Thanks a bunch for posting the answer to the puzzle of how to break open the Z22 case. Your series of pictures was just what I needed. Took me 15 minutes and the hardest part was to un-stick the old battery. (Maybe warming the Palm in the sun would have helped.) Needed a hot iron to melt the existing solder. Used a small dab of flux and the new leads slipped right in. Hoping to get another three years out of this trusty old PDA.
Thank you for your video. Seeing the video gave me the confidence to use the extreme pressure to pry apart the case.
My z22 died because I used a metal replacement stylus. The stylus is not protected from the circuit board. The stylus must have shorted out the battery because the stylus goes right over the battery contacts. Lucky it didn't blow up in my pants.
My palm had tamperproof screws at the top and after borrowing my husbands it came out like a charm. The battery was glued down top and bottom and was tough to remove. After installing new battery it didn't want to go back together. After taking it apart I noticed the battery was in the way a little. Adjusted one more time and it snapped back together ealily. Now charging, we will see. Thanks again.
I did this some time ago. I don't recall marring the unit to a point where it bothered me. Just be gentle. You might contact coretticonfetti for an opinion.............f
Hi there, I have to change the digitizer. Did you manage to remove the plastic lid at 00:17 without marring the casing or the lid itself ? Thanks for your video!
I finally got around to putting the new battery in. (took a weekend away from home with totally dead battery to give me the guts to put the one you sent in). So it has been in there for a week now and is holding charge and doing quite well so far. Crossing my fingers it keeps up.
Thanks so much for the battery and the video to help me figure it all out!
are you sure it was the soldering that killed it? I am tempted to try this although there is a guy on Ebay who will diagnose for six bucks... not sure how much to replace the battery yet.
I don't know what killed it. It quit working shortly after messing with it. Just be careful and use a very small soldering iron. There is nothing to loose. I'll put in the mail.
Thanks for the offer but I bought a battery yesterday. The Z22 is my wife's. She lives and dies with it. I bought her a back up Z22 last year just in case. Well the old one finally went down due to battery. She is using the back up now but I wanted to see if I could replace the battery in the other unit. We will see what happens...

@sg489 Yes. I used a very small iron with a device that had holding clips on each end with a magnifying glass in the center.......f

My Palm died 2 weeks after the battery transplant. Be careful when soldering. You are welcome to my replacement battery.
