home phone replacement. Sometimes the software freezes. If this happens you have to unplug the device, wait a moment, and plug it back in again. I've had it for 2 years and it's a gamble as to whether my phone will work whenever I pick it up. It's cheap for sure, but you get what you pay for.
I've owned my magic jack for a little under a year. So far i have had no problems with it. My wife and i dont use the phone much to begin with but its great to have a cheap phone service as a land line. It saved us a lot of money.
I work at a Radio Shack and this is by far one of our most popular products. In the past two years we have only had 2 returned and that was because they where still using DIAL UP!! So if for some reason your living in the 90s this will not work for you lmao
I have both Magicjack and Nettalk and i have to say that Nettalk its way better.... you don't have to a it plug in the computer plus you can make video calls. now thats i good idea cause i can seen the person who i'm calling.
I have only had it for a couple days and it has been messing my computer up turns it off in a crazy way... and I was just looking up reviews for majicjack there's other people out there that have had their whole computer crash .. I can't even go on the internet with the desktop anymore .. so not worth the trashing your computer... save your money and your computer , do not buy it!
Renewal is $39.95 per year not $19.95. The initial advertising is very misleading which I find unethical. The device works well so if you don't mind being lied to than this device is for you. For myself, I don't do business with liars.
very helpful at least you are trying the product and i feel you really know how to test things, thanks again and ignore the neg. reviews but investigate the complaint this will lead you to your idea of who is complaining.
Nice review. Thanks. I'm pretty sold on getting MagicJack.
.
One question remains unanswered, though: I've read claims that sometimes, major ISPs who also offer phone service will covertly interfere with the ports which VOIP uses by squeezing down the speed on those ports, so that the VOIP device can't work correctly?
Dont buy this product!!! This is the Worst product i have ever used!! It feature mediocre quality and very poor customer support!! The worst customer support available!! So do yourself a favor save the time and headache and dont buy this!!
@rynesantos - Funny...I've seen your same word-for-word negative spam on every single vid I've gone to so far. Personally, I've got you pegged as a paid-for shill for one of the big phone companies. Pfffffffffffft !
@nameofthepen no i was not paid by any big phone companies such as att!! even though i do love att im just a customer of them!! anyway to the topic of magicjack first of all its sucks!! customer support the product and the quality sucks!! no toll-free support just a worthless customer chat support that dont help u at all!! my magicjack calls always keep on breaking up when i use it even though they "replaced" it and for them to "replace it it costed me 19.99 and 9.99 and they wont give it back
@nameofthepen that's why i posted the same negative comment on a lot of magicjack videos to avoid them to scam even more future customers!! i am doing you guys a favor by giving u actual unbiased feedback of the product!! :D
@rynesantos I bought a Magic Jack after doing a LOT of research on it.
I can say that I'm not alone in being happy with the product, and there's an entire forum of users who disagree w/your opinion.
You may think you are "helping" protect future customers, but really you sound like you got burned by a bad experience, and trying to get revenge on the company. Not cool, man. Personally, I'm glad there are review sites like InfoNOTmercial to help give UNBIASED opinions! They said the good and bad!
A small (*free) plugin named "Magicsilence" makes the pop-up screen stay hidden until you choose to see it. (I use it and it does exactly that. No more annoying pop-up when calls ring in or when you dial out.)
Another small (*free) application named "MagicRingForever" will allow you to turn off the 4-ring voicemail pickup.
download Magic block, it will stop the magic jack window from popping up whenever you get a call or make a call. Just disable it in 1 click to make the window come back up. Also, if you are new to magic jack, give it a day or two for you to gain the ability to make phone calls (it just has to register and all this stuff, i got angry that it wasnt working, but waited a day and its been peachy keen since)
download MagicBlock, it will prevent the magic jack window from opening whenever you get a call or make a call! Its awesome, you can disable it whenever you want to get the window again.
that's why it has a software where u put in the number you want and press send and it dials it for you rather than keep pressing the numbers on the phone all the time.
b) THEY WILL NOT REFUND ANY MONEY SPENT ON ADDITIONAL FEATURES SUCH AS A PHONE NUMBER OR MULTIPLE YEARS OF SERVICE PAID UPFRONT.
They also have no live customer service only a live chat. No complaints department. No phone number! You'd think they could afford a phone number after they rob you blind.
One big problem with Magic Jack that will prove to be their downfall against new competition.
You MUST have a computer and it MUST be turned ON when you want to make or receive ANY calls. For international calls, each person you are calling MUST also have a Magic Jack to take your call and both of you MUST have your computers turned on every single time.
Yea we got the MagicJack, it never worked properly. When it completly stoped working we called to get a replacement or our money back they said NO that we would just have to buy a new one!!THEY SUCK BALLS!!!!
just got one in the mail Friday and it's annoying though if you're using the computer because if someone picks up the phone, the pop up ad comes popping up on your computer... my brother n law picks up the phone just to annoy me and my sister lol

I can't post a link since YouTube doesn't allow it, but if you just Google for "MagicBlock", it should be the very first result (It's on CNET Downloads).
I do hate that it pops up over everything and i can't do anything about. it really sucks when you're playing a full screen game. when you play a game the phone has just one long ring and it brings the game down which could take a while. The music is funny though, just uses music from your computer as hold music.
There are MagicJack hacks available that allow it to ring an unlimited number of times for voicemail pickup, which allows your answering machine to pick up your calls at your specified number of rings.
Hey how about using Ooma and Magic J at the same time, u don't have to have ur computer on all the time and get ur Magic reroute the calls at the ooma number u think it'll work??
id give it 4 stars

Caution!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This will cost more than you think.
If you aren't satisfied with the service
A) they will refund you the cost of the jack
b) THEY WILL NOT REFUND ANY MONEY SPENT ON ADDITIONAL FEATURES SUCH AS A PHONE NUMBER OR MULTIPLE YEARS OF SERVICE PAID UPFRONT.
They also have no live customer service only a live chat. No complaints department. No phone number! You'd think they could afford a phone number after they rob you blind.
