Just gotta say, in regards to those pronouncing him the "best" expand your horizons. Listen to some Vai, or Satriani, or Gilbert, Buckethead, Yngwie, Pettrucci. There's an entire world of guitarists out there that I guarantee MOST of these listeners haven't bothered to explore. While you're at it check out the bassists like Geddy Lee, Les Claypool, and Billy Sheehan. Yes, this is good, but the best? Nothing of the sort. Not in my opinion.

to amend that frusciante is one of the best melody guitarists in the world...of course satch and vai have more technical skill, but that has never been johns' preference when it comes to guitar work...its all about emotion ad fitting the song rather than proving he's the best with some self indulgent wank of a guitar solo.

@Bayview05 Now Bayview, music is indeed subjective, and playing a fast solo does not necessarily mean it's self-indulgent, rather it often fits the music. Listen to Paul Gilbert's music, it ALWAYS focuses on melody, yes it often has faster licks than other such things, but that does not make him indulgent, it does not make him a show off, it just makes him more well practiced, and ultimately with a stronger sense of technique.

there is something about his music that is different from other solo artists. I think that it has something tto do with him not promoting his music because when most people come up with one okay song, it gets played on the radio all the time and gets annoting. I like Frusciante's music better than anyone else's cuz he doesn't care about fame. all he cares about is writing beautiful songs. Its sorta like a hidden gem
