  • Did the amp whack out at that one part in the beginning?

  • I hate to be the guy who does this, but...Fallout: New Vegas, anybody? And listen guys, so what if I found out about Bert through a video game? He's still getting more of the attention he deserves.

  • Typical 80's the toms on that drum kit are way too high :P

  • Always wanted to play this tune all my life might get round to it yet lol yes Uncle Bert taught me to boogie too.

  • I grew up with bert weedon guitar music brilliant solo bert is now 91 years young i am his bigist fan for a lot of years now rock on Bert

  • I think I'm going to learn guitar. I've been thinking of it for a while, but this has certainly boosted it along. What a legend.

  • @Fertro Do it. It's fun.

  • Damn! First time i've heard this guy. simply amazing. He should rock with chuck berry before they eventually kick the bucket. they might die sooner or later, but the music will live on

  • vonkalsson is a stupid jealous idiot. He just wishes he could be nearly as good as Bert.

  • Yes of course I has the play in a day book - I even had a guild guitar - lets not get into echo chambers :-) Thanks BERT - You Rock!

  • greatest guitarist ever, sure there are technically (meaning technique, not the other meaning) better players but i personally believe he did more for music than hendrix or anyone else you care to mention, without him rock music would never have evolved the way it did and hendrix would probably just have been any other guy

  • @hXc232 Yep! I'm with you on that, but Les Paul and Lonnie Donegan must also share the same credit.

  • not being funny here but bert seemed good at just the rockabilly stuff

thats all you ever hear if youve heard it once youve herd it over and over

chet atkins is the master not bert wedon anyday

  • burt weedon rocks

  • George Harrison played this song as an audition for "The Quarrymen" that was afterwards The Beatles

  • Without Bert British rock and roll would never had ruled the sixties like it did.!

  • Wonderful clip. I enjoyed the Ted`s giving the Jive an airing.

Especially how Mr Weedon paid tribute to the Rock`n`Roll era, with a couple of Haley licks. Excellent !

What a bloke. What a performer. What a Guitar !

  • Bert Weedon was the British "Les Paul"... the first real guitar hero in Britain.

While not as well known here in the states (truly an injustice to his talent and historical importance), those of us guitarists who are true students of the electric guitar and it's pioneers, recognize his contributions and absolutely love his style, versatility and tone.

would like to see more of his back catalogue available for purchase.

    A true electric guitar genius.

  • one of the original guitar heroes,

  • Super guy, super guitarist too. Taught me a lot when he visited the Kemble-Yamaha facility at Bletchley in the '70s to collect a new guitar and amp.

He didn't just inspire the Shadows - he did the session work for them in the early days - ask Hank!

And he was born in 1920, maikng him 62 in 1982. Saw him at a gig several years later, still rocking! Played a great 1 hour solo set for charity.

    Respect.

  • If ever ive regretted anything it was giving away a triple album of bert weedons,im 41 and i learned with his play in a day book when i was 12 on my dads 12 string jumbo! ha ha can you imagine it! fantastic man!

  • Look at this guy's face, , He is LOVING what he is doing! We should all envy the man that receives so much joy from his passion. Thanks Bert, you got me started on a 30 year career with your instruction books, You did good.

  • Well this guy is a legand. I remember the guitar lessons at teatime. I was to young to play then just by a couple of years Hank and the Shadows were the guys who started me. New guys Hendrix and loads more took the guitar to another level now its HARD!! Bert we still love you

  • condoned Hank for the use of the tremelo arm what did he use the one under his playing hand

  • The only song I know yet of Bert, I know he was and still is a big influence on electric guitar players like The Shadows. -> Shadoogie.

And in Holland where I live, Rene & The Alligators made a cover of it called Alligator Boogie. I also recommend that song. Nice video, great performance. thanks for posting.

  • He's good, he's keeping that up for 4/5 odd minutes, he must've been 60 odd when recording this, thats pretty good!

I sent this link to Bert and Maggie the other day, he phoned me this afternoon asking if there was any way he could get a copy of it on dvd or vhs as he hasn't seen it before? please get in touch, thanks.

  • hi rockinkb, this clip is unable to watch, do you think you can put it out again so I can hear Bert play, it would be nice I think, thanks a lot, caro

  • the story goes that when Del Shannon was first introduced to Bert, Shannon didn't know who he was and when told Bert's name he was flabbergasted because Shannon's middle name is Weedon and his father's name was Bert.

This is the first I've heard Bert Weeden play so thanks and hats off to rockinkb... and to Bert Weedwon :)
