  • too bad for the audio quality...

  • She is a wet dream of every coloratura that exist on this Earth; not liking her means those 3 people have no ears or they think they have ears, but those are amputated organs no one needs!

This only can make a listener speechless!

  • Theres no way! This can't be real!! :O ??????

  • I think shes Ricardo Mutis Nightmare...

    Its funny- and impressing

  • I often prefer renditions in which the artist successfully expresses him/herself through singing and doesn't lose sight of the libretto, but, Wow! who doesn't enjoy such spectacular vocal fireworks?!

  • Un usignolo!

  • I love this performance. If this does not make you smile- you need professional care.

  • The secret of great singing is spontaneity which is non-existent today on any operatic stage. Galvany carried it to extremes, nevertheless, she surpasses all the sopranos on the professional stage today

  • apart from alle the reactions abt her astonishing voice, isn't it also peculiar that nobody knows if she died in 1918 or in 1949 ??? That puzzles me even more!

  • @jcriedijk She died in 1927 Join in to Maria Galvany facebook group !

  • Grandios the high and coloratur, the best I had heard all times. She belongs in the golden age of the gigantvoices like Tetrazzini, Dal Monte etc. Absolutly the top a men could sing. A voice for the heaven !

  • She was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • In spite of sometimes excessive ornamentation, she's still terrific!!

  • What do you mean "in spite of"? That's the whole point! LOL this is virtuosismo to the extreme, but always perfectly executed and in balance. 796824 is exactly right.

  • They knew how to sing in the Golden age

    They do not today

  • This record NOT Fonotipia, but G.&T. 053165 (mx.1399 1/2 c). Maria Galvany make records for Huges & Acosta cylinders, Puerto & Novella cylinders, G & T, Pathe freres (both: cylinders & disc form) and Edison cylinders. She not made records for Fonotipia.

  • The somewhat tasteless oramentation can distract from the incredible vocalism we hear here. Galvany was beyond virtuoistic and seemed to have a very solid technique aside from her interesting liberties.

  • Oh my god... This is amazing! How can reaching such high notes be possible at all? O_o My throat hurts when I hear it.

    Absolutely exceptional possibilities O_o

  • ahahahaah i topini di cenerentola mentre le fanno il vestito x il ballo!!!! ahahahaha

  • Ma è veramente possibile fare queste cose?

  • outstanding! a miracle! ginocchio!

  • This recording may be a camp classic, but Galvany, notwithstanding her insane picchetati and very flat high E-flat here, was a good singer in a good day. She left some very good records.

  • @AulicExclusiva

    This is Camp Brilliant Delight.

    Regards-John.

  • coloratura on crack

  • Anyone knows where to get a decent quality mp3 of this recording?

  • Returned for another hearing. FIVE STARS!

  • You mean "deaf to the fact..." Seriously though, I am neither blind nor deaf, and perhaps was too harsh in my criticism of Galvany's exuberant talent. I agree it is a remarkable recording, though, on balance, Galvany is not one of my favorite singers compared to other old-timers such as Galli-Curci, Tetrazzini, Melba, Sembrich, etc. I've also been listening to early singers for many years. I wonder whether you have any Alice Verlet recordings in your collection.

  • I've posted a number of Galvany's recordings but not this one, since you already have it available. I've been a coloratura soprano record collector since age 9, and without a second's hesitation, I can say that this is my number one favorite of my 12,500 discs and cylinders. THANK YOU for posting this. I never tire of hearing it.

  • This is so full of joy. Helps on a depressing day. Like it or not musically what she does is vocally phenomenal.

  • There is nobody on the face of the earth who can duplicate these vocal pyrotechnics! Like Tetrazzini, she sang joyously! A bunch of 12-in. Edison Diamond Disc record-masters sit in storage that were never issued! She was a slip of a girl with a short career. Her life was difficult as time went on.

  • What impresses me is the power of her low register.

  • amazing what voices could do back in those days...

  • she´s natalie dessay´s wet dream

  • @niklausse Hahahhahah LOL

  • Wonderful, I so love this woman. Please make a video with her amazing rendition of Mozart's Der Holle Rache.

  • I remember first hearing this weird recording about 40 years ago. I thought then it was mildly entertaining and at times amusing, but no more than a display of virtuosity sounding like a caricature of a coloratura soprano. I have not changed my opinion.

  • Caricature as you want, you still have to be able to sing those evil notes!!!

And you have to think that the recording is probably not relevant of how it really sounded.

It's, I think, impossible today to have a voice so natural and focussed. I wish I could have that, even for just an hour...

  • This is a REMARKABLE recording. Those who take exception to the quality of her ultra- high register are blind to the fact that most of Galvany's performances date from the dawn of recorded sound. Dazzling stacatti! If only she had remained in circulation until the microphone era, circa 1925.

  • freespiritQC

Graet point. If she sang TODAY and wanted to, she could have toned things down a bit. No one singing today ,even if they wanted to, could heat things up like Galvany. This is one of my favorite recordings of anything.

    Regards-John

  • because they cant do what they did in the past, they are just managing to sing the notes!

  • wow the stacatti im so impressed that how the women voice

can make so beautiful sound s

    like birds
