My thoughts: If they lose your luggage just buy your clothes at the destination! If you are only going for a few days and say there's no point, Well then you only need to buy a few things!

Just a reminder pack the liquids where you can get to it easily through security. You do not want to lose time digging for items that they have to search anyways. For a weekend a laptop, charger, phone charger, toiletries, two outfits and flip flops can easily fit in a decent size suitcase. This is a typical setup for the weekend and during my military travel through states it was a breeze.
