  • Gettin some good tone out of that Yammie dog! What pickups are you runnin in there? Stock or aftermarket?

  • yeah it's ok

  • Hey Billy, Great chops and phrasing Thanks

  • i consider myself as a talented guitar player, but i still wish i could do the jazzy shit you do.

  • Smokin! Playing a guitar unaccompanied and holding an audience is a sure sign of a great guitarist. That you take the time and effort to share your skill and knowlege with these vidios says alot about you as a person. Thank you, it is greatly appreciated. Your helping me bring my playing level up a few notches.

    Best regards.

  • How could somebody dislike this? Beyond me. This guy is an amazing guitar player and thats that!

  • You are an amazing guitar player. Definitely one of the best I have heard. But there wasn't much soul put into that. I mean, sure not everybody can play licks that technical, but I think strumming a few chords can be more amazing than constantly soloing. After a while it just gets annoying.

  • wow!!! i could listen to that for hours - awsome

  • @raindogred THANK YOU!!!! -Billy

  • billy you are the jump blues rockabilly kid ,, i only wish i could do it , but at 55 i think to late to try..

  • @philjit1 Never too late to try..!!! Go for it..!! -Billy

  • @300guitars fantastic work...you have such command! Just fantastic Billy!

  • @qtofdog Thank you, thank you!!!! -Billy

  • I'm new to jump blues, but not new to blues as a genre... could anyone name some jump blues artists (Brian Setzer?)

  • @dvdsmlprstylr Essential to listen to Louis Jordan, Big Joe Turner, maybe some Bill Haley mid-fifties stuff eg birth of boogie, mickey baker (for guitar), Joe Houston (for sax)....

  • @bluemoonboy1956 Ahh, I'll look up Joe Houston and Mickey Baker. (Already have a load of Jordan's, Haley and Turner's music).

    Thanks

  • Nice! What's that chord at the end, exactly?

  • @pyannaguy Sounds like a maj9 to me

  • @jwright123456789 I think you're right - I just sat down and voiced it on the piano and there's definitely a C, F and an A floating around on top of the Bb root. Nice!

  • @pyannaguy maj76/9

  • That was killer playing! The backing band in your head keeps good time. Liked the riffs a lot.

  • Forgive my ignorance, but what is the meaning of "jump" blues?

    Fox

  • Ya!!! That was a bright spot in my day. Thanks for uploading Billy.

  • Great playing Billy. Very solid time and nice articulate lines. You are an inspiring musician. Thanks for posting this stuff.

  • Tremendous playing! I have a question. I have an AES1500B, the version with the Bigsby and long scale. How do the TV Jones PUPs compare? Are they splittable into single coil?

  • wow! Very inspiring.

  • Billy,

That was some tastey Meaty jump!

I am just starting yto learn some of those changes ( I play country and blues) and am expanding my vocabulary

  • those are definitely one of the best jazz guitar i've played.

  • amazing, i wich it was me playing the jump blues...

By far the the best jump blues on the net.

  • @bartyblues Thank you very kindly..!! -Billy

  • nice work man!!

  • FUCKING GOOD :D

  • billy, thanks for sharing this. you truly are gifted!!! jeff

  • @burgan30 Thank you very much for the kind words..!! I have a few other videos on my channel where I break down some of the parts. Did you see them? -Billy

  • This is so fun :) I recently found out about this genre and absolutely love it! Really enjoyed your playing!

  • @curlychronicles Thank you so much for your kind words..!! I really appreciate it..!!! Do you play guitar..?? -Billy

  • Billy I hope you realize how great of a player you are. You are right up there with Setzer, And I hope that's a compliment to you. Man I wish you were in my town so we cold hook up and teach me those licks. My hat is off to you you pal! I wanna learn this tune I love it

  • @scsibh Wow....thank you very much..!! I really appreciate your kind words..!! Where are you located? Have you seen my band videos yet....Inside Drivers? -Billy

  • Sigh. Superb playing. But just too darn hard. Some people just have talent. Back to the boring 3 chord garage.

  • @hammill444 No, no...don't give up..!!! Get just one of the licks and expand on it. Start with one...you can totally rock this..!! Feel free to ask me questions. Thanks for the kind words...!!! -Billy

  • Hi Billy,

We discussed about this guitar longtime ago. Actualy I got the same one in Orange with Powertron TV jones also.

I am not sure but I think that, at that timen you told me that you changed the frets of this guitar.

    Is it right?

    Which one do you use?

Actually, when I switch to this guitar my playing is "harder" as the fret seems to flat and/or to thin, compare to my duesenberg for example.

Thanks in advance for your reply.

    Nice job!

  • @maikeldos Thanks for the kind words..!! I did re-fret this guitar. I used wire that was .095 wide and .047 tall. I do not know the exact number but those are the dimensions. The bigger frets made a difference for sure. I also put a bone nut on it. Let me know if you need more info..!! -Billy

  • @300guitars

    Hi Bill,

Ijust want to know, what was the original size of the frets.

Doyou think that gibson frets will suit this guitar?

  • @maikeldos If I remember correctly the original width was about the same as the replacement fret wire .095. The height was low and may be due to the fact that they were dressed a time or two. I think Gibson wire should work. I get my wire from Stew Mac. -Billy

  • I actually would kill to be able to like that right now...

  • @samjklein Thanks for the kind words...please do not kill anyone please..!!! -Billy

  • Sweet !

  • WOW!! Love this style... Can you rec. the best way to learn about this playing style... either books, videos, or anything that would help to teach this style...

    thanks

    Mark

  • 1:12 Star Wars Cantina FTW!

  • Lovely playing but timekeeping is off.

  • Great T Bone Style!!!

  • Thank you very much!!!! -Billy

  • you can also go to one of the sites that saves YouTube vids and then have it on your computer and work on it without being online.

  • awesome man

  • Thank you!! -Billy

  • Billy,

can you break down the chords and fingerings specifically at 0:46 to 0:54 and also 1:42 to 1:50 of this clip?

    Thanks man. You sound great...

  • The chord stuff at 0:46 on is Eb9 Bbdim7 Ab7add9 Bb9 Cm7 Dm7 Dbm7 Cm7 F7#9 Bb7 G7#9 Cm7 F7#9 Hit me up for the tab some of these chords have different fingerings than you would think.

  • I would love the tab to any of them. Thanks so much for the offer. cheers

  • Billy,

    Excellent, swinging jump blues man!!!

The chord melody stuff you played there was out of sight.

Like leftystrat62 said, would you PLEASE share some info and break down some of the chords you are using to solo with over this progression? I think many of us would really appreciate it. Your playing is swinging and inspiring. Great job! Please hip us to some of those chords and some more swing/jump blues soloing techniques. Thanks a lot and keep up the good work...

  • I will be doing this shortly. I am surprised at the really great response. I will start posting with what leftystrat62 was talking about. Can you be more specific on what you want to see or hear explained? -Billy

  • Comment removed

  • Would you ever consider doing a lesson on this. Maybe explaining the what ,why's & how for the chords you choose, and showing some of those great licks. Love your playing! Cheers

  • Hi there and thanks for watching & the kind words. I am going to do some more videos like you're talking about. Can you tell me what parts of the video you like? Send me at what minute & seconds you like the part and I will try to shoot a video showing how I do it. Let me know!!!! -Billy

  • @300guitars Hi, that sounds great. The intro :10-15; 19-21; 29-33; chordal stuff:45-1:07; 1:36-1:60. I know some of the chords, but some I don't, and I love all the chords played together one after another. Some licks I can probably figure out,but their played so fast that it's hard for my brain to figure out what I'm hearing. You have such a nice playing style,I'd love to learn what ever your willing to share with your viewers. Thanks a bunch.

  • I will do this asap. I am gearing up for the NAMM show. Might shoot some tomorrow night then resume after the show. Please stay tuned....! Thanks! -Billy

  • The chord stuff 1:40 on are Bb7 A7#5 Ab13 G7#5 Cm7 F7#9 B7 G7#9 Hit me up if you want the tab

  • Tarnation! there's a whole lifetime in there... probably all i need to know...

  • Thanks! Let me know if you have any questions.....I am happy to answer them for you!! -Billy

  • That was great!

  • um wow!

  • awesome! :)

  • Very nice. More authentic feel, less 80's rock feel please. T-bone, man...

  • A little to over the top not swinging to many notes

  • Great playing. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Would love to learn this style . . . do you just have a repetitive type of repertoire of Runs in that Key or do you write this stuff ?

  • Very nice!! .. are there any tutorial videos/books you would recommend to learn to play jump? Some beautiful guitars you've got your hands on!!!

MY two guitars are both deArmond.. a Starfire custom and an M75t... They ain't Gretsches but they sound alright to me!!

    Greetings from Medellin, Colombia!

  • I do not know of any learning materials for learning jump blues music. I just picked everything I play up by ear, listening to lots of different players. Thanks alot!!

  • Check out Duke Robillard's instructional material and recordings

  • Wow! I wish I could play like that. I should have taken my guitar playing more serious as a youngster.

  • so its similar to a gibbo 60-s shape?

  • Yeah the '60s shape. Fast and on the slim side not like the full '50s profile.

  • great playing!

    what is the neck like?

    thanx

  • Approximately 1-11/16" wide and it is a bit thin near the nut and thickens up as you get toward the body. Similar to a Gibson SG neck (some of them anyway).

  • Hey, great (and I emphasize the word great) playing. Just wondering who a good artist would be to start learning some of the licks you just displayed. I'm an advanced player, but the only jump blues I know is Bryan Setzer

  • Thank you! Brian Setzer is a great one to listen to. T-Bone Walker is a greatone as well as some of Danny Gatton's recordings. Do a search and have fun!!!

  • Thanks a million.

  • Listen to Duke Robillard...he's an encyclopedia of this stuff and a great guitar player. He also has a bunch of instructional stuff out.

  • how easy is it change the pickups? i was thinking of doing the same to my epi wildkat. sweet playing too man

  • I guess everyone is different. some will find a pickup swap easy and some will find it challenging. I think it is an easy process but takes a little time because you have to remove strings, disassemble the guitar and reassemble the guitar. You can try it and if you get stuck email me on the site or ask in the forum. Last resort take it to the shop.

  • cheers, i'll probably try it some time. a mate of mine owns a guitar shop and does repairs so if i need to i can take it to him.

    Thanks again.

  • GREAT TONE! May I ask you what amp/speakers did you use in this video? I want to buy myself an amp to play this kind of sound (jump blues with little crunch). I already have an archtop with p90s but my marshall18 watts clone just don't satisfy me (it's great for rock and 70's though)...

  • Thank you very much! I actually replaced the original pickups in this guitar and put in TV Jones Powertrons. I did not like the originals that much. Too dark in humbucking mode and too thin when the coils were tapped. Now it is perfect!!

  • Wow! That guitar, and your playing, are the cat's meow! Did you have the coils tapped for that tone? Just awesome!

  • Hey how about breaking some of those licks down, so we can learn to put some together???

  • WOW I WOULD LIKE TO PLAY LIKE YOU !!!

  • Muchas gracias!

  • Wow! From Spain a big óle! Amazing.

  • Oh, I'm a nut alright...Thank you!!

  • your a nut. that was some crazy playing

  • Thank you very much! More to come so stay tuned...

  • you rock man keep it up! :D

  • Thank you very much!!!

  • You are awesome.

  • Hi Michael. I have the stop bar tailpiece screwed down to the top of the guitar and the strings go OVER the stop tailpiece as Gibson intended when it was first introduced in the 1950's. I have .010-.046 DR strings on the guitar. The Blues Nickel set. No straploks just the stock strap buttons. It is a cool guitar and covers alot of different styles of music. A winner in my opinion.

  • Hi Man

I live at thousands km from you and however I got this guitar in orange and...I have replace the pickup by TV Jones powertron too!!

What are your others little settings:

-Which string gauge do you use on this guitare

-do you screw the stop bar against the guitar table.

    - Do you put some strap lock on it?

    Regards,

    Michael

  • dude you fuckin rockkkkkkkkk

  • THANK YOU! More on the way soon!!!!!

  • It is a Yamaha AES1500. It is a cool guitar and has some unique features like a 25-1/2" scale, stop tailpiece and trestle-like bracing. I changed the stock pickups to TV Jones Powertrons and also put in RS pots. It is a great guitar and I was very surprised when I got it.

  • what kind of guitar is that?
