I think she was smart enough to branch out. If she was still doing Hip hop she would have been under-appreciated like most true hip hop artist. She didn't sellout she showed more facets of her talent.

You know, it's amazing, I remember the complaint was that the music industry didn't take hip hop seriously, but when they start taking it seriously, we bitch about it? I remember going to hip hop shows at community centers n shit. That's how small it was. Plus know your hip hop history. At this time hip hop and house acts often shared the same billing. MC Lyte, Steady B, EPMD, and others ALL put house tracks on their albums around this time. QL was actually LATE doing it.
