  • thats a big chair 4 such a small kid what if it tips over

  • This gave me a boner.

  • I think it's a scary thought that Andrew is so close to the front in his wheelchair, he might topple over :S anyway, im glad to hear he will walk the earth one fine day!

  • I think that this wheelchair is cool, but what would have been cooler is an America where Andrew's parents had the right to depist his condition before birth, with the help of a free pregnancy healthcare program, like in any other developped country. Too bad in reality rednecks are shouting "socialist" at you when you say that.

  • oooh Thank You so much GFraggle

  • ***No offense*** cool the kid can get around but its kind of like a give up chair at least try to teach him to walk

  • In the end of the clip they said that the kid is given physical therapy and that he's expected to be able to walk eventually.

  • Andrew bless with wheelbus. Andrew will go to special needs school

  • Why would Andrew need to go to a special school? He will go to the same school as his siblings.

He is independently mobile and public schools are wheelchair accessible. Spina bifida doesn't usually lead to cognitive deficits (except for those caused by lack of mobility/lack of experiences to learn).

  • Yes, the technology is way cool and will improve over time.

Points to consider: Every child wants to be close to their mother. this thing will be rolling around knocking stuff over, running over the dogs tail and that kinda thing. How many law suits can I think of?

    Good luck!

  • true except for the sensors on the front and back that prevent it from running into things?

  • jesus christ, i thought driving teens were bad enough

    damn america.

  • I hope this never happens.

The chair probably has plenty of safety sensors built into it anyway?

  • lmao wtf haahahahah

    this is hilarious

  • Here's what will happen,

The wheel chair will tip into the baby pool with the kid strapped in it.

OR roll out the front door and right into traffic. Not the chairs fault, but the thick headed parents who can't keep an eye on their own kid anyway. Good luck.

  • lol that was my first thought as well

  • search this...

    "pj you're gone"

  • i just hope that kid doesn't become attached to his wheel chair

  • You're mad.

  • your saying sick kids learn instincts differently than normal kids?

  • Sick kids often cant walk. But yes, very often they do.

  • wow, what a douche thing to say, he cant walk yet because of his condition!!!!!!! Pay attention next time!!

    What a sin!

  • Because the poor kid has spine bifida. You fucking idiot.

  • This is not good for little childrens, because they don't learn to go and they will be fat.

  • Damn- That kid looks like he's havin way more fun than me......(re-shingling my fecking house) :D

  • lol this is crazy

  • Caralho...

    Queria um destes para mim!!!

  • They see him rollin, they hatin!

  • This is very cool. Haha...fantastic!

  • If I had one of those contraptions when I was really little, I don't think I'd have bothered to learn to walk.

  • that was awesome :D but it think it should only be for special needs babies... or possibly as a toy :D not a way to replace physical activity in any major way... that would be bad for the little thingies... :D

  • cool

  • Wow, thats gonna be a cool kid... he's gonna drive before anyone else! :)

  • That'll be soo cool

  • Put him in a stroller.

  • Two years hate being in strollers they can't control. It wouldn't be fair to him or his family.

  • that ain't right ! kids will become more lazy ! They won't learn how to walk ! They could even get a muscle atrophy

  • apparently you didn't listen to the video.

this is for children for walking disabilities. It's supposed to substitute for kids while they get therapy to have the ability to walk.

  • i guess hes trying to say the kid will be like, "why walk, i can roll"....however i am on both sides. its nice they can get around however, i see the potential of laziness becoming an issue, or a parent thats just like "f*** it, he can roll" and the parent becoming lazy....youd be shocked what parents will do....

  • I was wondering exactly same...

  • this chairs are for kids with problems?

  • Yes, the kid has spinal bifida.

  • Oh ,right , sems very useful this kind of chair :)

  • Hi Terry, Finally a "normal" response at the top of some idiots below. Congratulations on your efforts for you and Andrew, and lots of hope and prayers for you and your efforts in this ground-breaking efforts for parents in similar situations. God bless, and congrats on the good you're doing. Way to go Andrew!!!! -- Dave in Ottawa, Canada

  • Should do wonders for muscle atrophy.

  • Very interesting

  • Nice...

    great vid.

  • WOW thats great

  • timmy!

  • Producer's note: Andrew is getting intensive physical therapy also. Since he started using power mobility he is even more enthusiastic about physical therapy.

In the meantime power mobility allows him to be where his siblings and his friends are.

Regarding safety, the robotic wheelchair was tested in the lab and the next phase of research will be in private homes. Adult supervision is always necessary. Even a normally developing toddler needs adult supervision at all times.

  • Yep I would probably cry every day but I would still enjoy running all of the other kids on the playground over! Probably a good thing I'm not that kid though... >:)

  • perca de tempo!

  • 0:48 seconds in. Oh yeah looks safe.

Some of these children were still infants. Now I'm not saying what they're doing isn't a good thing. But in some cases there have been miracles where a child has learned to walk, even with a walker or cane. My question is; isn't this just settling for the disability? As a parent wouldn't you try standard methods, therapy before giving up and buying a damn one year old a motorized wheel chair?

  • It's nice to know that technology is being put to good use.

  • i want one for my science fair project this year! A+

  • this is very cool.

and yet some of us take the simple act of walking for granted.

i do hope he walks one day soon. ^_^

  • Wow!! That so COOL!

It's a wonderful invention and I am so glad for the boy.

    I wish I had that when I was a kid. :)

  • am so happy for him!!!!

  • very good!!!!!!!!!

  • Spina bifida = not genetic

  • that kid is already smarter than you are.

  • i know they mean well, but i think the babies should learn to walk on their own time. even if it takes a couple of more years. Unless they can never walk then I understand.

  • soon baby will get plane and for this chair ,does they need permy

  • wow I wish I was this kid

  • no you wouldn't you have a disease....

  • fair enough you she wants him to walk and "feel" normal

but after sitting in a chair for a couple of years would leave his legs underdeveloped right?

if thats true then she would have to wait longer before he can walk by himself

  • Point more obvious things out please.

  • The chairs can move

  • new stephen hawkins...

  • CLICK ME FOR MYSTERY!!!!!!!!

  • wtf?

  • you coudnt do any sports with that

  • "you coudnt do any sports with that "

what about baby robot racing, polo, mobile chess... ;)

  • If I had a chair like like, why would I want to learn to walk? We can hope a good life for kids like this irreguardless.

  • Wow, I would at least give them some roll cage.

  • hahaha nice!

  • awesome...

  • I would be worried with my kid's feet and legs sticking out in front like that. I would at least want some sort of bumper.

  • Bucknik

When I was in a wheel chair a few years back I thought the same thing while in my wheelchair. Ofcourse it was one of the man powered ones - use your arms - but its was still terrifing but then I had 2 broken legs sticking out in front of me. happy for the kid though! Hope he can walk soon

  • that is fantastic

  • sweet ride, kid
