I don't think I've ever seen anyone grab anybody like that. Did your attacker pick the grip to help you demonstrate the move by already having his elbow turned over? Also, why turn your back to the attacker? It looks like you are opening yourself up to a counter if you try restrain/submit and he falls to the ground faster than you follow him.
you think hes gonna stand there and let you apply that pressure? its not even karate its so bad, if i did this in sparring id be on my back the second i tried it, its movie bullshit
@blackgatedef3 Yea they took it from judo. Judo guys usually use this from a lapel grip break; I don't know if its still legal in judo competitions though.
Yes. I know we haven't seen eye to eye on this issue but I asked Keith Owen about the 2 ways we do it. His response "Both are legit...what ever works for you Ari." In my test, I did it both ways for the record. I got my Blue under Keith this weekend.
Train well bro...train well! Say hello to my good friend Randy at Gracie HQ!
props ari, just wear the blue belt when teaching bjj, nothing wrong with that. you going to get more respect being up front from bjj community.good jod ari
great vid mate, respect too ya, we learn the same move in Karate (very very similar), its a handy move to know, but being a lowly ranked yellow belt im not really equiped at this stage to deal with the "aftermath" of having a big p!ssed off idiot with a broken arm and 20 mates lol
anyway respect to you and bjj, id like to learn a few more joint locks and hey maby you might see me in a bjj gi in future (@ 6ft9 ground work isnt really my thing though)
when i said something the 1s time about your move, you said talk to the gracies about it.now that the gracie's dont teach it that way,you come back with something else.your weak .go earn a belt before you teach from a book
OK Kid... Ever hear the quote "don't believe the hype?" You haven't even bothered to do any research about the JJBC at all. What you just wrote was libel, making false statements. LOOK at the JJBC site and you'll see that it pre dates me by several years. Did I also create the instructors and their schools? How do you account that the founding members have been training for years? Be a free thinker bro. Let me know if you want to retract your statement above?
ari on your cross choke vid bjj mount, you wear a black belt, but your just a white belt in bjj.dont you think thats misleading? who taught you that tech?thats the worst i ever seen
I don't think the poster of this video is the person teaching the technique. I asked for his full name and his information be he didn't respond. I NEVER had a problem with the video or this technique. I don't know the person at all. I also respect the Gracie's and what they do tremendously. Typical for things to get blown out of proportion on you tube comments.I may get owned...that's cool but we can learn from everyone. Not looking to challenge...train well, train safe.
The standing arm bar is not just a BJJ move. Any martial artist can tell you that. I also teach Japanese Jujutsu, which I am a black belt in. I am a purple belt under Eddie and train with Keith. Good luck in your training ;-)
My absolute favorite armlock! You can also drag your opponent to the ground and combine it with a sitout to finish.
