I can't begin to tell you how much I regret clicking this vid...what a terrible cover; this womans style is forced, lazy and lacks any emotion or feeling...this song is a poem and homage to a great man and deserves at the very least to be annunciated correctly, rather than slurred like a bar room slapper...i feel violated by this abortion.

A very distinctive voice. Soft jazzy sort of feel.. very beautiful. The fact that Vincent was really influenced by Oriental Art near the end of his life. Had a passion for there style and tried to emulate it in his work. The song seems to eulogize his work. Also the fact that many of his original works adorn the nameless walls in upper class oriental society seems to be a thank you from them to him. Thanks to A91215023 for this. Ms. Wang gives a fine performance of McLean's sequel to "American Pie" (he recorded "Vincent" the following year). It only reached #12 in the US, while hitting #1 in the UK. Judging by many of the comments, methinks too many people pseudo-intellectualize songs, rather than enjoying them and their performance. It's hard to understand this song if you don't know the context in which it was written. This song was about a Dutch artist named Vincent Van Gogh, whose magnum opus was a painting names Starry Night. Essentially, he was not recognised for his work in his lifetime, only managing to sell two pieces of work. He had bipolar disorder and depression, and committed suicide. This song details both his character, suffering, and some of his pieces of work.
