Correct, there's no clutch; and sometimes I do to make shifting a little smoother, but it's not necessary.

Only sometimes, most of the time I just listen to the engine and change when the time comes. Of course, it helps to be familiar with the car's gear ratios, I generally do better in cars I'm used to.

My tip: start small. Use manual at the start of the game when you're stuck driving slow, shitty cars. That'll give you plenty of room for error and by the time you get into the faster vehicles you should be practiced enough that won't even think about changing gears, you'll just do it. :)

I don't believe so, but I have noticed when i slow down so fast (lets say from 5th gear to 1st gear) it lags and still shows me in 5th gear and takes a good 2 seconds of time to switch back to first real quick.
