Last season we had 3x2k (2 with an 8 and one in two fours) for the 's races both boats won their races with one boat finishing .01 seconds and the other by about 11 after watching this video
Lsst season i had a 4 come in 2nd by less than a second. Our stroke lost his seat for literally one stroke.... the week before that, our 8 cane in 3rd by .03 seconds. That could be just human error in starting and stopping the clock (head races). 2 seasons of rowing and still no gold. Those were the most bitter moments of my life
I won my last race of the season by 0.1 seconds in spring i had 2 races that i won by even less 0.09 and 0.07 seconds. Live hard, Train harder, Race hardest. ...God damn i love this sport
the smallest things can fuck up your entire race.....just lost a race today by .5 seconds. losing like that makes you think about the one thing you could of done differently.
Head of the fish this weekend in saratoga, biggest race of the season except charles. Rowing 6 seat in the chaminade high school 3rd boat (jva) and planning on getting those inches and kicking the crap out of canisuis high school, my rival
@R4mb0R4g3 yeah i can understand fighting for that inch but u feel alone sometime when your on a single. there isnt another guy behind or in front saying come on 5 more and we will win!
i must say the arguement below really gave me some amusement. Obviously the 2 of u have some enormous egos, and i must say pendragom a national gold is really impressive in high school, and 95alex being the top 8 of a school is good only if you do well. Your both doing well for ur age but i must say the comment about a state championship in aus. vs the us is kinda of unfair 300 mil in the us/ 50 states=6mil/state 22mil is aus/8 state=just under 3 mil/state so technicaly by number its harder here
my coach always played this on the bus before every race..once i pushed off the dock and got on the line i replayed this in my head and repeat no regrets..this speech is such an inspiration
@AlexanderLeConquer I wasnt trying to attack his skill, I just got ticked off when we said i didn't know what i was talking about. Regardless, you have to agree with me that women in crew deserve just as much respect as men do, which is what set me off in the first place.
THIS SPEECH always gets me pumped before a race. THIS SPEECH makes me pull that little bit harder every stroke of the way. THIS SPEECH picks me up after a mistake or a bad race. i crabbed at nat schools this year and our boat lost. i was crushed. but THIS SPEECH inspired me to get up, and train harder.
truly inspirational for me. i am a junior rower, in a heavy 4+ with about 3 months of experience, and can pull a 6:59.3 2k, however my technique is not where i would like it to be. i find that when i tap down i am not getting the full tap down that i need, when most of the time i am hitting the gunwales. Also, i find that i am rushing the last 1/4 of the slide over a couple strokes. i would appreciate any help that anyone has to offer, as i would really like to make my summer teams "A" boat.
yesterday i got second at SRAAs by about 2 seconds. Sometimes even if you dedicate yourself to something (especially rowing) it doesnt work out the even though you tried your hardest to make it. 100% Resolution, 100% Determination
This video is very true. Yesterday at the SSRA Nationals we lost placing in the finals by .004 seconds. That's about the length of a quarter centimeter. I went my hardest but if everyone on my team wasn't willing to kill themselves, then in the end it doesn't matter.
I don't care who said this, and I don't care that this is a speech about the supposed glory of football. This is, and forever will be, a speech about rowing
We have a head race in 2 days at Cities. We gotta be top 6 out of 14 to advance and I know that this video helped me to realize that we can do it. We will win on Sunday.
@pendragon259 normally it dosent.... however rowing is something that people just cant take girls seriously in. Its a mans sport and guys go 10 times harder and faster than girls do at rowing. Their 2k ergo times are pathetic.... i could be in the australian women's eight with the time that i have for 2k.... that says something.
The magnitude of an accomplishement is not arbitrary. Rather it is in how much effort is employed in its achievement. So a six year who benchpresses 100 kg has achieved greater than a seasoned lifter who does the same, even if the latter could lift more weight. So then a woman who pushes her body to its limits where a man struggles less, for the same split time, is more admirable and is said to have achieved more.
You don't deserve a brain if your mouth works without its direction.
@95alex9 You could make 7 copies of yourself, put all 8 of you in a boat, and gets your asses kicked by that Australian Womens 8+. In fact, you could put the 8 kids with the fastest 2ks on your team in an 8+, and still get yours asses handed back to you. Rowing is strength, technique, and determination, not strength alone.
@95alex9 Furthermore, I can guarantee that my 2k time is better than yours, because you have no balls, and I'm only 5'6". But I wouldn't dare row in any world class women's boat because they'd rip me to shreds. If you think its all about strength and testosterone and 2k times, thats because you've had *maybe* 8 months rowing experience, judging by the birth year in your username, which is unoriginal. You're an underclassmen in high school. Shut up.
@pendragon259 You can guarantee that can you??? I thought the "magnitude of ones achievements" was not based on how good their times were, rather the effort they put in. And maybe 8 months try 3 years you fuckwit. I am a member of a schoolboys 1st eight and do you know why that is, because I have an amazing power to weight ratio. You are probably not aware of what this is because you clearly know little about rowing. Its a harsh sport, there is not "oh you tried your hardest and thats all thats
@pendragon259 ...and thats all that counts" and the fact that you haven't grasped this yet either shows that you are stupid or that you do not row at a high level... most likely both. You are a pathetic "wannabe". So shut your mouth when you know nothing about the subject.
@pendragon259 ...and thats all that counts" and the fact that you haven't grasped this yet either shows that you are stupid or that you do not row at a high level... most likely both. You are a pathetic "wannabe". So shut your mouth when you know nothing about the subject.
@95alex9 You're telling me I know nothing about rowing? You're saying women are pathetic at the sport, which is both sexist and entirely ignorant. And before you take shots at me, try this. I have 2 State Championship golds, 1 Stotesbury silver, 1 Philly Cities gold (and 1 bronze), 1 SRAA National Championship gold, and a Stotesbury gold. Where the hell do you row where girls are inferior? And...Schoolboys 8? Schoolboys? really?
My crew and I watched this video an hour before we raced in finals at the Florida State Championship. Such an inspiring speech; it helped us push ourselves to a level we never thought possible.
im stroking a boat on the adelaide head of the river. this video gives me even more motivation to want to do it, to want to win on that day, at the most important race of the year
i just came out of the rowing season for the brisbane GPS system, yeah Brisbane as in flooded Brisbane. this season changed everything and for the first time showed me rowing is a sport which makes men. 8 other boys become family. i dont even know why i row, its because i cant comtenplate not rowing, is a passion
Man, I wish I would have heard this before my first race! Maybe I should have my boat listen to this before our next race. I could only hope to be this inspirational to my boat when I cox them.
Works soo well with rowing! The margins for error are soo small, ...all about those inches. Got my first ever Head race tomorrow, this has got me totally pumped!
@BogdanF89 i agree with you, but what stinks if you keep watching it and watching it, it doesnt pump you up as much as the first 5 times you watched it, i love this vid but everytime i watch it, the intensity in my body watching it goes down each time.
@absegamifrosh8 no way ;p btw Canada is America as well. The country that I think comes out with the best athletes in rowing it`s New Zealand and I am not from NZ.
@hellerase well dude maybe for the 4man boats but they cant beat them in the 8man boats. no one cars about any other boats except 8's.. u base a team are 8man boats 4's quads doubles singles, are just the boats that are filled with the less experienced rowers
@absegamifrosh8 im gonna guess your american.. other countries prioritise boats into what they think will get them a gold, do you think every puts an 8 as teh top boat and thats all that matters even if they have 4 guys at a higher standard than teh rest of the squad?(not likely but its an exxagerated example) eg GB their 8 this year was more or less a development boat with a few experienced and a few young guys in it, the top boat for them was the pair, not many countries prio the 8 actually,
@srsly101 yea im American, i row in Highschool on the East side. Its all about the 8man boats where i row at. 4man boats truely dont get much over here. but if a Crew doesnt have enough guys to Fill a Competitve 8, 4 man is where you have to go. and i know some what but i truely dont read about this stuff about other countries like you do i guess.. good talk lol
@absegamifrosh8 idon't really read into it, i follow british interest cause im from britain and its common knowledge that US focus on the eights, the only 2 countries i mentioned.
My coaches have always talked about every inch of water we miss is an inch further we could have been. taking 250 strokes on a 2k in any boat adds up, and it really does make the difference between winning and losing. And any true rower is willing to do whatever it takes to get every inch. Rowing is amazing =) And as for this video being bullshit...i'd say get a life. And maybe try rowing and see that it is probably the hardest sport out there
I gotta say man I live in England and rowing is huge here, well compared to other countries.. But I have to say that Canadian eight in particular is truly inspirational (Y) Something you just don't see here.
Having done triathlon for several years before switching to rowing full time, I can say that they are both incredibly difficult, but rowing takes the cake as far as pain. Do i race every day in rowing? yes. workouts are conducted in an environment in which every boat is racing in every piece. Do i train 3+ hours a day? more. 2 rows plus a tech session a day, 6 days a week. ends up being 4 hours a day. try doing some research next time. you won't seem like such a douche
@bkdowney100 So having watched this conversation for some time and having seen what cactaylor4 looks like (you can see him if you click his name and go to his page, he has a golf swing video of himself), I have concluded that this kid is talking all this shit about rowing because he's not good at it himself. He looks like a shaved bird. Of course rowing isn't hard if you are weak as hell and can't/don't know how to pull hard. Not even worth it to argue with Pee Wee Herman.
@zackguida He's the one who started calling me names first. I really don't care what i triathlon feels like because i love rowing too much. The most pain i ever felt in my life was in rowing, I do cycle run and do all that stuff, but rowing is different. Thats all I'm going to say. Everyone has their own opinion and i respect everyone's decision. With that said i will leave him alone. I'm just saying, you don't go on youtube to watch a video about a sport just to say "This sport is better!"
At my school, rowing is big because were right on Lake Quinsigamond, but nobody on crew talks shit about the other sports. Its the other sports that talk shit about us, because they don't get it. The best player on our football team used to be on crew, and quit because he said it was too hard. He admits it. We have rowers who box, swim, basketball, soccer, tennis, ski- and they all agree. Rowing is the hardest fucking sport out there.
@mikew781 true dat same with my school some people say rowing is a pussy sport so i said okay wake up at 4:20 am and go to the docks and row with us so he did that and puked when he was done then we all said what is harder now football or rowing?

@soccergurll08 nah bro its all America..lol
absegamifrosh8 1 year ago
@absegamifrosh8 no way ;p btw Canada is America as well. The country that I think comes out with the best athletes in rowing it`s New Zealand and I am not from NZ.
hellerase 1 year ago
@hellerase well dude maybe for the 4man boats but they cant beat them in the 8man boats. no one cars about any other boats except 8's.. u base a team are 8man boats 4's quads doubles singles, are just the boats that are filled with the less experienced rowers
absegamifrosh8 1 year ago
@absegamifrosh8 im gonna guess your american.. other countries prioritise boats into what they think will get them a gold, do you think every puts an 8 as teh top boat and thats all that matters even if they have 4 guys at a higher standard than teh rest of the squad?(not likely but its an exxagerated example) eg GB their 8 this year was more or less a development boat with a few experienced and a few young guys in it, the top boat for them was the pair, not many countries prio the 8 actually,
srsly101 1 year ago
@srsly101 yea im American, i row in Highschool on the East side. Its all about the 8man boats where i row at. 4man boats truely dont get much over here. but if a Crew doesnt have enough guys to Fill a Competitve 8, 4 man is where you have to go. and i know some what but i truely dont read about this stuff about other countries like you do i guess.. good talk lol

Loving this video - nice to listen to on the way to training at 6 am! F"*cking love it!
jumpmaestro 1 year ago
My coaches have always talked about every inch of water we miss is an inch further we could have been. taking 250 strokes on a 2k in any boat adds up, and it really does make the difference between winning and losing. And any true rower is willing to do whatever it takes to get every inch. Rowing is amazing =) And as for this video being bullshit...i'd say get a life. And maybe try rowing and see that it is probably the hardest sport out there

Great video. I think I'll try and get myself back in shape to go to the Canadian Henley next year. Officially inspired!
marcusbarmeier 1 year ago
I gotta say man I live in England and rowing is huge here, well compared to other countries.. But I have to say that Canadian eight in particular is truly inspirational (Y) Something you just don't see here.

how about triathalons and rowing are both wicked intense, and we can all just agree that tennis is for pussies?
i've done both (admittadely i row mainly) and know they both bring a new meaning to pain.
mikew781 1 year ago
@mikew781 tennis is skillful but for dicks

@Sigmarian yeah, it takes intense reflexes, but im talking about physical exertion

@cactaylor4
Having done triathlon for several years before switching to rowing full time, I can say that they are both incredibly difficult, but rowing takes the cake as far as pain. Do i race every day in rowing? yes. workouts are conducted in an environment in which every boat is racing in every piece. Do i train 3+ hours a day? more. 2 rows plus a tech session a day, 6 days a week. ends up being 4 hours a day. try doing some research next time. you won't seem like such a douche
bkdowney100 1 year ago
@bkdowney100 So having watched this conversation for some time and having seen what cactaylor4 looks like (you can see him if you click his name and go to his page, he has a golf swing video of himself), I have concluded that this kid is talking all this shit about rowing because he's not good at it himself. He looks like a shaved bird. Of course rowing isn't hard if you are weak as hell and can't/don't know how to pull hard. Not even worth it to argue with Pee Wee Herman.

@TheGoaltender94 Stop being a jerk. I am behind @cactaylor all the way
zackguida 1 year ago
@zackguida He's the one who started calling me names first. I really don't care what i triathlon feels like because i love rowing too much. The most pain i ever felt in my life was in rowing, I do cycle run and do all that stuff, but rowing is different. Thats all I'm going to say. Everyone has their own opinion and i respect everyone's decision. With that said i will leave him alone. I'm just saying, you don't go on youtube to watch a video about a sport just to say "This sport is better!"

vivalasvegas7 1 year ago
At my school, rowing is big because were right on Lake Quinsigamond, but nobody on crew talks shit about the other sports. Its the other sports that talk shit about us, because they don't get it. The best player on our football team used to be on crew, and quit because he said it was too hard. He admits it. We have rowers who box, swim, basketball, soccer, tennis, ski- and they all agree. Rowing is the hardest fucking sport out there.
mikew781 1 year ago 5
@mikew781 true dat same with my school some people say rowing is a pussy sport so i said okay wake up at 4:20 am and go to the docks and row with us so he did that and puked when he was done then we all said what is harder now football or rowing?

I hate how people In my country always think that rowing is the same as canoe.
But we always keep referring to: If rowing was easy, it would've been called canoe (:
