I don't know if anybody did recognize that the musicians that are playing behind this groove track is actually Rose Royce...before "Car Wash" took off.
@MikeStone05 You are correct. Rose Royce was the backing band for the undisputed Truth's two albums, "Higher Than High" and "Methond To the Madness". You can even almost think that these are Rose Royce's songs?
@samjabo Only the horn section from Rose Royce is playing on this track. Johnny McGhee is on guitar, Norman Zeller on rhythm, Butch Azevedo on drums and I'm playing bass. I layed 3 basslines on
Myke, whether it is you, or Lequeint from Rose Royce, I have to say that both of your bass playing contribution to these songs is the thing that make people hear them again and again and never get fed up.
Just a bit of trivia: For those of you who don't already know; The Undisputed Truth was the FIRST group the record "Papa Was A Rolling Stone"; their version preceded the Temptations' by about 4 or 5 months. TUT's rendition of "Papa.." is well worth checking out. If I had a way of uploading it, I would.
My apologies Ms. McDonald- I thought it was Taka Boom who sang with Undisputed Truth on this song. But you've got to admit that Chaka Khan does sound like you :)
Taka Was a vocalist for TUT but she wasn't the only one. She left. You can tell the female voice by the lead. Taka sounds a lot like chaka. Vee has a crisper, purer tone.
A Motown legend Norman Whitfield died today at 3:15 pacific. A volatile brother, but a definite master craftsman. Norman put a ton of performers on the map with his hit songwriting. The Temps, Gladys & the Pips, Marvin Gaye, Rose Royce, Rare Earth...the list is endless. RIP Norman
This is incredible to watch and listen to. The musicians are Johnny McGhee (LTD, The Stairsteps), Butch Azevedo on drums, Norman Zeller on 2nd guitar and me Myke Julius on bass. Joe Pep lead vocals Dhaak, Big and Lil Ty(Tyrone) and Vee. Produced by Norman Whitfield. This was recorded at MoWest studio in LA. The spirit and energy we had was incredible. I leave U w/ a line from a song we cut called "Poontang" "I use 2 hate it 'til I ate it I ain't talkinf 'bout tuna fish y'all."
