  • one of the best DVDs I own!

  • bruce looking for lungs at 2:30

  • I would be willing to bet that '75 Hammersmith Odeon DVD is untouchably hot.

  • I LOVEEEEE this song!!!!!!! One of my favorites!!!! specially the guitar solo!!! WOOHOOO THE BOSS!!!!!

  • MIAMI STEVE!!!!!!!!

  • Your heart starts beatin' faster as you struggle to your feet

Then you're outa that hole and back up on the street

And them South Side sisters sure look pretty

The cripple on the corner cries out, "Nickels for your pity."

And them downtown boys sure talk gritty

It's so hard to be a saint in the city

  • Them gasoline boys downtown sure talk gritty

It's so hard to be a saint in the city

I was the king of the alley, mama, I could talk some trash

I was the prince of the paupers crowned downtown at the beggar's bash

I was the pimp's main prophet I kept everything cool

Just a backstreet gambler with the luck to lose

And when the heat came down it was left on the ground

The devil appeared like Jesus through the steam in the street

Showin' me a hand I knew even the cops couldn't beat

  • I had skin like leather and the diamond-hard look of a cobra

I was born blue and weathered but I burst just like a supernova

I could walk like Brando right into the sun

Then dance just like a Casanova

With my blackjack and jacket and hair slicked sweet

Silver star studs on my duds just like a Harley in heat

When I strut down the street I could hear its heart beat

The sisters fell back and said, "Don't that man look pretty."

The cripple on the corner cried out, "Nickels for your pity."

  • @makehope Hi, is there a DVD with this whole concert, or pieces of it??

  • This video is a jewel.

  • This is fucking brilliant

  • love this experimental unrifined e-street n bruce lookin' like some old bum, with clarence blowing big, man

  • Goodbye and you are a spirit in the night my main big man! love respect and honor to you....

  • Goodbye Big Man.

  • Check out Clarence Clemons in the background in the white suit and top hat, jamming on the sax. He was always the coolest guy on stage.

  • One of the best rock and roll songs ever written. Sax of the 50's, Great lyrics, soulfull melody, beautiful piano, great singing, a lastly great duel hardrocking guitars. for me this doesn't get much better. It has a little bit of everything. Just pure Rock and Roll.

  • best version ever !

  • Is there a full show of the 2nd night? The DVD is one of my fav. concerts ever. Never much of a Springsteen fan until I saw that. Then I really got it.

  • @margowsky Is there a DVD with this show??

  • @jericoacoara There's a DVD of the night before this one. Look up "Bruce Springsteen Hammersmith Odeon, London '75 DVD". Google it, or go to Amazon. One of my all time favorite shows by anyone, ever.

  • Brilliant performance...this was Bruce at his best. Just on fire.

  • pure...perfect

  • Pete Townshend was in the audience that night and requested that Springsteen play this song.

  • @robertd98 You gotta be kidding? Right?

  • @xtrm1 Not hardly, but thanks for asking. The music is awesome; I can't stand his 'singing.' In this vid he reminds me of the homeless guy who lives in an alley behind my office building, passing the time throwing feces at tourists. Sometimes if I see him on the way to my car and he's sleeping, I'll walk up and pour the cold remnants of that morning's coffee on his head and spit on his face.

  • @robertd98 Epic

  • so raw, so pure, so Bruce, 70s man, miss em. thanks for posting and transporting us! love the dynamics through this song. Prince of the paupers...

  • To think He only sold 20 000 copies, orginally, of the album.

  • fellow jersey boy....

  • Who uploads the hammersmith Odeon concert '75 back on you tube?

  • @arendsbert It was already there, appearently fucking Sony had it cancelled.

  • nice hat

  • @artstarnyc1 : u mean Little Steven, right? ;)

  • Amazing...

  • That duel is one of the best things rock n roll has, and ever will see.

  • "The Devil appeared through the steam in the street. And he showed me a hand I knew even the cops couldn't beat..." Woof....great stuff man.

  • @kaninz Don't quote me on it, but I think it's actually, "The Devil appeared like Jesus through the steam in the street..." which I have always found to be one of the great lines ever in rock lyrics. The Boss was a damn fine poet in his young early days.

  • i love bruce un my soul

  • That is the Bruce that make a legend of himself. Never give up this video for anything !

  • I was there and i'm 17

  • Love Little Steven, but B. just "smokes" him in the "dueling-guitar" segment.

  • Brilliant... from the minute 2:50 is specially great , the song going down almost until the silence... and then... brrr the guitars...FUCKING GOOD!!

    LA OSTIA in spanish...

  • I like this version of it better by him.

  • BREATHLESS!!

  • Killer vid!

  • 5 stars duh!

Thanks for posting....one my favorite favorite songs-performances.
