@adsbegone listen to the lyrics carefully the reason that he sings the chorus so many times is to emphsize the first stanza of the song which is i dont have to sell my soul becuase HE IS ALREADY IN ME the chorus emphsizes the first stanzas premise which is i dont have to sell my soul to the devil becuase he is already in me the singer is saying the devil is inside him and that it wants to be adored which is true the devil wants to be adored by humanity not hated.

A beautiful song from a brilliant album. But it was so good that 100% of the band's creative talent was exhausted in one go - the well had run dry as evidenced by the second (and final) album a few years later. However,I think it's best to know when to stop so the good stuff remains in peoples' minds and the tragic embarrassment of going through the motions by releasing dross to keep the bank account topped up is avoided. Look what happened to poor REM.
