As an American, I say that we need to let this alone. We don't have to get involved in every rebellion/insurgency. Russia and Syria are old allies and if Russian diplomats are on the ground wanting to stop the violence and bring both sides to the table, I don't see why the US should get involved other than its own bias against Assad. The Syrian people want Assad gone. The US should step back and allow the people to do what they will. We don't need to get involved.

I would love for the US to step aside and let the Russians take care of this, but the fear is that Putin may be more concerned with maintaining good relations with Syria than trying to restore order. I have no doubt Putin wants an end to the chaos, but I'm pretty sure he's not willing to get involved militarily, since that could be costly.
