How do you warm the water up to the right temperature? The fish I am going to get require 72 to 84 degrees F. How do I make the water I'm putting in and the water in the tank the same temperature?
Ur a horible person u have have have have to use RODI fiptered water if u want A salt water tank u idiot not just tap water. Thats why ur glass is covered with algea ur a fucking idiot
Nice tank . I have a 20 gallon long tank that I have my green spotted puffer in I have just about turned it to full salt water do you think I could put a clown in there
you have pretty cool videos, i would like you posted more, you have a very frugal, efficient and knowleagble way to setup and maintain your salt tanks.
hey im getting a 36 gallon freshwater started. ill be doing water changes by the gallon and im not sure on how much water conditioner you would put in a gallon.
i got a 5.5 saltwater tank,i'm a starter, check out my video and tell me whats right and what's wrong any advice woul be good to keep mine running.please check it out,or anybody watching this vid.
For such a small tank, I would recommend that you put less objects in the aquarium. All those objects are probably making a 5 gallon into a 3.5 gallon. And cleaning will be easier. I'm no expert though...
how often do you do a water change and over a golon is more then enough for a single fish you should do one every two weeks at about 3/4 of a gallon at a time
lol mines way eaiser since i have only simple fish rite now,(Damsel,Tomato Clown)and only one live rock :/,that ways only 15 pounds..but the Nitrate and PH,Amnnioua are good :). I like your clown,it looks cool.
How often are you doing water changes on this 5 gallon? I have the same size tank but, been thinking of turning it into a saltwater but I hear its not easy with a tank that small. I noticed you're not using a protein skimmer, what's your opinion on using one for a 5 gallon tank? Thanks.
ok can i ask a few questions about cleaning the tank and keeping saltwater tanks. Like tropical do you have to get it to the right temperature and do you have to de-chlorinate the water also do i need a protein skimmer for maybe a 15 gallon I might get a bigger 1. I just want to know because i would really like to set up 1 and i have already set up a successful tropical tank.
It would be a good idea to acheive the same tempurature that's in your tank when mixing up new salt water. Like freshwater, you have to de-chlorinate the water first for the salt water mix. It would be a good idea to get a small air driven protein skimmer for a tank of 15 gallon size. If you get a larger tank you can get a larger sized skimmer that is opporated by means of a powerhead.
thank you but i have just found a 55 gallon tank for a cheap price and i should have it by october so i will then post a video of it then and thanks a lot for your help and also i didnt know you had to acclimise corals so thank you for that to.
because waste gets accumulated faster so if u have a small aquarium the best thing t do is constant water changes specially if ure handling inverts. like shrimps because they are delicate to high nitrate levels so its beter if u do a water change!
still, if the system is set up properly, water changes are unnecesary.
now a system wiuth water changes will benefit enopurmouslyt from the trace element additions of nsw, or a good salt mix, however for those who have nutrient problems, they need not treaqt it with a water change, but lower the amount of organisms in the tank, remove the nitrate by increased biological filtration, or get better mechanical filtration
generally the new water should be a couple degrees warmer than ur tank water. that way not only will the solve dissolve better u wont risk having marine ich in ur tank since they to come from temperature fluctuations in ur tank. Its best to have water mixed a ready and have it in a spare tank with a power head and heater. U should have the water wait 24 hrs before adding it to tank.
i forgot to imply that offcourse it needs to be the same but u must remmeber to put a very slightly lower salinity into water cuz there is still salt in tank just evaporated
no. your supposed to top off daily with FRESHWATER (no salt) to keep the salinity constant. Then, during water change add SAME salinity SAME temp saltwater.
Hi bjoudman i think that you should because the saltwater's salinity can be affected by water temp depending on how much you are adding if like this video you are only changing small amounts of water i wouldnt worry to much but for say 20 gallon water change i would heat the water and mabye use a powerhead to give the water flow as to dissolve the salt better
i see that you dont have a protein skimmer. Do you need one? because i am going to be setting up my 29 gallon as a marine tank and alot of videos on youtube have people with power heads, protein skimmers, and special light so if you could tell me if i need a protein skinner, special filter, pump heads just stuff like that. that would be great
u should have a skimmer. If you dont have much fish but have corals in a small 20 gallon u dont need a skimmer. I have friends running 2 aquaclears in their tanks. No skimmer just weekly water changes
Hey, you are dumping fresh tap water into your tank without using anything to take out the metals. Adding the salt works ok but will increase your ph in your tank. You should try using Prime by Seachem. It removes all the cholrine, chloramine, ammonia & detoxifies nitrite & nitrate which you are throwing in to your tank.
Hi i have a couple of fresh water tanks which seem to be running fine bar one my smallest. I always test my water before addid it to make sure it ph 7.0 but one day i cleaned the filter which is a fluval 4 plus in water taken from the tank and now my ph is 7.8 even though i do regular water changes at ph 7.0 why is this happening? i clean my external filters this way and there fine.
well since its such a small tank its going to go through a small cycle. i would recomend doing a 1 drinking cup water change every 2-3 days untill conditions are stable. be sure to test the water for nitrates, nitrites, ammonia and ph.
Did you know fish can breath better at a reading of .o23
My royal grammer was propper stressed when I got him home and floted the bag on the top. \the shop had .025 and i slowly added shotglasses of my .023 to the bag every 10 mins taking a shotglass out at the some time.(not into the tank)... he calmed right down. also this is a fact im not making it up.
you can also use stress zyme.. its a slime that fish have and they lose it when stressed.. add 2 trops of that into the bag to top him up.
yes that was good information for the beginer aquariest. fish are safe with salinity levels reading any where from 1.020-1.026 anythng higher or lower can be risky
this are some nice tips..for people..who want to start out..we had a saltwater tank..and we spent so much money on it..and we thought that they would be the same as fresh water fish..and we took out all the water and put new salt water in..and one by one..they ended up dying..but were thinkin to put another one..but to start small..and then go big..when we know how to take care of them..but thanks so much.for the tips..there really helpful

seems odly wasteful
ctenophor 2 years ago
you dont really have to lol... actually it takes away from your biological filtration
7milewest 2 years ago
that is exactly what i thought.
i don't actualy do water changes myself, for that reason,
but the way that he does water changes, takes 2 gallons out, when only 1.5 gallons are needed.
its wasteful.
and look at all the diatoms in his tank, he obviously has nutrient problems, and look at all the waste he pulls up from the bottom, and the rocks.
feeds way toooo much.
and it appears that he is using gravel.
but of course, he is the one who feels that he is knowledgable enough to
ctenophor 2 years ago
