Richter got beat up badly at the end of his career by Sanipass. He also lost to Tim Hunter and Basil McRae in his final 2 seasons. Almost every fighter becomes a punching bag near the end of his career.
While O`Reilly was being a so called punching bag.He was making opponents pay big time while he was firing his left into there helmets where he was dense enough not to wear.Beating Gillies two out of five.Fighting Williams,Wilson,Bridgemen,Nilan many others dishing out just as much as he took.Making some of them look like punching bags.
Ya he did. There was a fight with Richter and some tough guy from the Leafs and Richter just owned him. Dave also pounded Joey Kocur so his beatings were dished out to players of all ages.
He beat EVERYONE who WAS NOT a heavy weight, most opponents were middleweights or 2nd tier fighters. He never fought most of the other top heavies in the mid-1980s. Missing from his fight card are the true heavyweights like Dave Brown, Behn Wilson, Semenko, Fotiu, Nilan, Playfair, Kyte, Jay Miller, Stanley, Kordic, Ewen, Donnelly. Only 3 top heavies on his card: fought rookie Probert to a draw. Brief wrestling match with McSorley. Lost to Tim Hunter.
Fotiu? I saw him get beat severely by Jack Carlson twice in a week. He looked scary but that was about it. People shouldn't be impressed because he beat a 19 year old Behn Wilson.
Gord Donnelly? He was good for ripping your helmet off and hitting you on top of the head. Actually...I like Gord. He gave me one of his Nordique jerseys way back when. Damn...I'm old.
Behn Wilson please?? Cementhead tough?? those 2 comments are funny because you should probably watch both Semeko and Nilan saying please as Behn Wilson handed them their asses
Playfair, Wilson, Brown, Gillies, Probert are the top 5 of that period -- and there's no question Richter is right there with all of them. Just didn't fight as often
@justice008a Richter's reign as a top 5 fighter was too short, sort of like Troy Crowder's was a few years later. 2 or 3 seasons of destroying almost every opponent, then fading away.
@lakeerie90s but it sure was a good time while it lasted. Richter's loss to McRae was almost inexplicable; only reason I can think of is he wanted to give the Minnesota fans something to cheer about so he mailed it in. It was that bad
Fotiu fought Carlson twice in the same game in a WHA. There's no footage of the fight; just audio and players who were there stated that after Carlson sucker punched Fotiu the fight was pretty even. I'll take Walton's word over yours. I seriously doubt you were there.
Putting down Wilson and Miller and elevating Nilan is just more stupidity on your part.
You doubt I was there? I went to pretty much every Minnesota Fighting Saints game there was. Ask me anything you want. Why would you doubt me? Some little kid who HEARD what his buddies dad told him?
I'll take what I saw over the word of your little butt buddy.
Only stupidity is your part for listening to your drunken dad and his friends.
Walton isn't my dad and Walton's word trumps some stranger on the internet. And yes you're a liar and idiot for thinking others wouldn't catch on. Fotiu and Carlson only fought in one playoff game in '75 on the Whaler's home ice. That's it. No other fights. Their WHA fight cards are online, jack ass. What does it matter if you went to every Saint's game if they never fought again? Have some dignity.
Funny how everybody was so impressed with Richter. Sure he was tough but this was 1 yr. before O'reilly retired. You all would be just as impressed if a guy in a wheelchair was beaten up as well. Pathetic!! O'reilly and his left hand back in the 70's would have dropped this guy quick.
notice all the Bruins rushing in at the end, presumably trying to root through O'Reilly's pockets because it appears he's just been killed. Damn looters anyway. It's a wonder O'Reilly could talk later in life with some of the fist-feedings he took from Holmgren, Behn Wilson, and Richter here
Thats true.O`Reilly was past his prime but he continued to be a warrior even through his coaching years. The fight with Tim Hunter and Val James. You can tell that the age caught up with him physically but the heart stayed the same.
Richters show here, CLEAR WIN goes to him as he landed much more and tied up well his opponent, masters show .
