I was looking forward to seeing this band so much, but shit what a let down on the day, biggest load of tosh I have ever seen, typical posing yank band really!
I WAS THERE IN 1984 best line up ever -motley crue-gary moore-accept-ozzy ozbourne (with jake lee) van halen who were amazing & headline was ac/dc -NOW THATS WHEN MUSIC WAS MUSIC-£15 THAT LOT COST LOL!!!!
The heckling bit was staged just so Dave could use the "I'm gonna f&^k your girlfriend" line. Sometimes the roadies would squirt water, throw food on stage, etc...all "part of the show".
According to their long time photographer; that was a set piece of their show, he said it was someone in the crew who would throw a bottle on stage at a pre-set time, so DLR could say that. Nothing about their show was ever left to chance, it was all staged.
@eddiehalenvan NOOOOO they were not clean, not by a long shot. Dave is a pretty big pot smoker for one thing (read his book) and Valerie Bertinelli admitted doing lots of blow with Eddie back in the day and engaging in some multi partner lovin' with him.
@Jadeepops1 To my knowledge there weren't any rules governing the heavyness of songs played at Monsters of Rock. The overall package of Van Halen was hard rock, and that was enough!
@Jadeepops1 No, but many of their songs are. Heard Van Halen I? Fair Warning? Women and Children First? Plenty of hard rock songs I think you'll find!
@Lerlialen1 im not laughin by those numbers EH... IM just suprised how many who doesnt know ReAl music. I gotta admit Acdc's got some good songs but. But I find it very boring when Malcom young And Angus is firing through the same chord system D, E C and the pretty much soundalike solo's album after album. With ===VH=== you get something new and extraordinary with every album.
@eddiehalenvan It's a bit hypocritical to try and say VH is real music and insinuating ACDC's music is not don't you think?
Why do ACDC need to change their style of music when it's obvious that their fans don't want them to by their ongoing success? They still sell records, they still sell out stadiums today so theres no need to. They are rock n roll, not pop n roll or anything else like that.
They don't need to conform with the times because no matter what they play it's pure gold.
@eddiehalenvan Anyway, I happen to like this song but this is not rock n roll. This is pop rock. It's more mainstream which is something ACDC will never do.
One of the best put-downs I've ever heard was DLR at this gig.Someone threw a lump of pizza at him,so he stopped the band playing whatever it was they had just started playing,and he turned to the audience and said - 'Dont nobody be throwing no shit on stage.But that's ok - I know who threw it,and after the show,pal,I'm gonna fuck your girlfriend! Diamond Dave,eh? What a smoothie....
@captainsurfcaster My Dad attended over 10 VH concerts, 4 Dave concerts 5 Sammy concerts. He saw them with Dave During the Fair Warning, Diver Down, and 2 times 1984 tours. He remembers the 1982 concert like it was yesterday! I belive sombody threw a cherry bomb on stage and it nearly exploded in David lee roth's face and he did the famous "Im gonna fuck your girlfriend, pal!" line. Classic.
@captainsurfcaster Well I dont think VH would have made it big without DLR. Do you know that he failed the audition for VH at the first attempt? Eddie was the singer and he wanted more of a Paul Rodgers type. Fab - without EVH and DLR we would have never seen rock music as it is today
I think you're right about Daves' influence. I first saw VH when they first came to U.K. Saw them 2 nights in a row supporting Black Sabbath at Hammersmith. They are still the only support band I've ever seen that had the audience out of their seats and down the front, like they were the headliners. V.H. were awesome, even tho' Daves gobbing-off was grew irritating very quickly (to me, at least - everyone else loved it), BUT - what a front-man...
@puppi3000 I'm saying that I think that "collective" audience clapping to the beat of songs is corny. And no one said that people, the audience, or an individual cannot or should not clap at concerts in general.
@cvjucla3 Me either. It's like crowds of people just can't resist clapping along with, and I use the term "along with" loosely, the beat of whatever in the hell is taking place. It drives me fucking insane. I've seen many performers fuck up as a direct result of people clapping along.
I played eruption at my school talent show in front of 2500 people who tried clapping along. There isn't even a pattern to follow! I paused to say knock it the fuck off, and ended up getting suspended for it.

Good pop song ,not heavy enough too grace the stage at Donington .
Maybe that,s why AC/DC were the headliners .

@eddiehalenvan Van Halen=over 80 million albums sold
ACDC=over 200 million albums sold
"Back in Black" is the highest selling album by a band and the second highest album in history behind Michael Jackson's 'Thriller'.
"Black Ice" went to number 1 in 29 countries in 2008. That is on sales instore alone as they don't sell their music digitally to itunes.
How about you laugh at those numbers eh?
