@sadknife I'd imagine the easiest way would be to turning it back to 1, assuming you're editing the .ini ;) Unless it's the splashscreen causing issues in the first place, and you've turned it off for some other reason
@smunn02 Alright I fixed it, thanks. Although now it's updating the game to v 1.4 a version that's actually playable, it's protected by the way it's currently version 1.1 although after I installed the patch it still says that it's only version 1.1...
@sadknife To be honest, I think any patches from now on are going to be very sporadic and could well be user-created. The game itself is five years old, and JoWood went out of business - they've been bought out by Nordic but there are unlikely to be any new The Guild games/expansions (booo). The one glimmer of hope is that many of the developers are huge fans of the game and have worked on patches etc for free and in their own time. There's talk of community buying the Guild engine & paying devs
@sadknife ...paying devs to create a new something-or-other. It's unlikely to ever come off, but it's a distant possibility (unless Nordic decide it's worth making a new one).
Hey, my character recently contracted a disease called "Rotting Tooth", or some disease close to that name. Whenever I go to the clinic, the doctors keep saying that they can't heal me due to lack of medicine. How do I cure my character of diseases??????? Thanks!
@Thewhiteronin Rotting Tooth is cured by Pain Relief (or whatever it's called), which is a pretty expensive and low-quantity item created by hospitals. It often isn't in stock so you should try all other hospitals in the map. At a last resort you can create your own hospital and make some - but that's very last resort!
I have a question.... I got "The Renaissance" add-on, and I'm playing "the North sea" campagin, and I wounder how my Town "upgrades"? I'm the town Major, but not a thing happens with the town? Pleas help. And sorry my English.
But do you mind if I'm asking a simple question again?
I got three kids (on the same file as i talked about before) Two of them are 16 and the last one 8. But when to they come to age there I can put them to work? 18?
@Sandberg95 You can add any member of the family over the age of 16, but they start off on their own - you can't get them to work in the business of another member of the family.
@smunn02 Thx again! I managed to get my daugther on the team, but my son was freezen on one place all the time since he were 13 or something so I could'nt do anything with him... Now that sucked.
@smunn02 It is an absolute shame that you can't put your own family members to work with you. To start, that kind of thing was common in medieval times (the whole family working in the same workplace). But the real problem is that when you first get married you usually have a single workplace, and you can't put your wife to help you out with production, etc.
@Owneador1337 Would be very easy to exploit though wouldn't it. Not at the start of the game but further on..it's pretty easy to get yourself 8, 9, 10 children...if you added one of the children at a time and hoiked up their stats then removed them from the active players, and did it to each you could have two, three businesses working with very highly skilled workers - not to mention that if you used the "mentor" skill, you'd effectively be giving your entire family a huge XP boost.
@Owneador1337 ...now imagine doing that with 3 active characters, each with a spouse and 8+ children. You'd end up having an army of a workforce. It'd be hard work to exploit it yes, but it'd certainly be a game-spoiler. But yes, I agree with you for an authenticity point of view it's certainly not in keeping with reality. Of course, women were -able- to take offices (if their birth/statuses) allowed it back then, it's only in the 18th-20th century women suddenly became very unequal.
@smunn02 Yes but if you, say, have a tavern, you can't even put your wife to work as a waitress or a cook while you do the rest of the job. And usually your first wife is an absolute failure in terms of stats, so you wouldn't want to assign her as the head of a job until she levels up a couple of times.
I don't really see any problems in not having employees and having your wife and 3 children handle the hospital while you get into politics and intrigues. Why is that bad?
@Owneador1337 I don't know, you'd really have to ask the RuneForge guys on the Steam forum, they answer this stuff pretty well. Patch is due to come out today so they may be busy though. It's certainly something that'd help a lot at the beginning of the game; maybe they'd restrict children being employed but allow spouses...that'd seem a nice middleground.
I've got a question; I have a foundry, I'm a level 5 craftsman and nobleman title, with the money to pay for it, but I cannot upgrade to a weapon smith... ?
Any idea why this would be? The wife is a patron and has her farm and everything, so i've got everything I need to make longswords/armor i just can't upgrade it now ; /
Thanks for the response. I actually solved the problem about 30m after asking; turns out I just had to make my craftsman "owner" of the foundry and then he could upgrade it.
With that said, I do have another question; is it unusual for partners (wives, children) to level up really slowly? My wife is level 2 (just) and main character is almost 7, he seems to get all the experience. It's frustrating me because I can't get her patron stuff upgraded due to requirements.
@Vire70 Yes, they often do level very slowly. The best thing for XP is, cash permitting, giving workers a bonus. If you've got enough cash, then by giving a bonus every hour and goading them whenever you can, you can pile up the XP very, very quickly. Alternatively, buying titles at the town hall gives XP - just make sure you send the person you want to recieve the XP. Finally, a quickfire but more expensive way is using artifacts from the market.
Thanks! I'll try those out. I was looking at poems before and noticed the description says it gives experience. I've yet to find out how to actually read one to someone though; I tried giving it to someone and they slapped me and said not to give them rubbish, lol!
@Vire70 Have it in your inventory, and it'll appear as an action on your action bar - click and it'll ask who you want to read it to. Yes I'm afraid especially as the game goes on, people like more and more expensive presents...much like some women I know..
@Vire70 ..with children, their stats are calculated by the parents stats at the moment of birth, and do not change through school, apprenticeship or anything like that. The best way to ensure a high-stat child (and make it easier when you take them over) is to just have one child as an emergency backup, and then when you think you're due to die soon, go and adopt some from the Monastery. Use some skill raising artifacts before you do and the child will probably be some sort of genius.
@UseHACK The same way as you build your first one - but you need to make sure your Title allows it. To upgrade your title (costs more each time but allows you higher seats of office, more businesses and buildings, more priveleges and so on) you need to go to the Town Hall and use the green action "buy title". First one costs 500 gold, then 2,500, then 10,000, then 25,000 and so on :)
@K33LEY Totally agree. Although "Renaissance" adds a lot to the game, the removal of the tutorial is absolutely ridiculous. This vid still covers most things though =)
@Frequent2001 Yeah, I just bought Renaissance too ... I don't know what to do since this is my very first time playing a Guild game. Thanks for posting this. It somewhat shed some light as to what to do after creating your character. Why start out as a Patron. Other classes are not viable to start a game? I was hoping to become a smith. I was able to build a foundry then I don't know what to do after that, lol!
@wenzilber I have to agree; it was ridiculous of them not to include a tutorial since Renaissance is a standalone game. In any case (since buying it), none of the 'new' professions are really good for making cash - Patron with a pub is still ideal for new players, I think. The 'Gravedigger' is an interesting one that I've been experimenting with.
Luckily this video still covers pretty much everything :)
