sounds like some variable voltage? I have a Casio somewhere that went through a lot of those same sounds once when the batteries got low.

I opened mine up this morning and there's a chip under some metal housing that gives you so many bends.

At the moment, just a couple of switches which freeze and crash the whole system out. it does some nice glitchy ambient pads when you get it right though :)
