  • 38 people don't dance on Sabbaths.

  • I remember singing this in primary school!

  • THE M O S T IMPORTANT MESSAGE IN THIS SONG IS THAT T H E LORD JESUS CHRIST IS THE ONE TRUE,LIVING AND ETERNAL GOD, ETERNALLY, THIS IS HIS WORLD, WE ARE AND ALL IN IT HIS CREATIONS, HE LEADS, WE ARE ALL AND HE ALWAYS WILL BE, I PRAY ALL ACCEPT THIS, ALL CREDIT,PRAISE AND GLORY ARE HIS ETERNALLY, I LOVE YOU BLESSED FATHER, AMEN.

I don't know what song Sheahan sings.

  • Not many people know that before each concert a sequence of songs is programmed into Barney's head and off to nod land he goes. The rest of the band must then keep up because Barney will start playing anyway. Thanks for your good wishes and I hope you had a good one too.Peace and happiness to all.

Merry Christmas, all (and have yourselves an Irish little Christmas!!! ^___^).

  • great english song .... we used sing this at school in england

  • @TheTwollocks You're right, it's an old English song, written by an English Minister or Reverand, but good to see that it's carried on in this way. Irish traditional music is strong now, would be good to see English traditional music to make a return like ours did, for all our differences we are very similar in many ways :)

  • @orbcon - Nice to see our nations getting along at last

  • @orbcon Well English or Irish folk - the origins are basically the same...?!!

  • ...carefreee... :) CTID!

  • If memory seves, my teacher had another version of this song that she played in kindergarten, as a world music tour type thing.

  • first time i ever heard this song was when i first went to england, it reminds me of some of the happiest times of my life :)

  • The dancing on the sabbath part IS one of the religious parts...it's talking about how Jesus thought it was okay to heal, help, etc. on the sabbath even though working on the sabbath wasn't allowed. ("Danced" in this song usually refers to several things at a time. Rejoicing is dancing, doing God's work is dancing, etc.)

(Anyway one neat thing about this song is, it actually IS a Christian church hymn, AND it has things in it that can appeal to pagans also...I love that. ^_^)

  • @KittyStarlight the whole song is relgious

  • This was my parents' wedding song. Pretty sure I've been hearing it since the womb.

  • Lol we sing this in church! :D

  • Frenchman loving this song, does this sound odd ?... 'Cause I love it !! :)

  • Live in the Opera house in Belfast I think?

  • :D I love this song, fond memories from primary school ^_^

  • "Yoiu don't need us!" XD

  • wonderful !!!!!!!! greetings from Germany

  • to KittyStarlight, you say that there is much Pagan symbolism in the birth and resurrection of Christ; I'm sorry, but that is incorrect. Many people have made the claim of Pagan influence on Christian theology (such as the Egyptian myth of Horus) but each claim can be countered. The other thing to remember is that many of the "Mystery Religions" which are used as the basis for this claim are younger than Christianity, and probably used the popularity of Christianity to gain converts themselves

  • What is this ridiculousness? Why do I like it?

  • i like !!!

  • ...I have asked this before........Who is the player stage left .

  • @cuteoldguy from left to right: Barney McKenna, John Sheahan, Jim McCann, Seán Cannon, Paddy Reilly and Eamonn Campbell. In this setup; Barney McKenna and John Sheahan are founding members of the band.

  • I danced in the morning when the word was begun, I danced in the moon and the stars and the sun. I came down from heaven and I danced on the earth, at Bethlehem I had my Birth. (Chorus) I danced for the scribe and the pharisee but they would not dance and they wouldn't follow me. I danced for the fishermen, For James and John, they came w/ me and the dance went on. (chorus) I danced on the sabath and I cured the lame, the holy people said it was a shame (continue)

  • They, whipped, and they stripped and they hung me high and they left me there on a cross to die. (chorus) I danced on a friday when the sky turned black, Its hard to dance with the devil on your back. They buried my body and they thought I'd gone, But I am the dance and I still go on! (chorus) They me down and I lept up high, I am the life and I'll never, ever die, I'll live in you if you live in me, I am the lord of the dance said he. (chorus!!!)

  • If u want to know who the Dubliners were, these are their names:

Barney McKenna (seated, playing banjo), John Sheehan (fiddle), Jim McCann (guitar), Sean Cannon (guitar), Ronnie Drew (empty microphone), Paddy Reilly (guitar), Eamon Campbell (guitar, mop of white hair!)

  • Michael Flatley made 33 accounts because he is jelly of the lord of the dance #LOL

  • Love this song and this version especially!

  • God I love this song.

  • only irish folk music can make the banjo not irritating. haha

  • @YHaveUForsakenMe Indeed the best Banjo players, the dubliners are the best,in north africa we also use much banjo playing in the Algerian folk music but not like this.

  • I love this song! Best wishes from Florence!

  • I love this song.

  • im in loveeee

  • Schon komisch,

  • @jever008

the microphone that was empty was Ronnie Drew's microphone, he was on his break then. It was a feature of Dubliners, they did take breaks.

  • Mind how you go, Young Son, and a blessing on your house, and all!

  • A FEW PINTS NOW, AND UP YA BOY.........

  • I love ! ♥

  • love this, takes me back to school, proud, 100% english christian,

I wonder what hell is like?

  • @johnfoconnor

Hell's like Lady Gaga, Avril Lavigne, Justin Bieber, ah you get the point...

  • @BigglesPlejaren Happy birthday, priest Biggles. I hope your day is good and enjoy it. Also, congratulations on getting to 200,000 subscribers. I would be subscribed to you but you blocked me. I do wish you would forgive me for my sins.

This is a concert that was recorded after Ronnie's, Luke's ad Ciran's passing. The three original members of the original group (Dubliners) that remain are Barney McKenna (banjo) John Sheahan (fiddle) and Eamonn Campbell (mandolin, guitar).

The lineup (l-r) is Barney, John, Jim Mccan, Sean Cannon, Paddy Reilly and Eamonn.

  • @BoudiccaBlanc no, this is the 40th anniversary. check out the other videos. theres other videos of this event ronnie is in a pink shirt. i was just wondering if he took a break or what.

    /watch?v=DTmFXnWAy4w

I guess he was taking a break. :-)

40th Anniversery? (That would be 2002.)

Patsy Watchorn joined the group in 2005. (He used to be in the Dublin City Ramblers).

Hmm... Come to think of it; Eamonn wasn't in the group in the 1960s or 1980s..

Gosh, it's hard to believe that I am old enough to have seen the Dubliners, The Clancy Brothers, the Beatles and Elvis "Live" :-P
