You know, Bukowski actually hated the movie, but I think it's pretty good. I see his point, I guess: Rourke plays Chinaski as being a lot louder than the way I picture him in print, but that's film. You couldn't really have him mumbling the whole time. I think Rourke did a really good job, I just think of it as a sort of separate thing from the other Chinaski stories, like this character isn't really the same character from the books. Great movie, though.
MANY years ago when I was young I lived above a bar like this. 16 years old and renting a tiny studio apartment for $100 a month and had to clean up the bar a couple nights a week. It was a real cast of characters. Various drunks and looney tunes. Not a single one of them was a mean person. All of them were lowlifes yet most of them were the sweetest people you could meet. They threw me a hell of a party when I left for the military as soon as I turned 18.
so..."this" is the blue bird, only at night....no...only in hollywood you can do a shit like this, it was an artist life not an pseudo comerciall tv show.. what happened to this people heart...where is your blue bird people?
me encanta charles bukowsky, esa ranciedad, compartir con viejos chichas... beber sin medida, meterse en las patas de los caballos, perder el control, perder y ganar, jamas amar..
This was some great acting! I wish it had ended better, the guy had all the breaks and blew every one - a drunk to the end. The scene in the dirty bloody t-shirt was so nasty you wanted to wash after watching it! Still, I can't find it on DVD, want to see it again, like watching a car crash - you want to look away but can't help looking.
Well it was based on the life of the writer himself Charles Bukowski.. no matter how you cut it that's what he was- a drunk. Having gone thru my own sometimes weeklong drunken spree,, i would say the movie was accurate. But more than that Rourke nailed some pretty profound one liners in this film all film/acting students should study it...just hell of a masterpiece..
Thanks for posting I just wish you put up the whole thing! It had an so so ending. Mickey acted and sounded like a jerk. I wouldnt fight over him. Faye is way hotter and classier than that french gal.
