Fruit beers are really polarizing, people either love them or hate them. I'm a big Sam Adams guy and while I'll drink this beer for a change of tastes, it's not my favorite by them. But I really like your reviews man, very down to earth and not beer-snobby at all!

yea sam adams was a big breathrough beer in the united states in the 1980s and sometimes you wonder what is happening to them. It's like if you listen to those great Gato barbieri jazz lps from the 60s and later. Well i liked them before they sucked.
Every reviewer seems to only talk about the cherry taste, and nothing else. Would you say that the taste of the cherry/cough syrup masks the malt/hops taste of the beer, or is it still present?
I think the cough syrup description might be a bit extreme, I didn't get that. It wasn't great, but I could finish it without cringing. Just had 1 bottle from a pick-six. Probably won't have again though.
Heh, this is probably the only beer that I've struggled to finish drinking. I bought a six pack a couple years ago and I had the same reaction you did, I thought I was drinking cough syrup with alcohol. I only drank one and gave the rest to my brother. Horrible taste. I recently found some left-over SA Ocktoberfest........ I'm so happy.
Obviously this beer didn't gel with the big fella.Others may like it though.Sam Adams beers are not readily obtainable in the UK,but I have had Boston Lager and can say along with Brooklyn Lager the 2 beers are as good as any of their style.Another great review one in an inimitable style making these the best beer postings on Youtube.

cherry wheat is in my regular rotation of beers i get, and its my favorite of the sam adams collection. i dont get the cough syrup connection at all. maybe the smell i can see you saying but the taste i dont taste a connection.

its true.. I am 18 and came to germany... the beer drinking age is 16, and all the teens ive met here all drink responsibly. It is taboo here to drink and drive. America is just run by religious conseratives who have no dam idea.

You're right about the SACWA. If you want to try a good "fruity" wheat ale, look up Lancaster Brewing Company's "Strawberry Wheat Ale." It sounds gross, but is awesome.

With your scoring method i would say it is even no thumbs up or down more cherry in the smell than the taste, would I drank it again if it is already at the party why not it is a beer. Buy it again no.
This beer is fuckin Terrible... Ive had this beer in my fridge for over a month...fuck that beer and you said the same thing i said when I drank it for the first time it tasted like nyquil or something.... yuck

The cherry is out of balance with the rest of the beer, but I like this beer because I like wheat beers. Having said that, if given a choice, I'd take a Hefeweizen over this.
so i tried this beer last night. wanted something new. the color was real nice. smell was also nice. u really get a hint of cherrries. i really wasent expecting the taste. very carbonated you get the wheat tast then a very nice cherry hint at the end. in my opinion the cherry taste at the end taste like cherry skins. and has very little after taste which does it well. you either like this beer or hate it. this is now in my top 5 beers. it just goes great with food.

I think it's false to compare it to cough drops. The cherry flavor in this beer is genuine. Not the artificial cherry flavor you get with cough medicine. And there is a difference. To each their own though. I like it.
Think I had the same impression as you about the taste when I tried it last year. Just reminded me too much of cherry flavored cough syrup. I'm not really a big fan of fruit flavored beer though, I did have a blueberry beer once that I really enjoyed though. Just wish I could remember the name of it. Only thing i remember about it is it had something like 10.4% Alc.
I hate fruit beers too. Apparently though, there are many, many people who like this beer because it is probably one of the most available Samuel Adams Brewmasters beers out there. I guess some people just like fruity beer. Considering how many people love bud, miller & corona I guess its not that surprising that the general population has that bad a taste...
I drank this beer for the first time today and I liked it. It's served on tap at the bar that I work at and it seemed like an interesting beer so I bought a six pack. While I will agree the cherry flavor tastes somewhat "fake" -- eat a real cherry and you won't taste what's in the beer -- I don't feel it overpowers the beer. I liked this beer more that Sam Adam's summer ale. I feel your rating was a little too harsh. I would give two thumbs down to Guinness of Amstel light.

It is pretty bad, I am not a big fan of fruity beers either, that is why i don't like wheat beers all that much because sometimes they are way too fruity.
Haha I didn't like this brew that much. I have listened to a interview with Jim Koch and he is proud of this beer and the cherries they get from Michigan. But I still don't like it that much.

I'm here with ya on that one. The cherry flavor is so overwhelming that it overpowers any genuine wheat beer status in there. I don't have a beer rating per say but if I used yours it would definitely be two thumbs down. Why do people like it so much? Perhaps because it is a step above most domestic pilsners like bud, etc. Again, nice vid and good call.
The proper Belgian fruit styled stuff can be quite bitter but have a sweet after taste sometimes; I've had Ales which were quite fruity - the fruit doesn't always overwhelm the taste of the hops, or what ever it's brewed with, but I guess it can be determined by what you like as a beer and what you like as a drink...
I don't like fruity beers for my personal consumption. But I can review them and give a fair opinion. I just didn't think this was a good beer, But I do encourage others to try it for themselves cuz you might love it. I don't think temp. would help this beer at all. I really liked the flavor of this beer! I've always thought it was odd how people say the cherry in this beer tastes artificial when in fact it's the real deal. It says right on the bottle that the cherry flavor is from Michigan cherries that they brew the beer with.
With that said, when I tried it the cherry flavor was pretty overpowering; it was masking the beer flavor to an extent. Overall it wasn't terrible, but I definitly wouldn't spend money buying a six pack of it.
I find fruity beers to be a bit of a novelty, most beer lovers that I know don't enjoy them very much. A fruity wheat beer just sounds like a bad idea. I would think that fruit would be more enjoyable in like a porter or something like that.
That's weird, out of a six pack they all tasted different. I wonder why there's the discrepncy? That's why you should buy it in a mix pack so you only get 2.

Yeah, this beer's not that great... its all hyped up because I believe it was marketed towards women/men who don't drink beer... its essentially the same as saranac pomegranate wheat and other fruit beers
Totally agree with you man. The first time I tried this was at a brewers festival, and I loved it at the time. But I later realized this wasn't because the beer was good, but because I had been drinking 9%+ ABV IPA samples for the past hour and I guess I just needed something light right then. On more recent tastings, I found it to taste like a "blah" kind of beer with a crappy artificial cherry flavoring. I sure hope you like the Kriek Lambic though.
I have had a few beers that I just could not drink and had to pour down the drain. But this one I just did the best I could and drank the whole thing.
I actually like the cherry wheat, with that said, thank you for reviewing it, but I must respectfully disagree with your opinion.

I really liked the Cherry Wheat, even though I find it a touch too similar to Robitussin at times.
I know you're a Guinness fan. Perhaps you would prefer a Black Cherry -- Guinness floated on top of a Cherry Wheat, like a Black 'n Tan.

I only had two of these beers, n they were not bad.

so i tried this beer last night. wanted something new. the color was real nice. smell was also nice. u really get a hint of cherrries. i really wasent expecting the taste. very carbonated you get the wheat tast then a very nice cherry hint at the end. in my opinion the cherry taste at the end taste like cherry skins. and has very little after taste which does it well. you either like this beer or hate it. this is now in my top 5 beers. it just goes great with food.

I have to disagree with your critique, but, interestingly, I can't really get upset because you do it in such a nice and funny way. I really love Cherry Wheat but I'll check out more of your videos. Gonna watch your take on my all time favorite next--Guinness.

I think it's false to compare it to cough drops. The cherry flavor in this beer is genuine. Not the artificial cherry flavor you get with cough medicine. And there is a difference. To each their own though. I like it.

Think I had the same impression as you about the taste when I tried it last year. Just reminded me too much of cherry flavored cough syrup. I'm not really a big fan of fruit flavored beer though, I did have a blueberry beer once that I really enjoyed though. Just wish I could remember the name of it. Only thing i remember about it is it had something like 10.4% Alc.

I hate fruit beers too. Apparently though, there are many, many people who like this beer because it is probably one of the most available Samuel Adams Brewmasters beers out there. I guess some people just like fruity beer. Considering how many people love bud, miller & corona I guess its not that surprising that the general population has that bad a taste...

I drank this beer for the first time today and I liked it. It's served on tap at the bar that I work at and it seemed like an interesting beer so I bought a six pack. While I will agree the cherry flavor tastes somewhat "fake" -- eat a real cherry and you won't taste what's in the beer -- I don't feel it overpowers the beer. I liked this beer more that Sam Adam's summer ale. I feel your rating was a little too harsh. I would give two thumbs down to Guinness of Amstel light.

It is pretty bad, I am not a big fan of fruity beers either, that is why i don't like wheat beers all that much because sometimes they are way too fruity.

Haha I didn't like this brew that much. I have listened to a interview with Jim Koch and he is proud of this beer and the cherries they get from Michigan. But I still don't like it that much.

I'm here with ya on that one. The cherry flavor is so overwhelming that it overpowers any genuine wheat beer status in there. I don't have a beer rating per say but if I used yours it would definitely be two thumbs down. Why do people like it so much? Perhaps because it is a step above most domestic pilsners like bud, etc. Again, nice vid and good call.

The proper Belgian fruit styled stuff can be quite bitter but have a sweet after taste sometimes; I've had Ales which were quite fruity - the fruit doesn't always overwhelm the taste of the hops, or what ever it's brewed with, but I guess it can be determined by what you like as a beer and what you like as a drink...

This is a beer I think is far far better at room temperature. I haven't had it in quite a few years but do remember I only liked them warm.

I don't like fruity beers for my personal consumption. But I can review them and give a fair opinion. I really liked the flavor of this beer! I also enjoy drinking cherry vinegar, cherry battery acid, cherry windex glass cleaner, cherry ipecac, cherry weed killer, cherry castor oil, cherry drano, cherry aresenic, cherry premium gasoline, cherry pickle juice, cherry enemas and my favorite just 2nd to the Sam Adams Cherry Wheat is cherry horse urine!
WTF was Sammy thinking when they marketed this shit? I got an idea, how about Broccoli Cheese flavored Chocolate Stout? Hell Yeah!

I've always thought it was odd how people say the cherry in this beer tastes artificial when in fact it's the real deal. It says right on the bottle that the cherry flavor is from Michigan cherries that they brew the beer with.
With that said, when I tried it the cherry flavor was pretty overpowering; it was masking the beer flavor to an extent. Overall it wasn't terrible, but I definitly wouldn't spend money buying a six pack of it.

I find fruity beers to be a bit of a novelty, most beer lovers that I know don't enjoy them very much. A fruity wheat beer just sounds like a bad idea. I would think that fruit would be more enjoyable in like a porter or something like that.

That's weird, out of a six pack they all tasted different. I wonder why there's the discrepncy? That's why you should buy it in a mix pack so you only get 2.
I had this last year and thought it was OK. The cherry wasn't that strong.
It's a CHICK drink, so what do you expect?

Yeah, this beer's not that great... its all hyped up because I believe it was marketed towards women/men who don't drink beer... its essentially the same as saranac pomegranate wheat and other fruit beers

Totally agree with you man. The first time I tried this was at a brewers festival, and I loved it at the time. But I later realized this wasn't because the beer was good, but because I had been drinking 9%+ ABV IPA samples for the past hour and I guess I just needed something light right then. On more recent tastings, I found it to taste like a "blah" kind of beer with a crappy artificial cherry flavoring. I sure hope you like the Kriek Lambic though.
