How do you MAKE SURE that you mix bar on bar? I think I'm sometimes 1 bar off but it's hard to tell, and once you cue up the record and prepare for the mix you're pretty much committed to mixing there - no time to fix. I guess you can push or drag the record 1 bar backwards or forwards - but usually I'm so nervous and concentrating so hard that I don't want to change anything when I get to that point.
I have what I think is a pretty good prog mix - let me know if you want to listen!
Hey Ellaskins, as always you're doing a great job with your videos. On thing though, I can't help to notice that you haven't done anything on reggae in any of your videos yet. Could be nice if you did.
Agreed, it's a standard, we're getting there, beats, bars, phrases sorted, just sort out the counting and he's nailed it! Personally I count: Dog cat hamster toad, Cat cat hamster toad, Hamster cat hamster toad, Toad cat Hamster toad. Sorry I mean Dog cat hamster toad, Goldfish cat Gerbil toad... No I mean Dogfish iPod Numark ... darn it. iDog cat... I give up !
i don't agree and diss agree, at the end of the day it's down to the indevidual, and after a while you will not even count. As you get used to the beats and structure as daft as it sounds you will instinctivly know where you are in relation to bars/phrases, goldfish, cats and dogs, lol you know what i mean! thanks groovindj!!
Nice hat :) Again a bit difficult track but that prolly was intention too, especially on the phrases part. It's great that you how this on so many different types of music.
1 bar = 4 beats
1 phrase = 8 bars = 32 beats
Where did you get that 1 phrase is 4 bars or 16 beats?

I would suggest counting ONE 2,3,4, TWO 2,3,4,THREE 2,3,4.
Using a 1 on the 2nd beat of the bar, and a 2 on the third etc. will probably only add to the confusion for newbies.
